Looks like we have missed out on Elliot Embleton who is set to move elsewhere.

Seems he wasn't good enough for Sunderland so should we care about this?

Does anyone actually think there’s any point in us spending any money this window? Last relegation season the January window was a shitshow and we’re still paying for it now.

Trim the squad, save the money for the summer and give us a chance to compete within PSR if we do come back up by keeping our outgoings down.

It depends who is available.  Juric needs certain players we don’t have for his system to work.

Not any that have been publicly announced. I'd be surprised if he didn't have something in it to give him an easy route out as he is far to good for a season in the Championship.

Easy route out if someone is willing to pay top money and top wages to him.

He is decent, but there wasn’t a queue of clubs we had to beat for his signature.

Can he? He is exciting, can dribble and beat two or three players, but he isn’t that dangerous in front of goal, and regularly fails to deliver a critical assist. He is hopeless defending, is very one footed and his set pieces are currently poor. Sure, he gets the crowd on their feet and is exciting, but does he have the potential for an all round game, or is he a latter day MLT?

Clearly clubs will see this and more and then decide if the potential is there. There will be suitors, and just maybe we need to cash in whilst we can.

Up there with the worst posts ever on this forum.  And I should know, a lot of them are mine.

There are some odd takes on this forum at the moment.

We have people trying to create this angle of the two best players we have, Fernandes and Dibling, not being 'that good'. It won't be hard to get rid and cash in if that's what some want, as there will be loads and loads of interest, so that probably means they are quite good.

Meanwhile we will get to continue to enjoy BBD, Sulemana, Fraser, Stephens and co.

I'd be amazed if he stayed even if we had the miracle of avoiding relegation. He will be on the radar of the elite clubs this summer. The extra year trigger to 2027 allows Saints to negotiate a higher price.

I won't be at all surprised if he leaves, but given his issues at Chelsea and the fact he's still learning his trade, I don't think it would be crazy if he stays and signs an extension

I'm still surprised he signed for us.

He could have all the big sides after him in the summer.

I think more likely he goes to a mid level Prem team. Goalkeepers don't seem to have the mobility that outfield players do - I can remember Jaaskelainan getting rave reviews season after season but still staying at Bolton. And there are one or two questions about Ramsdale away from his shot stopping

Harsh on Forster. It was the passing back that made him look like a lump the other week! 🙂

There are indeed. "Any regrets?" and "Are you following health and safety with all the lifting out the net you're doing?" come to mind. 🙂

Sky Sports News, have said we want a striker, Winger and a DM - they suggested we could recall Charles and send back Lesley.

Had it not been for the second sentence, that could have been a news item from any of the last 10 transfer windows. 🙂

Don't see what good it would do Charles to come back now into a disfunctioning side. He's improving playing under Rohl at Wednesday and they're doing well.

Ugochukwu is showing he's not a bad player. Personally I'd keep things how they are.

I read on one of the local news sites up here that Wednesday were confident of loaning him, and I took from that that we might recall Charles in exchange. Not to be then.

TBH I wouldn't really want that either. It sounds like Shea is developing well at a level and club which suits him. I don't think it'd really benefit either him or us, coming back here into this farce of a team.

And a couple of CBs and a couple of attacking players, maybe some full backs, CMs would be useful too 😁

Seems we are rumoured to be interested in Real Betis star Sergi Altimiri at 33 million Euros 🙂 Looks very decent and is 6'2 but not sure we'd pay such big bucks or that he'd want to come to a club which is certain to be relegated. One other Premier League club showing interest which I think is Ipswich. Click bait for sure.

33 million EUROs is the release clause. That doesn't mean that is how much he'd cost. Every player in La Liga has to have a release clause in their contract as part of league rules.

Christ, the guy is absolutely done, physically with professional football. I don’t care about his touch and ability, he jogs around for half an hour a month, then gets injured. His contribution in half a season has been one decent assist against Ipswich. I don’t know when we started aiming so low as a club and a fan base that we started thinking this warranted a new contract.

I'm not sure you're seeing what I am. He plays like a manager/coach, and we'll need more of that next season with what will probably be a more junior team.

He's vital behind the scenes too, and my understanding is that he has held the dressing room together this season.

He's staying, and I'm pretty sure that once he's finished playing, he'll move into a coaching role in some capacity.

I can't imagine there's anything in that! We're down, and no big money signing would come in knowing that.

Pleased for him, an upgrade in terms of club and some normality to get away from the sheer dysfunction of SR-run SFC.

That is a reasonable point of view. However, if he came to us he becomes a Premier League player, which is a big thing. If he scores a couple of goals then he can get a dream move to the likes of Everton.

He's only played about 30 games in the top division and his last transfer (August '23) was two million euros.

He's not going for ten times that this January.

We're the joint worst team in PL history. There is absolutely nothing about this squad which is in any way 'vital'. Every other club in the country seems to be performing better than Saints, relatively speaking, without whatever Adam Lallana brings to the dressing room. Being an experienced pro and a 'good lad in the dressing room' isn't some sort of super power. There are plenty of players out there who can bring a moderate amount of leadership AND contribute to the team on the field.

Indeed there are, but there aren't many who can bring loads of it. Lallana does.

As for the rest, the performance of the team and the ability of the management/coaching team ain't on Lallana! That's on your boy RM who was kept on far too long.

Each to their own. If we're looking for leaders and characters in the squad to get promoted, I'll take Hammond, Chaplow and Hooiveld any day over a 37 year old with no legs.

Suspect that's true but Goslkeeoers can afford to play the long game. He can't keep bouncing from one club to another, he's had way too much experience of relegation as it is.

If he is happy with his mates he may well be tempted to stay tge extra year.

As always it depends on who is prepared to stump up the cash.

You do not need to pay the release clause to sign a player. Clubs can accept below the clause fee. There are players with 1 billion EURO release fees, you do not need to spend a billion to sign them.

Does feel like we are going to spend big on a striker with exit terms if we go down. Ferguson rumours still swirling. (Loan seems more realistic ?)

That kind of makes sense for all parties - assuming we finally sell TP to Turkey and Cornet returns imagine salary is there. Gives Juric something and the fans, hopefully drives a bit of momentum for a better second half of the season and reduced scar tissue for next season.

Ferguson I think works, the worry of course is that I have zero confidence in our scouting system to find anyone unproven at this level so chances are we have another dud we can’t get rid of.

Got it. So if a club offers 33 million or more Real Betis are obliged to sell. Anything below 33 million and negotiations take place.

Think technically it’s obliged to let the player talk to the other team. If the player doesn’t want to move then it doesn’t have to go through.

If we are going to bring in a striker, then surely instead of spending big bucks we should just go for a loan, with obligation to buy if we somehow stay up. Hopefully Rasmus is busy busy busy on his transferroom platform setting this up!

It’s irrelevant which PL club he goes to, and £10m say is £10m when he’s out of contract in the summer. Not sure he will want that move though.

Wouldn’t be so sure - suspect we might be less keen to do Wednesday many more favours after they advised us of their terms for progressing our interest in Rohl.
If Shea doesn’t return in this month it’ll be down to the terms of the loan and/or Juric’s view on whether he’ll utilize him enough to justify recalling him from an almost guaranteed 20+ championship appearances. That in itself might depend on other transfer dealings.
