It is true he also went off at the same time as Fernandes. I thought he was later.

I had been thinking of a more gradual change, with it being Downes, Will, Fernandes Or Downes, Fernandes, Aribo with Les off the bench.

I think we need to start playing the two of them straight away as they are clearly an upgrade on Aribo and Smallbone.  Ok, the opposition was lower level tonight but they both oozed class and should work well with Downes.

You're a legend, thank you.

Some really good passing, movement and finishing in amongst that lot. Get SAA and Fernandes in the team right away.

... removes post about getting Ramsdale to bed in at the club before offering first team competition. 🙂

That game was nuts, can't really base much of an opinion on it as it was so disjointed - proper enjoyable watch though, like an old school jumpers for goalposts type game. Good entertainment on a Wednesday night!

I really like SAA and Dibling, I think they can both play such a big role this year (Dibling more so, he's so strong - you can't get the ball off him). He's got Grealish vibes.

Edozie was the same though, he's being left behind by players so much younger than him. He has all the gear but no idea is how i'd describe him. It's really time for him to step up now, but he never seems to change or get better.

But yeah, nuts. Great watch.

I feel for Edozie, he had picked up some real form at the back end of 2023, then he gets crocked by that horror tackle by Jack Stacey at Norwich and his form seems to have fallen off a cliff ever since.

I'm surprised no-one else has picked up on that to be honest... ;)

Must be those shinpads, or lack of.

But generally, the way he moves with the ball and how he drives forward is very Grealish in style. Looks a bit stronger though.

Edwards had a really tricky night, poor lad. So did Lesley, at times.

Big Les certainly did look tricky tonight. All his touches this evening by the look of it. May well have played himself into the starting 11 at Brentford.

First off the MVP of the game goes to @Master Bates for sharing all the goals inc the cardiff worldie, thanks amigo really appreciated it.

Fernandes looks immense, young guys did well, big les should start with downes and Matty F infront, like the finishing from Archer as well.

Interesting decisions ahead for wingers and fitting dibbling off the bench, glad ABK sounded good tonight as he could be a starter ahead of any of our current CBs purely based on talent, needs to get attitude aligned.

yes they were ONLY a Championship side, but both teams introduced new names and gave debuts so that

the performance can be seen as a good result. Individual stand-out moments;

Joe Ledley got an outing ..was unlucky with the first two goals for different reasons, and in contrast  to McCarthy wasn't afraid

to use his feet and came so far out on occasions I thought he might go for a shot on goal.

James Bree, not a KWP but did a steady job and scored a remarkable goal, and If we have to wait another two years to see another

it will be worth the wait.  Wood and Edwards showed a lack of coordination at times, but also CDAJFU at sometime in the future.

and Charlie Taylor showed his experience in a one-off captain's role.

Lesley UGO showed up and used his physique well,  Dibling is improving with every game and makes a real nuisance of himself

to defenders and gets "the treatment " he will have to learn to accept.  Sam A-A looked good , but Sam E . just can't seem to get it right.

Fernandes did well and scored a nice goal, looks a very good,  and Cam Archer ... did what strikers are supposed to ...TWICE.

Nostalgic return for Lallana and now  the wait for another trip to Goodison Park in the next round.

My quick take from the game, first half we played some bright fluid moving football, still too much sideways and backward passing.I know it tries to open spaces but just the right option with a bit of risk will quite often do the same trick. Dibbling ,theres a player in the making there, confident to receive the ball in tight areas, although towards the 75th minute or so just became a bit lost ,till Lallana came on and gave the youngsters some confidence coaching. Ugochukwu looks a good prospect and quite strong, but the one player that still baffles and dosent seem able to inspire is Edozie. Seems to lack the final pass in promising scenarios, jurys still out on him (imo),theres still time though.Archer has some pace about him and with the right service could be a great option, but needs to play regularly to bed in and not just 20 minute cameos again(imo). All in all fairly pleaseing to watch appart from the endless at times passing for the sake of a pass, still in development ...........COYS.

Interesting game, good to get the win. Some of the attacking play was sublime, yes Cardiff were shit but even so, it does look promising in that area.

Now on to the areas for concern:

Lumley - he showed why Martin was 100% correct to recall McCarthy when Bazunu got injured.

Wood and Edwards were poor but not too concerned, it's very unlikely they'd both play together in the league. If they were playing alongside Bednarek/Stephens/THB they'd be fine, and we looked more composed when ABK came on so think they just need someone more experienced with them.

This was fun to watch, riddled with errors but momnets of sheer brilliance from both sides as well. What an advert for football.

Many players getting their first serious outing this season so rustiness was to be expected but on the whole Saints did well. Obviously these players were determined to show their best sides to RM in the hope of breaking through to the first team, some really caught the eye and some first team regulars will not be sitting comfortably this morning. Healthy competition at last all over the pitch.

If we can hold on this season without relegation then our future is beginning to look much brighter.

A little harsh on Lumley. Yes, he made the one glaring error but he also made a very good save to keep us level after Wood screwed up - had that gone in we might well have lost the game.

Blimey, no wonder we let in three with Joe Ledley in goal.

Back home after a highly enjoyable trip. Whilst the purist would (rightly) think this was a poor game with far too many mistakes, for sheer entertainment it was an absolute bargain. Great goals and a good opportunity to see some of our new additions and lesser-spotted squad members. There is little I can add to all the comments already posted but I shall tell you of a conversation I had with the hotel receptionist. It helps if you say his words with a Welsh accent.

"I see you have booked in for just the one person. Is that correct?"

"Oh yes"

"Pity. Tell you what, I'll put you in a double in case you pull."

"Thank you but that is unlikely at my age"

"Well, you never know ... after all, this is Cardiff"

I read some comments RM made about their player Colwill who scored the wonder goal and played really well last night. He knows him from when he managed Swansea and said he's a very talented player who does lots of good things but needs to get himself regularly starting at Cardiff for now and will then be possibly ready to step up to a higher level. Wouldn't have minded us putting a cheeky bid for him and then loaning him out - he's 22 I think and looks quite similar in style to Dibbling from his skills videos.

Which hotel was that? Might be worth making a note for the future.

I suppose having a walking stick meant that I wasn’t even considered.

Only saw the second half, but was a decent game for this stage of the competition. Pleased for Bree that he got a goal, and hopefully this may fire Archer into a goal scoring run. Lallana looked a class above everyone else on the pitch imo.

Agree what you said about AL. He looked so composed and some penetrating passes from him.
