40 minutes of "if we play like that for the rest of the season we'll be fine"

Concede on half time. Drab second half. Chaotic substitions. Dibling sparkles for 10 minutes.

Lose 0-3.

62% possession, so really a win if you think about it.

An evening of "how dare anyone we think we should sack the manager just because we lost to the richest biggest club in the world, you bedwetters are a disgrace" on this forum.

Holy shit!

Wasn’t Martin a defender? Why can’t he sort our defence?

Because the players aren’t good enough.

THB guilty of playing their man onside for their third. I just don’t believe in this Manager anymore unfortunately. I wanted him and his system to work, but it’s not nearly enough whether we go down or not. Oh, and I just hate reading that we’ve another record in a shit way.

It's really too bad....

But here are the straws I clutch.

- The first 30 minutes showed how competitive we can be in the Premier League.  We absolutely should have been 1-up.  With that level of talent, I don't believe we're a relegation side

- Dibling is incredible.

- Martin and or Ramsdale seem to have adjusted the rules about playing out. We now have license to clear long when essential.

- Finally, ironically, Stephens red card will force us a game or two w/o him. I think we'll be better for it.

Huge game a-coming against Ipswich...

Where does a goal come from? Let alone a point. I really don’t think it’s hyperbole to suggest the Derby record is at threat.

If we get to 10 games and only have 1 or 2 points then I agree. But too early to talk about that record.

Just great to be in this league playing team like Man United in the English premier soccerball league!

True delight to watch United play.

Seriously though, if. hear one more moron refer to them as "united", I'll lose the plot - I moaned at someone at work this week and came back with the old Cambridge, Newcastle, West Ham (etc) comment.

And that was a load of crap, gulf in spending power shows, but I would at least expect a competent Saints team to attempt some shots on target. This lot look WAY off the pace compared to Nigel Adkin's Saints that came up with Lambert scoring against Man United and Man City early in the season. Piss poor.

Well that was a fucking waste of my time 😅

In all seriousness, some excellent play before the penalty. Afterwards, not so much.

Simple errors- lots of instances of one player playing the Man Utd attack offside.

Stephens, Sugawara, Harwood-Bellis all guilty of it.

RM has to go.

We have to be solid defensively - we aren't

We have to show guts, fighting spirit, and guile - we don't

You need to know who your penalty taker is before the game (0 penalties Archer or 7/7 BBD) - he doesn't

You need to pick the best players and not your boyfriends - he doesn't

You need to not get all bitchy and prickly with the media and come across as a stubborn arrogant twat - he doesn't

Oh dear. One main reason why we've not chased this has presumably been to keep some shape. Excpet we've seen how easily we get outthought defensivley. That was the cse for that third. It could easily have come earlier.

I've seen 2 attempts at decent passing moves from us at pace in the second half. Neither ended up creating a chance. Beyond that, we were happy to sit off at 2-0 down and somehow hope they would dangerously over-commit. Instead, they had all the space, all the attack and all the chances.

Changes the faces added no changes to that. Stephens red card just meant there was one less person to get in a late block.

I guess Martin will look at the good start that the comments say we had. That we have to take our chances, and then look to being at 10 men when the thrid went in.

He has to do that. Because we are not set up to fight, or take risks when conceding.

Studio saying he will not change, and saying much the same as above. Looking for changes in personnel within the same system.

Looking at highlights....

Dibling taking spot of Tella.

Not a strong penalty.

Martin will point out that's another set piece we've conceded from. Did our set piece guy leave?

Stephens playing everyone onside. By a mile. Deserved red card too. THB letting everyone onside for the third, by a country mile too.

Yeah that Adkins team started with similar issues at the back, suicidal defending (Hoovield in particular), but had some real talent going forward and could score goals. It was an easy fix.

This is a clusterfuck.

To not have any shot on goal for the whole of the 2nd half makes me wonder where on earth a point is going to come from. ManU didn't even have to get out of 2nd gear after they scored their second. Saints couldn't lay a glove on them and that is a worry. If I were the owner I'd be canvassing replacements for RM.

4 games in

8 goals conceded

1 Goal scored

No doubt we have the best possession / pass completion in the league, which seems to be what we are happy with.

I really question the decision makers at this club.  It’s blatantly obvious to most people where our significant weaknesses are & have been for a very long time!.  We will not survive with our options of CB’s (maybe only ABk)

Our coaches clearly do not know what to do in the final 3rd - clueless

Frustratingly, we are only a few changes away from a decent side in this league.

FT thank goodness.

Generally expect to lose against Utd and their vast resources.

Next 3 vital to pick up 6 points or more.

6 points...! Absolutely no chance,  Ipswich, Bournemouth and Arsenal, how are we getting 6 points out of that?  2 at most, if we are lucky.

Can we apply for an extension? A petition or something??

It's so wrong that I'm genuinely delighted to have one of our players sent off and banned

I cheered in the Dorchester FC bar, got some right weird looks.

How many points to stay up ?

36 would probably require at least 9 wins in 34 games, and I fear we will get nothing from Man City, Liverpool, or Arsenal, so that would require 9 wins and 9 draws from 28 matches.

Stay up?!!

I just want to win a game at this stage...

What a different story that could have been if we'd scored that penalty!

You just knew that was going to be a huge turning point - and it's incredible how much confidence it gave them and sucked out of us. We didn't have a shot after that. Second half disappointing,

Positives?

No complaints about RM's set-up with the exception of Stephens inclusion instead of someone like ABK (what on earth is going on there?) First 30 minutes we looked really good and if we play like that I think we will be better than at least three other teams this season. RM will now be forced to not play Stephens (at last) for is it two or three matches for a straight red?

Dibling special as we knew. Ross Stewart back - think he will add something if he can stay fit (he doubled his total minutes played today right?) Aron Ramsey a huge upgrade in goal.

Young midfield did well.

I feel for Archer - think there's a good striker in there and hope he can shake it off quickly. It wasn't a great penalty. I feel a bit of r RM today - didn't get any luck or reward for making the right changes.

I don't get Brerton Diaz - a big unit, not fast, but we play him wide like a winger - gets isolated and disappears completely in games.

Frustrating to concede a third but in the bigger scheme of things our season begins now. Write these four games off. Let's go on a 25-game unbeaten run from here!

We will stay up this season.

Seen enough of BBD these 4 games to say he's no good and needs to go.

Thought Archer was poor (aside from the pen miss). Should give him more time.

Feel privaleged to see Stewart on the pitch. League one to premiership in 3 seasons ... not sure how he'll shape up, I'm not confident.

Guess Coronet gets a start next.

So still lacking a consistent ruthless striker.

As many have said, Dibling was impressive. Flynn bossed it, Ramsdale limited the damage and the rest were average to poor.

I thought lesley looked good before he got tired. Second half was like it usually is when things aren't working. Meandering and nothingy.

good 30 mins, then it was woeful.

Martin must be replaced I am afraid

It's not #Martino, it's the players aren't good enough unfortunately. Gulf between PL and Championship is too big now unless you have some half decent players to start with.

Downes hasn't looked like a PL player, yet he was miles too good for the Championship. I think in Baseball they call it a "quad-A" player.
