hypochondriac Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 I don't think we have been that terrible defensively to be honest. It's the other end where the problem lies. We haven't tested the keeper other than Dibling once. Depressing. 2
Challenger Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 First four games of the season. Start well, not take any chances Conceed Less effective as game progresses / few if any chances No points 2

Galway saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 This has been pretty depressing stuff since the penalty Ignoring the league cup, we have so far scored two goals in six games, if you include the two spanish games. We look toothless up front ( haven’t had a shot since the penalty) and likely to concede at least one or two every match, so it’s looking pretty bleak. Not sure there is much more Martin can do as the side was set up as most people wanted but a number of the players just aren’t good enough 1
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 'tator 14 touches in opponent pen area in the first half. 2 in the second. Worse possession. Worse shots and shots on target by a far bit. Really not capable of getting back into a game. Which, combined with us setting up to always concede at least one, is not a good sign. Like AA, Martin will no doubt pint out that we have to be clinical with the chances we get.
SNSUN Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 I quite like Russ and Saints we’re always in for a hiding this season and likely relegation candidates but after 4 straight losses you have to start thinking about how long the board will tolerate him. Yes Burnley and Luton stood by their managers last season but I don’t think that will happen with us this season. A few more bad results and he’ll be gone. Luckily for him we have Everton, Ipswich and Bournemouth next. Anything less than 6 points and he’s in trouble.

Lee On Solent Saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Can imagine what the post match interview will be like. Will be no mention of the inept performance, Martin will just focus on how unlucky Stephens was to be sent off. 1

obelisk Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Saints get into a good attacking area outside the Utd penalty area and then the ball goes back and back and back until it's given away with Utd having a shot on goal. That's hopeless. 2

Holmes_and_Watson Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Gosh! We nearly had a chance for Fraser or KWP to get a cross in. So glad it's gone all the way back to Ramsdale. 1

Saint_clark Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Genuinely think we might break Derbys record. Only because we have committed to Martin so we won't drop him till things get desperate in march time.

Sheaf Saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Normally when a team goes down to ten you see them retreat into a defensive shape to deal with an onslaught from the other team. But Utd seem happy to just let us have the ball and knock it around, safe in the knowledge we won't do anything constructive with it.
BotleySaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Just now, obelisk said: This could easily have approached 0-9. Let's not be silly here. 4-0 would be fairer. Utd have sat back for most of the second half.
obelisk Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 400th defeat in the EPL for Saints. Open the bubbly. 2
Saint_clark Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 This is our 400th premier League defeat, another record broken by Martin.
hypochondriac Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Genuinely could have been 4 or 5 and we never looked like scoring.
OttawaSaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 We need a much better mentality. We can't be a team that concedes and then just quits, because that's what it looks like. We haven't shown an ounce of fight, spirit, or belief since the penalty miss. 3

Sugawara and Dibling our best today. Les Ugo and Downes both good.
Saint_clark Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 (edited) We've defended really well since Stephens got sent off. Edit; lol that timing. Edited 14 September, 2024 by Saint_clark
WGC Saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 I can actually see us finishing bottom and setting a new record for lowest points, most goals conceded and fewest scored! 1
Saint NL Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 We are such a pushover that they've chucked on Casemiro to rebuild his confidence. Absolute piss take.

sandwichsaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Another one for the goal difference.
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 A limping Harry maguire, 250 year old Johnny Evans and Casemiro who they subbed recently for being a liability. Absolutely no pressure on any of them from us.
obelisk Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 RM will be quite happy with 0-3 I suspect.
Saint_clark Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Need to do a lot of work on defending as a unit. We are so disorganised at the back.
SouSaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 RM is out of his depth at this level I'm afraid. As are the owners. Embarrassing season ahead. 3
OttawaSaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 THB played them onside there. Basic basic stuff. Worrying. 1
washsaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 If that were STephens and not THB, he would be getting pelters. Terrible defending playing him on like that. This side has no fight and no attacking threat.

An evening of "how dare anyone we think we should sack the manager just because we lost to the richest biggest club in the world, you bedwetters are a disgrace" on this forum. Nailed it. 1 1
