Pretty poor PL team in all honesty but probably the best we have

WTF?!

RM managed us to a promotion, winning The Richest Game in Football™ for many fans one of the most enjoyable days following Saints they can remember.

Nathan Jones wasted the World Cup window, lost 8 of 9 PL games and was sacked after just 95 days. The cup wins against Lincoln Town, Everton plus the genuinely unbelievable match against Man City must be doing a lot of heavy lifting in your head!

If it’s The Richest Game in Football™ then why are we so poor?

We are not poor by any stretch of the imagination, we just don't have as much to spend as most of the other teams in our league.

Edit: assuming your mean poor in the finacial sense not performance

Absolute bankers today.

1.) lots of useless possession

2.) Ipswich will win to nil

3.) the so called Northam wall will be a morgue.

Bet you're a right laugh on a night out with the lads 😂

I meant financial but both senses apply.

Apart from not moving on style, I’m of the opinion that Russ doesn’t really know who is best team is and even if we snatch 1 or 3 points today, he’ll still not understand why, so will stubbornly make further changes to either personnel and/or shape.

Difficult to see how we’ll score a single goal let alone the number sufficient to win a game based on what we’ve seen so far. Head says 0-2 loss - heart says faltering 1-1.

Interesting line up that, not one I'd have predicted.

Maybe better balance with Taylor coming in. With FD as the only DM it looks more attacking.

Fruastrating to see Wood on the bench; surely ABK or Edwards should be there instead. No Smallbone in the squad again.

Left side should look much better with Fraser and Taylor providing some width rather than BBD and KWP constantly pushing the ball back inside because they can’t use their left

Lallana starting then.

We're short of height and physical presence up front, will be too easy to defend against, fair play for trying something different though

KWP unlucky to be dropped.

Guess that's what happens when you don't sign a new contract.

The team sheet is now on some app. I always appreciate someone putting the team on this site in picture format.

Lallana starting with Tyler, said before I would like to see them together, think it could be interesting. KWP dropped is a shock, but like others (THB, Downes etc) he just seems out of form at the moment.

Midfield quite attacking. Can't really argue with that team. KWP hasn't been his best recently.

Probably because he's being played out of position.

That's a lot of responsibility on Downes today, but much more creativity in there. Some decent balance down the left should help us massively.

Who is with Downes in midfield? We will get over run in there without big Les alongside. No muscle in there at all.
oh well fingers crossed for a high possession jammy 1-0 win. As opposed to a high possession no shots on target 1-0 defeat…

I think Fernandes will be expected to play deeper and put himself about a bit alongside Downes.

Someone needs to keep an eye on that prick Morsy. He should have been sent off about three times over against us last season. Wouldn't put it past him to try to put one on Dibling early on.

I'm not sure that's his game. If we lose midfield, we lose the game imo. Selection is brave or silly - we'll know later this afternoon.

Would have probably had Les in place of Fernandes, but seems a reasonable selection otherwise.

KWP not been at it, probably didn’t expect to be here still so his head must be all over the place.

Downes is going to have to work very hard.

Les has looked bang average though, and our problem this season has been in the balance between defence and attack. We've been far too defensive and not creative enough, so without changing the midfield dynamic I'm not sure how you really effect that.

Different leagues but most of his games last season were from a deeper role and, if anything, the last couple of games for us have been in a position he’s not used to

Disagree. He is exactly what this team needs.

Seem to remember the Sporting fans saying he was pretty flexible and could play pretty much anywhere box-to-box. But as you say, we're about to find out...

Good to see Lallana starting. I was against him coming back, but he's here now and to be fair to him he's been absolutely excellent every time he's played. He's looked head and shoulders above anyone else we've got in terms of vision, passing ability and sheer quality on the ball. Could be very important for us if he can stay fit, even if he can only manage 60 mins (bearing in mind he rarely managed the full 90 even when he was in his prime).

Is Smallbone still carrying an injury? If not, he's gone from being a starter to not even making the squad.

Think the team sheet is brave from Russ actually - looks like he’s actually trying to give the home fans something to be excited about. Of course that’s only half the story - if they’re told to continue with the suicidal passing backwards and sideways in our own half, then the crowd will grow more and more restless and play right into Ipswich’s hands. Fingers crossed the team will be switched on enough to really go for goal.

Thinking Lallana might be partnering Downes - he’s capable enough and has the ability to control midfield. Maybe.

Apart from tackling and ballwinning  of course

I thought KWP was poor at left back last week.

He was, and he's been unbalancing us. Taylor is the correct pick today, as is Fraser ahead of him.

Looks a bit lightweight and weak in midfield, and unless Dibling fulfills his promise (tall order for an 18 year old after only three games)not a great deal of threat upfront.
