If you're wondering why the fee is £18m with the rest built in as bonuses...

Ha, that's quite amusing 😂

It looks like it’s £18m if we go down, and £25m if we stay up.

Arsenal have a sell-on clause but you’d assume we’d be able to make that money back quite comfortably, on the assumption he’s dropped his wage a little.

Beyond thrilled with this. A real statement signing and the experience and confidence he'll give the defence and the dressing room as a whole will be immense. Apparently a really good guy. Well worth every penny

£25m fee agreed between Arsenal and Saints for a permanent deal

The COT called it two and a bit weeks ago - issue hasn't been fee, it's been convincing the player of the move (as you would moving from Arsenal number 1 to a relegation favourite). Has a very favourable release clause if we get relegated though.

Wow. That's a proper signing.

I couldn't give a monkeys what the fee is, as long as it's affordable and within our FFP cap, all is good.

the sort of signing we were crying out for for years. Quality, proven player in a key position. Going for quality rather than gambling in key positions has to be the way forward.

Delighted with this signing. Had thought a permanent move wasn't on because of his wages. Could have fiddled that on loan but  can't think how we've got round it long term.

If he's taken a pay cut to be able to play, then good for him

Ramsdale is a great signing and gives us renewed hope, let's hope it's paired with a proven striker there's no point in keeping clean sheets if we can't score😂, at least he knows he will be a busy keeper here and not a bench warmer

Yeah, and seemingly goes against Russ's "we won't break the wage structure" declaration yesterday. Unless, as you say, he's taken a significant pay cut.

Also, fair fucks to Ramsdale for getting out of the cushty #2 gig at Arsenal on big money and coming to Saints to scrap it out. Respect

Ramsdale

Sugawara THB bednarek kwp

Is really a defence that shouldn't be relegated.

Main problem is how we sort out the many midfielders and strikers we have to the degree that we can actually score goals.

I would add to that:

                  Ramsdale

Sugawara THB Bednarek KWP

                     Les    Downes

That's actually starting look pretty solid

Not sure big Les has actually shown anything as yet. Hopefully him and Downes are the answer. Fernandes looking good tonight though. A lot will hinge on the likes of Archer, Armstrong, BBD and whoever else we bring in. Need them to be decent.

This surely has to change how we play. Ramsdale is much more comfortable making an early, long, crisp pass to a wide man, but less so with short passes at the back. We surely can’t spend 25 million on a keeper, play to his weaker skillset, and outlaw his stronger skillset.

Can we Russ?

That's huge. Could be our number one for 10 years.

He could be. But I suspect whether we stay up or go down he'll have his suitors next summer.

Maybe, but we won't be selling for a loss. Not many are going to pay more than £25million for a keeper who is realistically only good enough to be first choice for 15 out of the 20 Prem teams.
