Team building starts with the spine. We've got Aaron Ramsdale, which is a start. Buy Ayoub El-Kaabi in January and at least we'll have a central striker to score some goals. We should have done that in the summer instead of bringing in a bunch of goal shy wingers and inside forwards.

Just to clarify, you're now saying (and saying it as if it was definitely true and there could be no other possibilites!), that the only reason we signed Archer and BBD was so they would be great for us NEXT season in the Championship?

Despite PSR constraints that you've been parrotting for the last 3 months, the club decided the BEST thing they could possibly do was spend this year's transfer allocation and an entire years worth of wages on not one, but two players who will be useless for us this season, but absolute blinders for us next season.

This also means that the club entered the summer transfer window being 100% certain that we would be relegated (which makes the signing of AR look fucking weird, especially given 'PSR innit').

I imagine asking you for a source for this will be fruitless.  I also imagine you've made it up to suit your narrative.

You don't half make up some absolute bullshit.

Ok, so I've seen this post as someone else has quoted it - however you have been on ignore (as I said you would be) since you told me that all 5-9 year olds in Gaza are fair game to be killed because they are Muslim. Frankly, I don't need to see posts from someone as morally and ethically repugnant as you.

In relation to your post, let me break it down.

Firstly, I never said there weren't any other possibilities - this is my opinion and has been for over a year. You have your appalling opinions, and in your opinion so do I.

Secondly, you're thinking about this too simplisticly - yes it is a trait of yours - but even you should be able to see that we invested in players who we thought could do a job in the Premier League BUT would be unlikely to leave us next season if we went back down. The club probably knew that the likelihood was we'd get relegated, so why not build a strong core of players that we can use next season in the Championship - they will have played together for a season and will obviously know each others games far better. It would make us far stronger for when we come back up (not definite, but you would certainly aspire to judging by Ankersen's philosophy). They are for the most part young, and one thing we tend to know about young players is (a) they tend to be on smaller wages and (b) they tend to get better as their careers evolve. If we stayed up then great, but also if we went down we'd still be within PSR guidelines and we'd have an as strong, or stronger team than the one we got promoted with last time. Ramsdale was an exception, but we know (as does he) if we go down we will sell him and get our money back. I probably don't need to remind you that purchases are amortised over the contract years, but sales count against that year of PSR, giving us greater headroom next season when he is sold.

Thirdly, just because you don't understand something doesn't make it bullshit. It just makes it something you don't understand. I won't be looking at your responses to this post - frankly I couldn't give a shiny fuck what someone like you thinks about what I post - but to me the evidence is there. Let's see what happens in January - will we be looking at young, high reward players that will stay with us in the Championship, or established Premier League/top 5 European League players? I know which ones I think we'll be purchasing.

It is not unbelieveable that SR expect us to go down. I have no quotes or proof, but they didnt expect us to go up and imo it may have annoyed them that we did.

Imo, it would not surprise me if they had brought in players ready for the Championship.

Why would they be "annoyed" that we got promoted?

If they didn’t want go up at all why did we bother signing players like Downes and Fraser etc etc, why didn't we just flog KWP and Che in the summer of '23. If the plan was to finish mid table Championship they could have saved a fortune. Probably we could have just given the full time job to Selles. Why employ Jason Wilcox?

What you're saying makes zero sense.

If you gk up a year before expectation you accelerate the plan and adapt.

Not screw it up and buy average players you were scouting a year ago.

The premise is bullshit. There's never a scenario where staying  down another year is better than just getting promoted straight away.

The fact that the club bought players for the wrong division and therefore guaranteed our relegation before we started is 100% their fuck up.

We were only 2 years into the 10 year plan so promotion was too early. Relegation doesn’t matter this season anyway as we will still be 7 years ahead of schedule

I personally enjoyed the lecture that the three promoted clubs are guaranteed to be relegated every season forever as of now, and that we need to have multiple players on 4 year £100k a week contract to stand the remotest chance of staying up.

There are 9 games until the January "window" opens and clearly unless Onuachu starts to score he will surely move on - "somewhere ".

The likes of Wood and Edwards have had just one League Cup game each, and a few minutes with the U21 for fitness sake, one wonders if one or

other might be loaned out in order to maintain " match fitness" ?., and not sure that the loans of Cornet and Ugochukwu have been beneficial.?

For my part, the real weakness is ín midfield.  We have not been the same since Romeu left us, and despite those who disliked  JWP, he did give us some

MF stability, not to mention a decent supply of  free kicks / corners (and the goals of course).  Downes and Smallbone won the accolades last season ,

but neither has shown up this season ( injuries / form issues ) and although 60 minutes of Lallana is often productive, we need an experienced ball-winner

and someone to show more creativity to service strikers to a better extent. Maybe a good time to recall Shea Charles who is showing up well with Sheff. Wed

and as captain of the N. Ireland side.   He is still young, and DAJFU albeit as sub. on many occasions last season.

W have more strikers in the club than at any time I can remember, but still no goals and so I wouldn't be against signing one more with a decent goals record.

RM seems determined to plough on with the his game plan, but he must learn to "tweak " the formation to allow more opportunities to have shots / score.

We cannot continue to dominate with 60 even 70 % possession and only produce a handful of shots in a game.

Wasted? Fuck off mate. You are spending £600, significantly less than an annual Sky subscription, to see a genius manager guided by a visionary businessman creating a football dynasty which will become the gold standard in world soccerball right in front of your ungrateful beady eyes. Wasted FFS

Depends if we screw up the plan and get promoted again, given Rasmus ability to screw things up I expected we’ll get re-promoted immediately

You can disagree about whether we came up too early, but it's not a bullshit opinion to think so.  Here's a relevant quote from klopp in februrary:

"You can see Southampton’s direction is absolutely right. The way that Russell wants them to play is obvious.

"There are some risks that come with the style. You have to get used to it more and more. It is not for me to decide if they get promoted or not.

"They may stay in the Championship and get another year to work on it," the German continued.

"That could allow them to win more games in the Premier League because they might be a bit more settled."

Those quotes look patronising to me, giving the young manager whose side his youth team just beaten at a stroll a pat on the head and little boost.

Southampton FC cannot afford the players needed to play this idiotic system in the Premier League.  Give Martin another five years and it wont be any different.

We were in the Premier League for a decade before last season. We're not some plucky underdog team who have never played at that level.

Absolutely, whilst their ex-players urge the internet to 'give Russell more time' for the three points in the reverse fixture.  It's bollocks, if we become competitive it would stop over night..

I think the burns be wary about is what does the ten year plan look like? What’s the target for year ten? Is it challenging for a title or is it staying up? 😂

I’m less inclined to blame Russell or give him money to spend at this time. Sport Republic screwed up this summer - big time - again.

Agreed CB.   I'm tired of hearing voices from " the big clubs" who always seemed to consider Saints as " a second class club ".

Perhaps we always have been in terms of financing, but then they suddenly went quiet when we started taking points off them.

We might be a stronger club -  if we paid out 40-50 million for every new signing we made, but that is no guarantee of success either.

Sadly, one of his main attributes is his pace, so as we very rarely utilise that, would be a bit wasted in our team, unless say we do something radical like try to counter teams or play on the break (or just get it forward a bit quicker).
