coalman Posted 22 October, 2024 Posted 22 October, 2024 Not having an official thread for this game isn't going to make it go away. We can't hide under the duvet. This is real and it's happening. Nathan Jones style fluke win to vindicate Russell Martin's style or record breaking drubbing. It may well depend on whether City show up but, let's face it many of us are going into the game hoping that the worst doesn't quite happen. At the very least it's the free-est of free hits. Jack Stephens is back so we can expect 3 or 4 pages of despair when the team is announced. I intend to spend the rest of the week preparing behind my sofa so I have a comfortable safe place to watch from. 2 7
Saint Gifford Posted 22 October, 2024 Posted 22 October, 2024 Wolves had it covered perfectly tbf. Well at least for the first 7 mins. Jokes to one side it had to take them to injury time to win it on Sunday. It will take a miracle, or RM to actually take the handbrake off, for us to get a result. Stranger things have happened 🥴🥴
Daft Kerplunk Posted 22 October, 2024 Posted 22 October, 2024 It’ll be like the love child of Anne Widdecombe and Nigel Farage. Fugly and horrid. 1 1
Football Special Posted 22 October, 2024 Posted 22 October, 2024 I remember Pep marching on to the pitch to shake Nathan Redmonds hand, who could it be this time?
BarberSaint Posted 22 October, 2024 Posted 22 October, 2024 We will win 75-0 and Pep will retire hailing the genius that is RM. Man City will appoint Mousinho in Pep's place. 1
AlexLaw76 Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 (edited) Meh. City will be pretty wasteful in front of goal, as per. However, they will still win by 4 or 5, and Martin will hail the bravery of his players with at least 1 goal conceded by needlessly giving the ball away in our defensive 3rd (which is a failing that we are waaaay clear at the top of the league for) and the madness continues Edited 23 October, 2024 by AlexLaw76 1

Wade Garrett Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Hopefully we’ll shade them on possession. That’s what’s important. Keep going with the process and be brave. Fucking numpty. 2
tdmickey3 Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Who cares as long as we just follow the process FFS It seems our "process" is to break records by getting the lowest points total as is possible so based on that keeping Martin will achieve that......... job done Why did we lumbered with this bunch of idiots?
saintant Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 We'll bravely hold out and, in the 99th minute with the score at 0-0 and the ref looking at his watch City will win a corner. As it's worked so well before we'll stick eleven men in our six yard box and Grealish will play the ball to an unmarked Foden on the edge of the area and he'll slam it into the net with Ramsdale unsighted. Russ will talk about our bravery and turning a corner instead of talking about the corner. Rinse and repeat for the season. 1 1
Charlie Wayman Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Expect similar tactics to those used against Arsenal at the Emirates, nine men behind the ball and Archer isolated up front as a lone striker. The real qestion will be for how long we can hold out again before conceding. Arguably, those tactics fared well aginst the Gunners for a while and when we switched to attacking them and taking a shock lead it probably surprised Martin and his players as much as it did us. Inevitably a backs-to-the-wall approach has its limitations; players tire physically and concentration and discipline drop so holes appear all over the place with the inevitable consequences of the superior quality of the opposition leading to only one possible outcome. This is very likely to be a re-run of that match although whether we can actually score against City is open to doubt. I can't see past a 3-0 victory for the Sky Blues. Our best chance of preventing a rout is to shackle Harland but that's easier said than done. Over to you THB!
LiberalCommunist Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Lose 4-0, and then have the pleasure of pep gushing over our style of football. Great. 1
Midfield_General Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 I’m not sure Pep Guardiola will have the tactical nous to work out how Russ ‘Keep ‘Em Guessing’ Martin is going to play, or how to counter it. 4

Mr Nimbus Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 The goal cyborg will get 4 and we will lose 6-1 1
ErwinK1961 Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Time to whip the triple captain out in Fantasy Football this week.
Doctoroncall Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 I really want to be surprised and just see a loss by three goals or less. out of interest what are the odds of a Saints win?

Pamplemousse Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 We'll win. Sparta Prague will cause them a few issues on Wednesday, we get to 0-0 at half time and then we unleash pure pace against their tiring defenders. Sulemana hat trick, Archer double and Jack Stephens will get in on the act, referee will blow for full time without any injury time to take pity on the hapless City players. 2
Tom57 Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 (edited) It probably won't be a humongous win for City as it just isn't worth the effort for them. They'll win 2 or 3-0 at a canter, basically treating it like a cup game against lower league opposition. The teams we need to worry about beating us by cricket scores are the up and coming European competition teams like Villa, for whom a big 8-0 win would be something they'd talk about at the end of the season as being a highlight. The games against the likes of us, Ipswich, Palace, Wolves etc. don't really register on the radars of the title contenders at the end of the season unless we don't lose and they don't win the title. My team: Ramsdale; Sugawara, THB, Bednarek, KWP; Aribo, Downes, Fernandes; Dibling, Onuachu, Archer Edited 23 October, 2024 by Tom57 Forgot Villa were in the champions league! 2
Midfield_General Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 (edited) RM's tactical plan for City has been leaked online. "Doing precisely what we've done 18 times before is exactly the last thing they'll expect us to do this time!" Give it up for Melchett Martin and his Suicide Saints. Thripp87 Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Are we getting a new manager after this game?

