Saints play Stoke at home.

Tottenham vs. Man City

Newcastle (probably) vs. Chelsea

Man Utd vs. Leicester

Brighton vs. Liverpool

Preston vs. Arsenal

Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace

Brentford vs. Sheffield Weds

Good chance to get through to the quarter finals and some of the bigger clubs will be going out.

Out of the 8 ties, 6 of them have to be on the Wednesday as one of the teams play on the preceding Sunday, only our game and Brentford v Sheffield Wednesday can play on either day, so it will almost certainly be played on Tuesday. Bad news for Sky that all of the big teams have to play on the same day

Last time we were relegated from the premier league we reached the semi final of this competition so could we be about to see history repeat itself?

It's a good draw but I do remember Stoke at home last season being dreadful 0-1 defeat, won't be easy.

Game is in school half term would be nice for them to do cheap tickets and get a decent crowd in

Nice draw, could open up slightly. Cup runs always make things feel just a tad better.

Unless there are a couple of upsets (Preston, or Wimbledon - twice - winning) I don't see it opening up as much as coming face to face with one of the big guns. But, one of them at home, and who knows.

On the face of it a very good draw and route in to the last 8. That said, is there any point to getting into the last 8, when they will likely be...

Brentford
Southampton
Manchester City
Chelsea
Manchester United
Liverpool
Arsenal
Aston Villa

On top of this, we will probably take the game to lightly, rest too many and get picked apart by Stoke and be the upset of the round as we so often are. Definitely a good opportunity for us to see some of the fringe players together. I would like to see more or Cornet for a start, if not before. I would also like to see BBD in a centre forward role rather than out wide. His goal to game ration last season at the Blades was exceptional when you consider how bad they were. I would also like to see game time for Edwards at the back and perhaps some trialing of trying KWP and Suga at the same time on the right. We should have more than enough for Stoke, and if we keep TD, AL and MF on the bench we will be able to call of some good strength if needed. Perhaps thereafter we get lucky again and draw Brentford at SMS in the QF.

The inevitable consequence of the 'seeded' early draw perhaps ? Even then I suspect many of the clubs will put out squad players, 'weakened' by their standards, but still an assembly of multi-million pound players.

No doubt about it. Makes me wonder, if they do not value the League Cup, then why bother trying to win it. Just bugger off and concentrate on the Champions League.

No team to fear there whatsoever. It’s just a game of football…11 vs 11. Anything could happen. 😬

But yeah, a humiliating reaming is highly likely and we’ll be gifted a chance to “concentrate on the league”. 🤣

We beat Man City with a shit team and shit manager. I really wonder why some of you lot are even interested in football? Clearly gives you no joy even at the stage where you can be optimistic! You are miserable about the ensuing defeat regardless of whether it happens or not.

Agreed, it's just depressing on here at the moment.  Every thread seems to get infected with some version of 'we're doomed'.

There will be at least one 'shock' in the 8 matches. Let's hope it isn't us!

One thing our history has taught us surely is "never underestimate the opposition"
