Saint Jonny, I thought you were being serious until you mentioned Walcott, Adams and a past it Bertrand as three of the best seven.

We could all pick a team at random. Against Everton in that season we started with Baz in goal, Caleta-Car, Larios, Maitland- Niles, Mara as well as those superstars Adams and Aribo. I really think our squad today is better than that, has a better attitude and frankly better than at least three other teams in this premier league.

This is the weekend where it all finally clicks!

Majestic possession lures Leicester in. We neatly

and nimbly pass it around for 147 touches of the ball before Archer smashes it into the roof of the net. Bednarek plays like Beckenbauer in his prime, curling beautiful 50 yard passes to the wingers with ease. THB breaks a record for the best pass completion for a centre back in premier league history. Praise is heaped upon the team as 80% possession means Leicester can’t lay a glove on us. 
 

Just kidding. We are Southampton, not Man City. So we give it away at the back, vardy pounces on the counter. 1-3 Leicester. Win the possession stats though.

This is the weekend where I spend my £15 on pre-match refreshments on beers in 'Spoons and as a result fall asleep in my seat, happily oblivious to the result..

Would a draw be the best result here? Not enough to keep RM in the job (hopefully), doesn't let leicester pull away and will give the new man city as a free hit before we come to play back to back must wins in Everton and Wolves.

I think you may well be right. I have a sneaky feeling that the next international breakwill be the next decision point. Unless, that is, we either have an embarrassing defeat or it's clear that he has lost the dressing room.

I think Cooper will have the tactical nous to outdo Martin.

It’s not like they won’t know how we’ll play.

We won’t win.  Just like we won’t win any other league game playing the Martin version of PepBall.

I’ll be in my seat, and once again me and everyone around me will be moaning at how slow and predictable we are.

Absolute fucking joke of a club.

One point from 21 is ample proof that it isn't working. What more evidence is needed??

There is also nothing to say that this crop of players couldn't play a very different style if that's what they were coached/instructed to do. I'm in the same camp as those on here who believe there's a lot more to come from these players if they're allowed to express themselves fully.

We've still got a few of the players from a previous change in Bree, TP and ABK from before then.

Considering at least one player said that they had to relearn a number of their football instincts to get the best out of RM's system, and how we see it working, it's safe to conclude that they would adapt to other, more traditional, systems.

Whether that would be enough to keep us up is unknown. Another left field, system at all costs manager might take more time to settle in. An average, yet traditional, manager may find we're much of a muchness with the others and not staying up anyway.

It's been a lot of managers since any of our players got to express themselves.

Fixed systems to which players must fit will always be a poor option. The skilled coach is the one who liberates talent. We should know--compare Branfoot keeping Le Tizz on the bench and Bally revealing a world beater.

To be fair the other 10 players had very fixed jobs to allow Le Tiss to do what he did best.

Sadly this seems spot on. 

In a related thought, I think my wife's Minion-shaped hotwater bottle would have the tactical nous to outdo Martin.

1-2 loss. And a very pissed off atmosphere.

When I step onto the terraces I’ll be right up for it, we need to be at it from the off to keep the fans on side. But can really only see a point each in this, another loss will likely change the atmosphere for the worse going onwards.

However, if we win we gain 3 points and the possibility that we may have turned a corner;  a change of course then could be the worst possible thing to do?

I'd actually forgotten about SAA (Assume RM has too). Thought he looked pretty good pre-season.

I thought I'd instil some optimism into the thread. This is our 2nd best chance of a league victory all season, after Ipswich at home. Of course, if we don't win this one, there's always the cup.

I was having this discussion the other day, at least we have Stoke at home soon.....

A team we haven't beaten at home in a decade and failed to score against in our last four home games against them 😞

Reading our forum and their's, its a wonder this isn't being called the graham potter derby...

They seem as excited about their team as we are for ours..! That promotion feeling dried off fairly quickly.

I'm somewhat relieved that they got their first win out of the way themselves, otherwise it was an inevitable result.

How long have you been a Saints fan ? You must know by now that if a team hasnt won for ages, someone hasnt scored for ages or is looking for their first goal for a new club it always comes against Southampton - the gift that keeps on giving !

Wow, is this really the way you look at football? Try and enjoy it man!

Hopefully we win and Martin and the lads turn things around, thats how I feel about it anyway.

That just isn’t true, it’s something that people say all the time and then immediately forget if it doesn’t happen. We beat West Brom home and away last year, so obviously they were, “due a win,” against us in the playoffs, likewise Leeds in the final. Etc.

Wasn't it Rashford's first goal in ages? Bournemouth forward first PL goal? We do love providing a 'first' for the opposition. That said, I want us to win on Saturday but - for the many reasons expressed on here and better than I can - I don't think a win should save RM. We either need him to change or the board needs to change him.

Surely its inevitable that if Leicester score, Vardy will score? Even you must know that Lighthouse. It is written 😄.
(May or may not happen in the 95th minute to deny us our first win, and Vardy may or may not foul our best player (Dibling this season), injuring his achilies and putting him out for the rest of the season before he then demands a move to Liverpool - i'm not bitter against Vardy or anything).

I don’t think either will happen (at least until it’s far too late). The change we need is Dragan getting rid of most of the board.
