Saint_Ash Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Decent line up, midfield looks much stronger, Dibling to shine and Archer to do well down the middle. 3-2 Saints. 1
SaintStinger Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Nice bench too. Wonder if we'll see Stewart at some point?
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Decent midfield and attack. Still way off with the defence. Russell's insistence on starting Stephens will cost us. How is he a better option than THB? Joke. 3

Wade Garrett Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Fair play to the manager. Personally, would have dropped Stephens. Surely has to be 4-2-3-1.
Colinjb Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Ditches the five at the back..... starts Stephens ahead of THB. We cannot have nice things can we?

Our fourth game back up, THB hasn’t been playing well and we’ve gone back to a back four. I think he wanted more known experience in there to start with, THB will get more chances. 6

It beggars belief that anyone who's watched is can't understand why he's dropped an out of form CB and kept faith on someone who's played better. It's not complicated. The change of system is long overdue, and with big Lesley in there, you'd hope that Stephens won't be asked to pretend he's a midfielder. 13
BARCELONASAINT Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 If we don't get anything from this game or at least be 100% more competitive we cannot really blame RM because he's put our strongest side out there (Stephens aside maybe) It's for the players that have the shirt today to prove they desrve it! 2
FarehamSaintJames Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Ross Stewart is alive? I think that’s the real headline this weekend. 1

I was being more then a little sarcastic. Although, saying he's played better....... It's not exactly a glowing reference. I would have more confidence in THB.

Smallbone goes from starting to completely out of the squad. He played two full games for Ireland - maybe that is part of the reasoning? The write up I saw suggested he was Ireland's best player in the second one (but that they were crap) 1
Midfield_General Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 (edited) United starting Eriksen and Fernandes together in midfield with Mainoo means they don't really have a recognised DM. That's a midfield that can be bullied if we get it right. Fuck 'em up Big Les. Rashford starting over Garnacho is an interesting one. And no Casemiro. United fans not happy at all with their line-up. Can just about make a case for Shoehorn starting ahead of THB who has looked a bit shaky lately despite being an infinitely more talented player
Suhari Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Looking at the line up and bench today - we've surely got enough quality to stay in the division this year. Or am I being too optimistic? 1
OttawaSaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Will Smallbone didn't even make the bench. That's gotta hurt.

WGC Saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 With the exception of THB over Stephens I like that line up. Good to see Dibling getting a start. Would love to see him score today. COYS.
Dusic Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Ridiculous amount of players not even making the squad, especially in defensive positions: Lumley, Bree, Edwards, Wood, Larios, Manning, Smallbone, Sam Amo, Kamaldeen, Onuachu
The Cat Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Team sheet is a lie because he can't adapt and is wedded to one system 1 4
Saint Billy Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 That's a much better lineup, let's hope it pays dividends.

Sheaf Saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Well BBC Sport has us down as playing 3-5-2 but the lineup suggests otherwise. Stephens obviously kept in due to his ability to wind up BF. Really excited to see what that midfield can do. Dammit I'm actually excited and cautiously optimistic now. Wonder how long it will take for them to rinse that out of me! 2
Tommy Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Playing against Erickson in midfield, I’m expecting us to play right through them. They’ve got a guy who died up against a very mobile midfield that we are playing. 1

Badger Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Looks a fairly brave and attacking selection. Well done RM for ringing the changes, certainly can’t fault it too much after previous performances. Possbly over ambitious with too many inexperienced players coming in at once, but on an individual basis most deserve their chance. 1
Turkish Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Brave line up so good on Russ. Pleased Dibbing is starting, also see what Lesley and Fernandes are all about. Good time to play United but still got players who can hurt us.
Badger Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Stewart on bench. Perhaps he’ll get a 15 minute cameo at the end. Long enough to pick up an injury.
Saint_clark Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Did I just hear that right from crouchy? Martin said this week that he was given FIVE YEARS to get us back to the premier league?

No. He said he got to the PL from L2 in 5 years by sticking to his principles so not about to change away from it now he is there.
Convict Colony Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Lets not forget out of all the CBs last game THB had the worst game, played some shocking stuff so in my view rightly dropped, think he is better in a 4 but i guess stephens and bednerak currently ahead of him, he will come back in eventually 1
Suhari Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Right Saints. Give me a decent hangover cure and cook it up.
V.Johnathan.Wilson Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Why does the Graphic say we are 4-4-2? Aren't we 4-3-3?

AlexLaw76 Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Without the 3rd CB we are evidently spending less time passing the ball around aimlessly at the back.... Shock. Horror! 1
