Tall Paul and ABK either in first team squad  tomorrow or told not even being used in this for match fitness they're so far off , probably find the pair of them having a kick about down the common instead.

Make or break for Russy baby it's not to early to say this is a pivotal game a six pointer it you like, anything less than a win and I think the tide may turn in the good will towards him, if you can't get a single point on the board and your losing to other clubs predicted to be in the relegation mix things aren't going to end well for you. He could end up with a record even worse than Nathan Jones.

You and I and others might like to see him play, however you’re wrong to think a player is going to be picked if he’s disliked by his Manager and/or fellow players. In a team sport at this level that can make a difference when small gains help. And my interpretation of how Russ views his team would mean ABK is not favoured over more ‘loyal’ players despite his positive attributes.

Expand

Even Branfoot had to accept he was harming the team by leaving out MLT. ABK won't add goals to the team (he can hardly make it worse as only defenders have scored in 90 minutes). When he played in the prem, he was easily good enough before the shoulder injury. Put it this way, if and when RM gets the bullet, I'm confident the new manager will start him

He was rank last season and with KWP not moving on and Taylor looking decent at Goodison, it’s the only game time he will get until January.

I thought he’d be Danny Fox with slightly more pace but Danny was a far superior player at Champ level.

I'd like a 4231 with

Suga     THB    bedders   Taylor

KWP         Fernandes     Fraser

I know we won't play this and there is an argument for Cornet coming in if he's fit enough but for me this could suit us better, also although could have done better with goal THB looked more relaxed in a 4, I would like to see ABK and TP on the bench though

A number of people seem to think that the person to save our season is the same person who allegedly faked a dislocated shoulder because he didn't fancy a midweek game against Nottingham Forest and then got subbed off because he didn't fancy the away game as well.

Hoping we can build on midweek - wins at Goodison are rare, pens or not - but need to get the midfield right and move the ball quicker around the pitch as Ipswich will be looking to counter-attack. If their fans jeer Flynn again it might key him up. Would a Downes-Fernandes-Lallana midfield to start be too lightweight? Question also of whether Lesley can start two games in a week.

He was saving himself for this Ipswich game.

Considering what is known but more importantly what isn’t known, how can you be confident?

It's weird though that Bree is now ahead of him in the pecking order having been behind last year

James is defensively more solid. Two decent league cup displays don’t hurt either. I thought Ryan might be better going forward with the assists at Swansea and QPR but didn’t materialise that much. Bree has looked better going forward IMHO and the humdinger at Cardiff.

WTF?!

RM managed us to a promotion, winning The Richest Game in Football™ for many fans one of the most enjoyable days following Saints they can remember.

Nathan Jones wasted the World Cup window, lost 8 of 9 PL games and was sacked after just 95 days. The cup wins against Lincoln Town, Everton plus the genuinely unbelievable match against Man City must be doing a lot of heavy lifting in your head!

Good point.  I love Dibling and wouldn't mind him starting. However I foresee RM wanting to "look after him" and avoid him being kicked to death by the tractor boys from minute one. He just turned 18 so maybe best to not start him every game yet though it's very tempting.

Everyone on here said we would struggle and guess what? Yep, you got it, we are struggling. 4 games in and the knives are out it’s pathetic.

My opinion is that we would struggle to stay in the prem. if we did we would have had an outstanding season. That has not changed.

Didn't we lose the first 4 back in the prem in 2012? And won the fifth game vs Villa.... (4-1) and started getting some momemtum

Yes RM has a lot more credit in the bank than NJ but IF we lose the next two games I believe it'll be our worst start in Premier League history. Not good PR for Russ.

I was specifically responding to this statement from Dark Helmet: "He could end up with a record even worse than Nathan Jones."

Even if he was fired after losing 10 PL games in a row he would still have a better record than the Welshman with a chip on both shoulders.

With Bournemouth and Arsenal away up next you do feel this is a huge, huge game. Get a win here and a point at Bournemouth and things won't look quite so bad.

I've ended up with 2 spares today. One is U14, one is Over 65. Chapel block next to away fans I think. Presume you can just go in, or go to ticket office to change. Face value.

Can direct message me if interested.

Cheers.

I had a premonition that Ipswich win 1-0. This rarely happens, so sadly I'm inclined to believe it.

Last time I had a vision so strongly, it was when I was expecting a parcel and just knew it'd arrive on Tuesday. And guess what? It did.

Sorry to share the bad news, but at least we can hedge it with a little bet to reduce the disappointment.

Tough game, we're both down there, win and we go above them. But they're a united club still on the crest of a wave of two successful promotion seasons and on the back of a good away point at Brighton last week. They'll fancy this one.

We need to change the way we play to get anything from this, they'll press us aggressively and no doubt we'll make the usual mistakes if we don't. If we abandon RM's favoured tactic of slow possession, particularly in and around our own box, and find a bit more urgency then we have a chance. We really need to win this one.

*one thing both clubs have in common, both lost 9-0 to Man Utd

Same formation and line-up as Man Utd with THB for Stephens.

Play as directly and at the same pace and tempo as the first 35 mins vs Man Utd, for 90 mins.

Take our chances when we get them. Don’t switch off at the back. Don't let heads go down if we do concede first. Get the ball to Dibling as much as possible. Don’t let Archer take any penalties.

Do that and we’ll be fine. 3-1 Saints and the season starts here. COYR.

That will do.  I’m backing Ramsdale’s class to provide a clean sheet, with a second half Saints winner from the sub Cornet.

Well I’d probably go with the following team today, Lallana in for the “voice” over Fernandes. Happy for Fernandes to start though as he’s class. Wonder if we might go with 1 “pivot” in Downes given it’s Ipswich. I want a LB at LB please. Don’t mind who starts RB.  Diaz playing through the middle to give us a focal point.  Wouldn’t mind seeing Cornet start either. Too many players…

Ramsdale

Suga THB Bednarek Taylor

Ugo Downes

Dibling Lallana Fraser

Diaz

I asked this question last night, whether FD-Fernandes-Lallana was too lightweight and bring Ugo on 55-60 when Lallana is done? As it’s a must-win game really, I think I’d be tempted. Yes to 🍦

Don’t mind the look of the back 4, but KWP has to play. I would actually play him further ahead on the wing. He would be much more effective than Diaz there.

Apparently we don't waste much time at goal kicks. Interestingly, Ipswich do, so I'll keep an eye out today.

Of course Man City waste the most amount of time, they are the most cynical team in the league.

I’ve got a feeling it’s sometimes quite related to whether the team is winning or losing.
if yiu measured how long any team thats winning, especially last third of match spends in goal kicks I’d wager it’s significantly longer than same for team that’s losing.

Absolute bankers today.

1.) lots of useless possession

2.) Ipswich will win to nil

3.) the so called Northam wall will be a morgue.

Do you think by any chance that 3) might in some way be related to the first two ?

Ramsdale

KWP THB Bedders Taylor

Downes Les Lallana

AA BBD Cornet

Bench: Dibling, Aribo, Stewart, Suga, Wood, McCarthy, Archer, Fraser, Fernandes

Lots to offer from an attacking bench, as this is a game we really need to be winning.

Also, because there's not a massive difference between bench and some of the starters. Positions to fight for there.

I can see this as a draw. But hopefully, Ipswich will push up allowing us to put one away. The subs will be very important.
