Not sure poor at best is really accurate. He did a very good job at Torino over a few years, with a run of a consistent, solid midtable finishes and was linked when we got rid of Ralph but was employed then.

Played a high pressing style if I recall. Plenty of top league experience unlike many of those mentioned.

Didnt go well at Roma but seemingly that waa in huge part due to the fans hating the Friedkin ownership.

Maybe doing him a bit of an injustice but doesn't feel that inspiring really. Seems like it might be a 6 month contract.

Very unlikely.

It seems to me that SR were so totally committed to Martin that they had no plans to change him so had not bothered to think about a successor. Nothing wrong with that. Doubt Man City or Arsenal have identified successors either

I’d say having no succession in mind for any business is a dereliction of duty, let alone a multi multi million pound one with intense scrutiny. So I find that hard to believe. Although with Ankersen everything is possible

Exclusive confirmed - Ivan Juric will be the new manager of #Southampton

🛫 Today he will be in England. The former #Roma coach will sign a six-month contract with an option. He is now ready to travel to UK #SaintsFC

From an Italian Journalist.

🚨 Ivan Juric WILL be the new Southampton manager — he will be in England today to sign a six-month contract with an option for an additional year #saintsfc @marcoconterio

If it’s 6 months then he’s a stop gap until next seasons Championship push so we can re-assess in the summer. In which case I’m ok with that; we’re down anyway.

Of course if by some miracle he keeps us up he’ll get extended and quite frankly he’ll deserve it along with the freedom of the city and probably a knighthood too.

To me this is they realise we are down and real choice won’t leave his current job mid season and others not interested or won’t buy into this shitshow under SR.

100% Honestly feels perfect to me.

Well done SR.

I recall looking into Juric when he was linked a couple of years ago. His football was described as heavy metal footy with a preference for 3 at the back. Sacked after just 12 games with Roma is a concern but it does seem he punched above his weight with Torino. Also seems like a character that takes no prisoners and isn’t afraid to make waves, maybe that’s the type of mindset we need for the rest of this season. Let’s hope he doesn’t fall out with everyone.

I do not work in the world of elite football, so how could I possibly know? It is still an attractive and extremely lucrative job, it would have been more attractive if be new guy had longer to turn it round.

I have nothing further to add.

That's the first test. You can tell a lot about a manager by seeing what they do with Jack Stephens when they arrive.

Can you take no prisoners when players know you only have a 6 month contract?

Not a big follower of Italian football, but am I right in saying he followed De Rossi after he got sacked, and fans never took to him because they worship De Rossi and hate the ownership? Could be thinking of someone else.

Absolute joke of a club. Can only think that Ankersen wants to pick terrible managers so he looks like he’s not the worst operator in the club. Utterly bereft at the lows we are going through. Can we have another banner at the ground with Rasmus’ name on it?

It seems as though deals to appoint coaches currently in jobs were seen as ‘too expensive’.

Gotta save their pennies to go shopping in January for everything except the striker we've needed for fucking ever.

Yes, that’s the guy.

Unable to agree terms with Rohl / SW could be a blessing in disguise if we end up with Juric, a coach I’ve always liked but didn’t think SR would be talking to. Could be just what we need for remainder of this season but the players better get used to more intense training and less love ins. Will make us a lot harder to beat.

What’s the anger at Juric based on? A bad spell at a basket case club that is Roma this season? He’s done well at Verona and Torino - clubs along relative stature to ours in England.

Played an exciting brand of football at Torino which achieved decent results. At the very least it looks like we will be going out to aggressively attack games rather than the passive sh*te we’ve had to endure so far.

This☝️

A caretaker manager was always going to be the most pragmatic approach and I'm glad they've heeded my advice (ha ha ha). As you say, we're as good as down anyway, so it ultimately didn't matter who the caretaker manager was, as the primary aim for the remainder of the season has to be to flush the Martin mentality (aka "scar tissue") out of the players before the next campaign.

And if this Juric fella is a bit of a hard taskmaster, then it's a win-win situation IMHO, as at least he'll get them fitter if all else fails.

Someone on here few days ago said that the next manager would be from split so it looks like they are spot on.

I've been there, not as nice as Dubrovnik but an interesting historical centre.

I don't know nothing about the lad, give him the remainder of the season. If he miraculously keeps us up then extend the contract for a season or two...

Tbf I do agree with you. If he's crap and we don't improve then he's gone at the end of the season and we can appoint a long term manager to get us back up. If he does improve us and we still go down then he may be worth a shot in the championship.

Certainly not exciting, but his Torino team finished 9th, 10th and 10th in the last three seasons in Serie A. Very strong defence too. Certainly not a sexy appointment, but as many of us have written this season off already, it is a low risk opportunity to see how he gets on. His record at Roma in Serie A was 3-1-4, and they've only won a game in the 8 matches they played when he wasn't the manager.     Not as bad as is being presented here.

Give the guy a chance.

No idea about Juric.

Managed decent teams in Italy so can’t be that bad?

Not according to Saints Twitter who, after watching precisely 0 of his games, have decided he’s the worst possible person for the job.

He did a pretty decent job at Torino tbf. And clearly Roma thought he was impressive enough to appoint. I think getting someone to agree to come in on a six-month arrangement was probably the ideal outcome, to be honest. Puts us in a position to make a new decision in the summer once all the factors are known without having to pay somebody off again

Know nothing about him, but seems very logical.

Defensive task master that plays counter attacking football.

Short term so we can really attack the championship properly when we go down.

All of it makes sense. The big problem was holding on to Martin for sooo long that this appoint barely makes a difference.

There is absolutely no way he can be worse than Russell Martin. The absolute worst case scenario is that he’s just as awful. In that sense, this is a 100% risk free appointment.
