Confused that he wanted to start with Stewart but then transitions to archer than the more l4l option. Don’t rate archer at all either.

Doesn't tally up with his assertion that he's going to play the same way no matter what either.

Maybe we're onto something here. If we never have the ball then we can't give it away in stupid positions and concede.

The art of football, without football.

Players in space on the break when we win the ball back there and we fucking pass it backwards. Fuck off.

Possession stats far more important. The creativity has been coached out of them

Seriously why bring on Archer. Can’t hold the ball up at all.

If he hates Paul I'd have rather see Diaz or Armstrong, someone experienced who knows how to put themselves about and win a freekick or two to take the pressure off. Archer just looks lost.

We’re crying out for somebody to maybe hold the ball up, hence starting Stewart, not that he’s any good at it, so he goes with archer instead of tall Paul. Madness.
he literally can’t be any worse.
ok we know he’s a bit Bambi on ice but he makes the bench so can’t be all that bad surely

0-0 at HT

I didn't see that coming at all. We've been working hard, throwing bodies in the way etc and even had a shot.

Sadly, I think they'll have too much second half. Plenty of options off the bench worth more than our squad put together.

Talk Sport are saying that Saints are defending heroically, no lack of effort evident today and looking quite comfortable.

Not sure if they are at the same game as the posters on here.

Saints fans giving rapturous applause to their players.

So who's right...?

They're solid, doing well defensively but nothing else is happening. Arsenal are also putting next to no effort in at all, as soon as they turn it up a notch we'll be in trouble.

Well. I didn't expect that.

If it were us, being this dominant and not scoring, we would all know how the game turns out.

It couldn't happen. Could it?

If we win this, I will give £100 to the registered charity of your choice.

This may be a bold prediction but there's no chance this finishes with us on a clean sheet. Playing this way is suicidal and it feels like only a matter of time. We have been no threat at all. I predict this ends 3-0 and Marton uses the first half as evidence that his style of play works when imo it suggests the opposite.

I think we got into their half on 3 or 4 occasions so bonus points for that. Trouble is that whenever a chance of a break is on the players seem to be under instructions to stop and wait for a slow pass backwards.

It’s all Arsenal but they haven’t had their shooting boots on. Won’t last. We’re defending ok but racking up the bookings and will get tired, still a comfortable win for Arsenal in the end IMO

He's terrified of putting Paul on in case he grabs a goal.

Difference is that Saints fans seem to be naturally negative/depressive whilst Talk Sport are neutral and see things as they are?

Trossards the player that will make the difference for them when he comes on.

To be fair to RM, he has set up to try not to get beat. A low block with KWP as a 2nd left back when it's with Saka, then he has a kind of free defensive role when it goes left and KWP has actually mopped up quite a lot of potential danger.

The problem right now is we have literally 0 threat. Stewart was clearly on to try to hold up the ball which he was doing OK at up against 2 class CBs. So why the heck replace him with Archer, who is clearly a channel runner / ball in behind type?! Would make more sense to have BBD or Tall Paul in surely?

There's so much luck in football. We are unlucky to be only on one point. Arsenal are unlucky not to be ahead given their dominance.  But this could yet be our day. if Dibling and Fernandes combine for a wonder goal and the heroic defending continues... well, that would just be another instance of 'funny old game'.

Can't believe Arteta hasn't figured out the best strategy is to give the ball to us, let us run it sideways and backwards to our own goal, then pass it to one their attackers in a dangerous area for them to score...everyone else has done it.

Would be a giggle if this ended 0-0 or 1-1!

Well I expect Russ will say the team have executed his instructions to get to half-time without conceding in perfect fashion. We all know how his halftime talks do wonders…I’m now quietly pessimistic rather than suicidal!🤣🤣
