Bad Wolf Posted 11 October, 2024 Posted 11 October, 2024 Dull, boring, negative football Famously stubborn with his style of play Keeps picking his favourites Midtable finish at Swansea Amazing how that describes two separate managers, one of them we want to sack to make way for the other one. 1 2 1

The trouble is we are shit and as you say, not sure that we're attractive enough for someone decent to give us the lift we need.

My instinct is that whilst we remain 'in touch' with 17th place, the board won't act. Problem with that is things can move fast, and suddenly it's many points adrift. Act now and find a manager who's focus is on keeping us up, not on their flipping system. 5

Not to mention as this guy found, if you're not an ex-pro you'll find it hard even to get on the UEFA B course ... Right, Alex Clapham it is then. “RA, on the phone straight away and get him in pdq.”

Pamplemousse Posted 19 October, 2024 Posted 19 October, 2024 Unless we have significant money to spend in January (unlikely), I can see a lot of managers holding out for something better, were a vacancy to come up now. Moyes, Potter... they won't be short of offers. If we do go down (and if we do, Martin should be sacked), we may as well wait until the summer when someone of a higher calibre wanting an opportunity to manage one of the best teams in the league will come up. 1

LegalEagle Posted 20 October, 2024 Posted 20 October, 2024 We’re going down. Anyone who thinks differently is deluded. We need to prepare for next season and beyond. Lallana is a bright chap. Put him in charge for the rest of the season and see how we do. No-one is going to blame him when we go down. He can then start afresh next season with a decent squad and re-build so long as he shows something in the remainder of this season. If he doesn’t we get someone new in over the summer. It cannot possibly be any worse than we have now. 3

FarehamSaintJames Posted 20 October, 2024 Posted 20 October, 2024 Just pay out on a shit hot manager than has a fantastic rep. Give him free reign on transfer even if we end up spending stupid money. Sod it if we breach FFP, the five points deducted can be made up by the quality brought in. (On a side note I don’t get why people tip-toe around FFP, it’s absolutely broken and if you breach it be £1m or £200m then consequences are no worse, and you’d probably reap the rewards in finance by staying up). 2

Luton over performed under him, and he openly commented about how he altered his natural coaching style to get the best out of the squad who had been used to a more direct style under Jones. A coach who alters his own style to suit the players around him rather than being obsessed with a singular philosophy……..manna from heaven. 7

Convict Colony Posted 20 October, 2024 Posted 20 October, 2024 Honestly if you think about our squad and what we need to do to be more successful in this league what does that even look like ? Then what manager plays that way ?

Firstly, SR need to be clear on that their project is, and Parsons etc would need to be convincing in selling this to candidates. As far as the coach's style, I don't think SR can have a pre-empted idea as there are no football experts on the Board (The Omniscient One excepted, obvs) and our managerial appointments to date have been at pretty much each end of the spectrum. So frankly, the coach just needs to have a track record in pragmatism and a willingness to develop youth, whilst having resilient shoulders for the next 30 PL games to come. Edwards satisfies each of those, at least. 2

FarehamSaintJames Posted 20 October, 2024 Posted 20 October, 2024 I don’t think our squad is as terrible as people make out. We create more than enough chances. Defensive mishaps in concentration and organisation, as well as stupid substitutions and tactics are what’s cost us - unfortunately that is on the manager. 10

Defensive mishaps in concentration isn't a Manager thing - Bednarek has been prone to that his whole career, hence why he's never really been a Premier League quality defender. Agree that if your defence isn't PL quality then playing the ball around between them isn't a great idea (and that is on the Manager). 3

How about defending a last minute corner and leaving opponents unmarked on the edge of the box giving them a free shot resulting in 2 goals and the loss of 3 points? It is absolutely ludicrous that Martin has presided over this mistake for a second time in just a few games and says a lot about his limitations. 5
