Doesn't it just? So it's not just me, it's almost embarrassing.

I feel for both sets of fans watching this. More atmosphere on the moon.
Man City can’t be arsed and Saints haven’t the talent to do anything about it…

Cue Archer with a very decent attempt. Shows what having a go at goal can do for you…

What do you reckon Russ - have another one second half?

Not a bad half given the oppostion. Could have been a lot worse. Having said that, our fitness levels seem well off at this level and City haven't left 1st gear yet so I'm still expecting a 4-0 or so.

Would he miss more than one game if he ends up getting a red? Might as well go for the red if not 😁

Ok sure, the wars over, we don't need to keep banging on about it. We're here to watch football not give some performance about something that no living people remember 🤷

I remember the sacrifices and hardship my family endured during 5 years under German Occupation and it is the lasting legacy of those who fought for us that the freedom we have as a result lives on, whether you like it or not. This is a football forum, as you say, so then don't post offensive remarks and not expect comments.

City's defence has been poor for a while now, they've kept one clean sheet in the league this season. They can be broken through and that proved with Archer hitting the bar in the final moments.

I'd like to think we'd switch up a bit in the second half, test them a bit more. But, I predict it will be another low tempo borefest.

Nathan Jones worked out a way to beat City, which he then didn't apply to any other fixture, but Martin's going into every single game with the same tactical instructions.

Martin will be fairly pleased with that, overall. Play to his possession style, restrict them as much as possible, keep it flat as a result, and look to pounce on any gilt edged opportunity. The result is we're one down and with our only real attack, hit the bar.

It's frustrating as a supporter watching your side be so cautious, invite plenty of attacks without laying a glove on the opposition until the closing moments.

We'll have to come forward later on, to see if we can get a point. Both might continue as was until then. City likely to get a second before that happens though.

Considering Archer's game is extremely limited outside of finishing, he doesn't appear to be very good at it

Yeah, apart from scoring four goals and hitting the woodwork three times in his first 10 appearances in an absolute dogshite side, you mean

Which is a big problem.

Not really, given we are playing possibly the best team in world football today. The issue is when he thinks it after defeats vs Leicester, Ipswich, Forest, Brentford, Bournemouth.

So... here's the case for Russball. We have 45% possession at half-time, vs 30% typical of away teams here.  If Man C had that extra 15% possession, it would increase their overall possession from 55% to 70%, implying that instead of 10 attempts on goal, they'd have 13.  One of those could easily be the second goal.

I think our style of play is terrifying but also exhilarating. If we can do this well against ManC, we can absolutely use this style to do well in the premier league. I'm proud of the boys.  If we can now score before they do... this will be a great game, no matter the final result.

Wd love to see tall Paul w 20-30 mins.  He offers a great outlet if things get tougher.   C'mon Saints!!!

WGS had a phrase that perfectly summed up the current style of play: "propaganda football".

I miss when people wanted to play FOOTBALL. Who remembers being in the park or the playground and passing it 6 yards from the keeper to the defenders? Nobody. F*cking get at each other with pace and power and entertain those paying their money.

Only 1-0 down in the most difficult game in world football. Yeah, I'd call that successful.

It's more to do with Man City playing in first gear to be fair, but it means we're still in with a sniff (yeah, I know they'll go up a few gears in the second half and we'll make a load of subs-for-subs-sake that make us weaker, but one can dream.... ;) )

It was really evident at the Euros when a couple of teams didn't get the memo and actually tried to play football.

You don't have to participate if you don't want to but events such as these serve as a reminder of the sacrifices taken by those that came before us.

Wars effect generations. People alive today grew up as orphans or with traumatised parents as a direct result of the war. I really don't like language like "poppy shite" it just shows a real lack of class and respect.

I used to love those days, long balls to a huge lumbering striker, monkey chanting at the blacks, smoking mandatory for all over 7's, 2 day weeks and nonce's allowed to abuse whoever they wanted as they are just "the dirty bloke round the corner". Those were the days.

Correction: Think that'll be served against Stoke in midweek, actually

Anything less than 4 and I'll see that as a success.

These are not the games that are important, they are damage limitation.

More possession doesn't automatically mean more shots. We've literally been evidence of that this season.

I know what you mean but The case against Russ is that after today we will have 1 point out of 27. But mire importantly, got 1 point out of 6 against 2 home games against Leicester and Ipswich.
