Dusic Posted 16 December, 2024 Posted 16 December, 2024 Rohl would be interesting but risky move in that he hasnt achieved anything of note as a manager, so would be pretty fortunate to get a PL job (even if just for a few months). That said, at least there is some intrigue and clearly a highly rated coach. The rest are just dull. Given our position we may as well take a bit of a risk as its essentially a free pass til August anyway. 3
SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 16 December, 2024 Posted 16 December, 2024 Not quite sure why there is such a lot of hate for the idea of appointing Kasper Hjulmand. He has a pretty good record: He managed to take a weak Danish international squad to the semi-finals of the European Championship. He took a previously little-known Danish Club from obscurity to winning the Danish Superleague (not unlike the success that Graham Potter had in Scandinavia before Swansea appointed him). He has a win record of around 42% which is pretty decent. Of course, there may be concerns that he flopped outside of Denmark when managing Mainz 05, but some of the best managers are those who have had setbacks and moved on through them to learn from their mistakes (e.g. Eddie Howe). Having said all of that, I would personally love it if we could appoint Edin Terzić, former manager of Dortmund, who has just about the best stats of any manager with experience of managing in a top European league and who is currently without a job. It is probably highly unlikely that we could attract him to come and manage us, but if we could that would be a major coup! 3

The Wednesday fans hold him in very high regard and his record with that team is very good. I also seem to remember that when he left Saints matters deteriorated under Ralph? Also we are fishing in a pond where most managers know we are going to get relegated. This appointment is looking to next season and beyond as the board in their wisdom left it 6 weeks too late. No; that's a myth (seems to have become fact) made up by fans to beat Ralph with. After Rohl left, we still had the covid period and topping the PL to come. We were streaky, but we certainly didn't get worse as soon as he left. 6
OnceaSaintalwaysaSaint Posted 16 December, 2024 Posted 16 December, 2024 It was a bit of a concern to read that Ankersen was on his phone at half time and there was a flurry of director activity. Almost as if they were determined to stick with RM and then suddenly the penny dropped and they went in to overdrive making calls looking for a new manager. I do hope they've been searching for a while but with SR, I feel we have a bunch of chancers who basically 'wing it' and lurch from one crisis to the next. 4

Steve Cooper (see above). David Moyes (stop gap only). Outside of that somebody prepared to bravely fight relegation but inevitably take us down with a view to coming straight back upagain and staying up next time. Anyone other than an unknown only ever managed in lower foreign leagues type person. We really need a manager with both Prem and Championship experience now. Failing my first two choices I’d take Harry Potter or Tommy Cooper. Either would do a better job than RM has this season. While I would be delighted to get Potter, I fear there is no chance of him coming. However you are misinformed, he has managed one season in the championship (Swansea) and did not get promoted

Andrew Watson Posted 16 December, 2024 Posted 16 December, 2024 If Ankerson is involved then we are totally screwed,if we had got Shaun Dyche on board instead of Jones,we would probably not be in this mess now. Personally I hope that we go for Mark Robins, a manager who knows the championship inside out. Unfortunately no one currently at the club has the ability to make a decent call, I might opine. 1

SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 16 December, 2024 Posted 16 December, 2024 Yes - absolutely - if Ankersen is involved we might get a rubbish(?) manager like the one he installed at Brentford. Mind you, he also saw Steve Cooper gulping down a flat white in Costa's, Graham Potter wearing a faded Brighton shirt, Fat Sam scoffing down a double Whopper with cheese and large fries in Burger King, Joey Barton picking a fight with the security guard, Jose Mourinho grabbing a take-away Espresso, Gareth Southgate studying the non-fiction paperbacks in WH Smith, four unidentified Danish geezers in track-suits (they reportedly "looked like the sporty types"), Roy Hodgson doing "squats" in the car-park and, you can believe this or not, it's entirely up to you, Russell Martin "Quaffing" his hair in the Gents and telling anyone who was willing to listen, just how good he is at everything. I don't claim any ITK knowledge here, but the source does seem reliable. 6
