BotleySaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 The two teams operate on a different budget. We've spent a reasonable amount, but Utd sign one player for £40m+. We quite rightly should be nowhere near them.

Unfortunately, could not agree more. When an 18 year old kid is our best player by a country mile we have real issues (no matter how good Dibling is). We look bereft of ideas up front (DIbling aside) and ARcher is like a little boy lost (yet another panic signing: clearly not good enough). BBD has been hopeless and KWP is showing why no decent side was in for him. Game over - no way Saints score 1 let alone 2. 2

Tyler Dibling being good isn't a negative indicator for the rest of the team.
trousers Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 (edited) At the game. Decent approach play from us but too open at the back. Ramsdale frustratingly gesticulating at the manager every time we fail to close them down on the edge of the box. Would be another 2 or 3 down if it wasn't for a few superb saves from Ramsdale. (Although thought he could've come out to punch the ball for their first...? but was probably relying on our defenders to do their job though?) Wouldn't surprise me if we reverted to 3 at the back second half Dibling superb. Edited 14 September, 2024 by trousers
sandwichsaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Ramsdale v good, would be 6 by now with Baz. Dont know what JS was doing with that corner. Archer poor, BBD no end product. Downes, Les, Fernades, Dibling all good enough for this league. One magic moment from KWP but again we look completely open down the left when they break. Neither CB good enough, might as well play THB and Ronnie Pickering next week.

obelisk Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Saints slightly more direct in attack but still over-passing and missing runs off the back of Utd's defence. Doesn't help if missing with a free shot from 12 yards out though.

We very obviously can score at least one goal; it won’t be easy but we’ve played well enough generally to still have a chance of getting something, however unlikely.
OttawaSaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Despite all our possession 4 shots on target and 2 of those were the weak pen and subsequent weak header follow up.
Bewildered Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 May as well get Stewart on, even if he had to hobble around on crutches, he couldn't have worse movement than Archer.

All a bit depressing really, but tbh we all knew that in all likelihood we were going to struggle badly and so it’s turning out.
Lee On Solent Saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 I don't give a shit what ABK has done in the past, he's our best centre half and needs to start. 4

We’ll look good for the first 30 minutes of every game while the opposition sit back and wait for us to shoot ourselves in the foot. As soon as we threatened, MU upped their game and took control of the game with ease.

badgerx16 Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Stephens has over 120 PL appearances, Bednsrek over 150. How ?
OttawaSaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 I gave Bednarek a pass because he did well in the champ but for him to still be in there, after all that Yanny stuff when he came back from Villa, the comical own goal vs Wolves and then all his comedy defending that saw us relegated. Madness.
BotleySaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Wide open down the flank. Starting this half like we've already lost. Need defensive changes.
FarehamSaintJames Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 The fact that Tyler Dibling is out brightest spark says a lot about the ability of the rest of the attacking players. TNT absolutely creaming at the fact £300K p/w Marcus Rashford scored a whole goal. The United love in is cringeworthy.
LGTL Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Fuck me playing Stephens at this level is just suicide. Forget it, relegate us now if he’s first choice. Pointless discussing anything else at this point really. 2

Saint_clark Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Who was talking earlier about commentators mentioning United records to be broken? Just said they've never lost after being up by 2 or more goals away from home. 5-2 win incoming!
Sheaf Saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Another giveaway from Stephens leads to a Utd chance.
RedArmy Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Ramsdale is probably wishing he stayed on Arsenals bench.
OttawaSaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 We're not at the races in this 2nd half. RM is sticking on 2-0.
LGTL Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Would be 5 without Ramsdale. Poor bloke wondering what the fuck he’s done

SteveGc Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Just logged in here Gold Coast Aus, same as usual ? have we given goals away again.
Saint NL Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Andy Townsend keeps saying we're "lightweight". It's not wrong, technically we're very good, but defensively we're wide open and we offer no threat at goal.
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Creating chances a problem there, with BBD playing into noone. Other than that, holding onto the ball a problem, against a team already 2-0 up.

OttawaSaint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Dibling best player by a mile (honorable mention to Ramsdale). I don't like BBD at all. He's beyond terrible. 3

SNSUN Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Ladbrokes have us at 45 to 1 to win. Cheeky thousand stuck on. #blindoptimism 2
AlexLaw76 Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 BBD offers nothing what so ever...to attack or defence
Saint_clark Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 If I looked at the bench now and saw Alcaraz, Onuachu and Sulemana i'd see players there that offer something different to change it. As it is all I see is more of the same with less individual ability. 2 1

Farmer Saint Posted 14 September, 2024 Posted 14 September, 2024 Considering this team, player for player, is markedly better than last year, I think Martin did an outstanding job getting us promoted last year.
