Saints 2-3 Leicester - Match Thread

Walking out the ground now. The first 55 minutes were good, with the usual howler and possibility of hiccup at any time. Ref was poor and missed plenty.  They had one off the post and two clear headers they failed to convert, so they were always goals in it for Leicester. After the subs we just totally fell off a cliff. And they lost any sense of fight once Leicester equalised.

Players looked broken at the end, and the crowd really turned on Martin too.

If we are unfit that alone should be a sackable offence because there is absolutely no excuse for us not being on a par with the fittest team in the Premier League.

Agreed. Not having the skill is forgivable but being unfit isn't. We should bec the fittest to compensate.

Whatever. Losing 3-2 with the last kick of injury time, after being 2-0 is just the most bog standard, off the shelf Saints result there is.

Too true. Years beyond getting cross about it as well. Club has been rudderless since Ronald left with a lack of drive and a complacent ‘we know better than you’ attitude to both supporters and pundits alike.

Well, look at the league table again tossers. I doubt they will learn though, Rasmus will appoint Michael Flynn from Cheltenham or someone from the Bulgarian fourth division who likes the same vape flavour as him to be distinctive.

Always been in the "give him time camp"...... times up, the Fraser substitution is bordering on insanity, time to go Russ, not a fan of this, Manager being pals with the players thing, gaffer should be the gaffer not your mate. feck it i'd even take big Sam now 🤷‍♂️

Utter incompetence from the ref and VAR team gave us no chance whatsoever 😩

Watched it live overseas with two other Saints fans and even at two up we were sure that the officials would destroy us which they eventually did…

The PL is a joke….

Bring back the Championship !!

So sad and predictable, cannot even get annoyed, then what do we really expect with the worse squad and the worse manager in the league. Even more sad is the fact that we do not have any one in the club who could get a decent manager in,even if one wanted to come, give it to AL  on a temporary basis,.with some other ex players who actually love the club. Feel sorry for Mr Solak, having his pants continually pulled down by a load of clowns.

Moyes in please..

Experienced Prem manager is what we need .

I don’t think he’d join as head coach and can’t blame him.

Replacing Rasmus as Head of Football at SR might be different though, as long as Rasmus can be parked at Goztepe and kept away from Saints on a permanent basis.

The amount of late goals conceded is not an accident. In the same way we were that bit fitter and scored a lot of late goals last season.

What I don't understand is we were comfortable for a lot of the game today. The red card changed things for me as we were 2-1 up then. Both Lallana and Taylor should have come on today to shore things up and for us to see out the game. Really deflated after that today.

So are the players 'championship fit', or just less fit than last season?

Had to laugh when the third went in - we haven’t won now in the PL for 21 games ( half a season) and we clearly aren’t competitive at this level so there’s not much to say really is there. Seems odd though that the seasons effectively over in October.

Martin tells the players they need to run more in games but what are the fitness team doing in training? Because whatever it is, it isn't working.

Don’t talk rubbish. Once they scored 1 it was always going to happen. They hit the bar, the post & Vardy got denied by a great block. They still scored 3. Once Lego made his subs, that was the moment the game changed. Not the sending off.

I think replacing Rasmus has to be the starting point but until that happens we haven’t hit rock bottom

My sense is the former e.g. upper Championship/parachute players fit, but not 17th and above PL fit. To genuinely compete this season, we needed WGS/Adkins/Pochettino/Koeman/early Ralph fit, and the numbers and outcomes clearly indicate we are nowhere near that.

Can't see us being anywhere near as competitive in the Championship next year, the very little quality we have will go, they owe us nothing.  This club is on the 'Derby' and 'Sunderland' trail - going through the Championship and languishing in league one for a while.  We are a complete and utter mess right now, turning it around is not going to be an easy task.

I can only assume that RM and his team have underestimated how fit we need to be at this level. But as he never seems to learn, it ain't changing any time soon.

Don’t talk nonsense, our whole squad is Championship quality except for 2 or 3 players.

The signs were there towards the latter stages of the first half. 2-0 up but getting deeper and deeper allowing them to dictate play. Just knew it wouldn’t end well.

The most annoying thing for me was that I actually thought in the first half that there is a team worse than us in the PL.

Does he though? can we turn on someone for not being good enough at this level when we all knew he wouldn't be good enough at this level? It's SR and the board that our anger should be directed at surely?

We said that in 22/23 though, get the next appointment right finally and can see us being top 6, a lot of those players are proven in that league. The parachute payments give you a huge advantage. Rasmus must not be part of that process though, experienced top league football professionals only making that decision. He’s proven his judgement to be very poor consistently with anything SFC-related.

The way to take pressure off defending corners is elementary. Leave at least two quick players on the halfway line. At least one more half way that really thins out the attackers. At 2-2 Cooper isn't going to leave those players unmarked, it would probably mean four or five less players in our box. If players are on the edge of the box don't Leave them unmarked. RM learned nothing from the Ipswich debacle.

Smallbone is hopeless, didn't press, mark or tackle just strolled backwards and forwards. A waste of a substitution, what's more took off one of our best players for him. We lost KWP on the left, bring on Taylor. I thought he should have started Onuachu with Archer and Dibling.

Bit harsh, he did what was needed at the time, still a young Manager in no shame in admitting he not yet ready for the Prem..... maybe time to move on, but he got us here

Why did he sub Fernandes for Smallbone?  Why did he put Manning left-back after Sugawara went to off?  Should have brought Taylor and Fraser on to run the left-side.

Why did we defend the corner at the end in exactly the same way as against Ipswich when they scored?  That’s on the manager.

Anyone who defends Martin after that tactical shit show can fuck right off.  He needs to be sacked today.  Arrogant cunt refuses to change and the same things happen to us week after fucking week.

Fucking fuming.

I actually don’t think it’s arrogance. He just genuinely hasn’t got a clue when it comes to defending. Literally zero clue.

I really hate playing these. They always find a way to embarrass us

We embarrassed ourselves because there is no defensive organisation or discipline. It needs a new manager that believes in defence first, high tempo, severe pressing, an in your face attitude and isn't interested in counting meaningless passes.

I think that's a valid point. Players in this league are just better athletes and fitter than the Championship
