If Baz had saved it it would be branded "A save any keeper should make"

By some morons who don't know an excellent save when they see one, maybe.

But we'll never know, because I've never actually seen Baz pull off a save like that.

if Russell continues to have us play this style of football, we are going to have to take the good with the bad with Ramsdale.

great ball stopper, but not great with his feet.

We would have lost without Ramsdale today.. but he is going to give away a lot of balls in our final third this season if Russball continues.

You'll do well to find an affordable keeper who is very good with the ball at his feet and someone who is a very good shot stopper. You're looking at the beat keepers in the world like Allison and Ederson etc. The fact we have one who is a very good shot stopper and is ok with the ball at his feet is the best we can hope for.

The alternative on our books is one that is good with the ball at his feet but barely makes a save. Or one that is shit with the ball at his feet and barely makes any saves.

He was fvcking terrible today. Kicking was appalling. And though the goal wasn't his fault, if Bazunu had conceded that he'd absolutely be blamed for it.

That's a 'looking for a reaction post' if I've ever seen one.

Swap Ramsdale for the best ball playing keeper in the world, and play Russball. The result would still be the same.

It’s such a shame that we finally have our best keeper probably since Boruc, and we’ll end up losing him after one season as the rest of the team is so shit.

We’ll be in the Championship next season and we’ve already proven you can get promoted from there with a keeper who doesn’t make many saves 😎

It would be very unusual to win the lottery twice....

I see your ability for making things up hasn’t diminished.

Okay sorry. He was 10/10. Every kick went to a team mate. The goal we conceded Shilton couldn't have got near.

Let's revisit this in December when we've worked out Ramsdale is good, sure, but not great and nowhere near the messiah he was made out to be in the run up to signing him.

I know you struggle with nuance but seriously pal, stop being so silly.

If Bazunu had had that exact game today he'd be lynched. Ramsdale was perfect though. Kicking was spot on...

If Bazunun had had that exact game we would be amazed that he had managed to make the saves.

It's a myth that baz can't make good saves

And he is far better at passing.

The big advantage ramsdale has is that people will overlook the above regardless, and he won't be blamed for every goal like baz was.  That's huge for a position that relies on confidence.

As always when pulling up Baz-stats you've got to scroll down.

  • 1 month later...

Seems a tad shaky / inconsistent of late...? A keeper who perhaps isn't as good as we initially thought, or another player who seems to regress after a few weeks/months at Saints...? (See also: Sugawara)

In general he’s not made any howlers. Got his hand to a couple such as the Ayew winner that would have been nice if he could have kept out but he sees it so late.

His error that was cleared of the line last night was the first big mistake, fortunately Suguwara bailed him out.

He is still well clear of our other keepers, big upgrade. Understat reckons we have conceded 3.53 goals less than expected. Baz conceded 14.7 goals more than expected over a full season.

He’s had a few moments Bazunu would have been crucified for; Leicester’s winner, Man City’s goal, Bournemouth’s third, last nights error that lead to the goal line clearance. I think playing for us after Arsenal has just knocked his confidence a bit, hopefully it’s just a temporary blip and he finds his mojo soon.

I felt he was played last night instead of McCarthy to get a confidence boosting clean sheet. That went well.

He's going to be a proper crowd favourite if he sticks around. Came here just to play, and his stated ambition is to keep us up and try and re-establish us in the prem. Hard not to like someone prepared to do that for us, as opposed to sit on the bench at a big club earning a packet and winning trophies.

yes - fantastic save at the foot of the post

Be interesting to see at the end of the season how many points he wins us. Didn’t they say a good keeper is worth 12-15 a season?

At our current ratio he’s going to have to earn us every single point we win.

If Ramsdale gets us 12 points, how many are the rest of the team going to get us, because right now we will struggle to get much past 15 - 20 points.

Touch and go if we can beat the Derby record then. Let’s hope he’s a bit shitter than he has been

This was a fantastic save as well. How we've missed a shot stopper of his ability... And we're talking years, probably since niemi bar foresters brief "wall" stint.

I don't think he's been that great this season but today he was phenomenal. Bazunu in goal and we lose that game, having a top keeper will make all the difference.

He’s miles better than Bazunu. We’ve conceded a lot of goals but I can’t say there’s been many where I’ve thought he should have done better, maybe one or two. With Baz most weeks you’d look at a goal conceded and think he should have got to it.
