We would have lost without Ramsdale today.. but he is going to give away a lot of balls in our final third this season if Russball continues. You'll do well to find an affordable keeper who is very good with the ball at his feet and someone who is a very good shot stopper. You're looking at the beat keepers in the world like Allison and Ederson etc. The fact we have one who is a very good shot stopper and is ok with the ball at his feet is the best we can hope for. 1

The alternative on our books is one that is good with the ball at his feet but barely makes a save. Or one that is shit with the ball at his feet and barely makes any saves.
hypochondriac Posted 21 September, 2024 Posted 21 September, 2024 Ramsdale is so good. It's almost embarrassing that we have at least half a team who are vastly inferior to his ability. 6

Swap Ramsdale for the best ball playing keeper in the world, and play Russball. The result would still be the same.
bpsaint Posted 21 September, 2024 Posted 21 September, 2024 It’s such a shame that we finally have our best keeper probably since Boruc, and we’ll end up losing him after one season as the rest of the team is so shit. 7

We’ll be in the Championship next season and we’ve already proven you can get promoted from there with a keeper who doesn’t make many saves 😎

Every kick went to a team mate. The goal we conceded Shilton couldn't have got near. Let's revisit this in December when we've worked out Ramsdale is good, sure, but not great and nowhere near the messiah he was made out to be in the run up to signing him.

The big advantage ramsdale has is that people will overlook the above regardless, and he won't be blamed for every goal like baz was. That's huge for a position that relies on confidence. 2 3
East Kent Saint Posted 22 September, 2024 Posted 22 September, 2024 Ramsdale looks good , you don't get that bad vibe I used to get with Forster or Baz if the opposition were attacking 😀 4

trousers Posted 30 October, 2024 Posted 30 October, 2024 (edited) Seems a tad shaky / inconsistent of late...? A keeper who perhaps isn't as good as we initially thought, or another player who seems to regress after a few weeks/months at Saints...? (See also: Sugawara) Edited 30 October, 2024 by trousers
FarehamSaintJames Posted 30 October, 2024 Posted 30 October, 2024 I think any of us would look shaky in goal if we had the shitshow of a defence in front of us. I’d argue he’s kept the score down more than if say Bazunu or McCarthy were in goal. 5
goodymatt Posted 30 October, 2024 Posted 30 October, 2024 In general he’s not made any howlers. Got his hand to a couple such as the Ayew winner that would have been nice if he could have kept out but he sees it so late. His error that was cleared of the line last night was the first big mistake, fortunately Suguwara bailed him out. He is still well clear of our other keepers, big upgrade. Understat reckons we have conceded 3.53 goals less than expected. Baz conceded 14.7 goals more than expected over a full season. 8

Lighthouse Posted 30 October, 2024 Posted 30 October, 2024 He’s had a few moments Bazunu would have been crucified for; Leicester’s winner, Man City’s goal, Bournemouth’s third, last nights error that lead to the goal line clearance. I think playing for us after Arsenal has just knocked his confidence a bit, hopefully it’s just a temporary blip and he finds his mojo soon. 2

sledger Posted 30 October, 2024 Posted 30 October, 2024 good shot stopper iffy commanding his 6 yard box where our central defenders are weak on set pieces
Matty's Caddy Posted 31 October, 2024 Posted 31 October, 2024 Ramsdale is far beyond what any team like ours could expect. enjoy him while he’s here. 6

Saint86 Posted 2 November, 2024 Posted 2 November, 2024 He's going to be a proper crowd favourite if he sticks around. Came here just to play, and his stated ambition is to keep us up and try and re-establish us in the prem. Hard not to like someone prepared to do that for us, as opposed to sit on the bench at a big club earning a packet and winning trophies. 16

Pamplemousse Posted 3 November, 2024 Posted 3 November, 2024 I don't think he's been that great this season but today he was phenomenal. Bazunu in goal and we lose that game, having a top keeper will make all the difference. 2

With Baz most weeks you’d look at a goal conceded and think he should have got to it. 1