Jeremy Corbyn Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Assuming RM's contract extension is announced pre-game, I think we'll nab the lead then lose 4 or 5 - 1. 1

Disco Stu Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 The game Russell Martin's been dreaming about since it all began. Facing his idol Pep Guardiola. The culmination of his managerial career. I bet he begged Dragan he could stay long enough to get to this moment. 1

franniesTache Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Saints will turn up and look like a completely different team, the pointless passing will be replaced by sharp incisive forward movement, we'll start with two strikers and put pressure on city from the front, whipping in crosses to tall paul to create chaos and defend with our backs to the wall, clearing the lines long up the pitch and using the pace of archer to give us an outlet. We will sneak it 1-0 in the end with an amazing performance that harks back to the best relegation battles of the past. Actually who the fuck am i kidding with that? What will actually happen is that for the first 5-10mins will have looked pretty good but created no real chances. Somewhere around the 11th or 12th minute we will give the ball to Halaand who will score. Around the 15th minute we'll give away a stupid free kick as one of our players tries to make up for a wayward pass in the direction of our goal and Halaand will score his second from the free kick. The players heads will drop. Shortly after, around the 18th or 20th minute mark City will score their third. Our more sensible supporters will leave for the pub at about the 25minute mark. They will reach the pub about the same time the half time whistle goes. Saints will be 3-0 down. Saints will then come out after the second half and continue to make 3million passes across the midfield and defence that go absolutely nowhere, and our striker will be permanently bound to the wings and create nothing. This won't look terrible for the first 10mins of the second half and some hope will creep in. City will score their 4th about midway through the second half after Martin makes four bizarre changes that completely changes the shape of the team. We will continue to plod on, creating little to no chances until they get their 5th and 6th in stoppage time. For some utterly bizarre reason, like prisoners overcome with Stockholm syndrome, those remaining fans will clap the players off in an almost masochistic display of celebrating failure. Martin will come out after the game, say that he's hurt but we played some good stuff, he will go on to blame the players, himself, the tea lady, the fella from the echo who looks like his about to carry out a bombing raid on germany, Sammy Saint and Buddha himself. Everyone will expect him to be sacked as he's clearly not good enough, but Sport Republic will instead announce a contract extension and ban any fans who dare question Martin's regime. They will also announce the sale of Kool Aid in the Northam End with a flagship advertising campaign fronted by Charles Manson 3

Saint Fan CaM Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Yep, we’re gonna get mullered. 5-0 City.
Suhari Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Bought myself an extra large tube of KY for this one. And a gumshield. 2
derry Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Onuachu and Archer up on the centrebacks and route one. Everybody else press hard.

coalman Posted 23 October, 2024 Author Posted 23 October, 2024 Our best chance is to keep it 0-0 as long as possible. Score first and early and we get battered. Concede early and we get battered. Luckily we have Capn Jack back to play in his libero role which City aren't going to have an answer for. Then on 90 minutes we use our superior fitness and a series of inspired substitutions to go for the jugular. Translation. Be 5-0 down at half time, pull off our best players and then switch off in the last 10 minutes
suewhistle Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Is it on telly? No? Good! And don't anybody get any ideas about posting dodgy stream links as I might click on it by mistake. 1
Zorba Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Saints will be unlucky. They will get 13 touches over 90 minutes. 1 kick-off. 1 own goal. 11 re-starts. 11-0 #WeMartinOn

Turkish Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 match week 9 in the English Premier Soccerball league and it doesn't getting any more exciting than this one! a trip to Manchester to see the City of Manchester in their fantastic stadium. The great news for the Southampton Saints is that we get to watch our players perform against wonderful players which is everything us soccerball fans wanted when we achieved repromotion back to the worlds greatest league. Cannot wait to hear what Pep says pre match and i'll be there making sure i get close to the corner spot to get some truly great photos of the blues players taking corners and maybe they'll score a goal or two in front us for photos of them celebrating to add to the special memories. Come on the Saints of Southampton, lets put up a good fight and show those City players that we wont just accept out inevitable loss lying down!! If you cannot get excited by this match then maybe soccerball isn't for you!! Lets go Southampton Saints!!! 4
suewhistle Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 I have found you can get to see some football, but only after some 'really, well my word!?' moments.. I think Saturday comments are going to be less surprise, more cries of misery..
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 I'm looking forward to seeing Stephens performance against Stones; Dibling against Grealish's; Martin against Pep and SR against City Group. Finally Martin gets his dream fixture. The culmination of everything he's been working towards. 3 fist pumps at full time, rather than tears for our tactical magician (the man who can escape from any winning position)
trousers Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 Honestly? I can't see anything beyond a 0-0 here. Not sure about the remaining 89 minutes though. 1 2
Jack Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 If we could get through this without any injuries or red cards, and less than about -5 on the GD, I’d take it
LGTL Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 This could be double figures if City want it to be. Our only hope is that they can't really be arsed and just settle for 4/5/6/7. 2
VectisSaint Posted 23 October, 2024 Posted 23 October, 2024 We will probably play well and lose to a late goal. That's the way it seems to go against the top teams, making people think we have got something, then we play a poor team and lose badly.

People get carried away predicting double figures when we play anyone in the top six and it’s never happened. Most recently it was Arsenal and we were leading after an hour or so.
