Nathan Jones' Charlton go 2-0 up away against fellow promotion contenders Wycombe to put themselves* 2 points off the League One automatics with 6 points left to play for.

Fair play to him, they were rubbish when he took over and he has turned them around.

He's an absolute knob obviously, but credit where it's due.

(*assuming they go on and win it)

We have hardly started winning but the occasional goal has been scored and that's more than can be said for Leicester. We still need another point to swerve Derby County's record and Leicester seems the best bet from our remaining games.

They'd be below us if it wasn't for Steve Cooper

Hopefully Burnley join them later. As funny as another Leeds fuck up would have been, I’m glad they won’t be in the league next season.

I would have assumed financially they would be in dire need to sell players if they didn’t go up.

I was thinking the same. Leeds are down one season longer than the blades. I see the blades as a bigger threat than Leeds next season, all things being equal. Leeds would be much more limited on spending.

Immaterial anyway as Leeds are up.

Anyone who thinks Lampard is a good shout...Coventry just got stuffed 3-1 by rock bottom Plymouth.

There's is not a chance in hell I'd want Lampard anywhere near us next season in that league.

Interesting to see BBD playing right wing for Sheff Utd this evening (before being subbed). Is that a regular thing since he's been there?

I think he has played across the front 3.

Rak-saki could/should be a really good player

We need a Hamar type of player...either him of Azaz maybe from Boro

Azaz would be good and probably getable.

Fernandes could definitely be our Hamar. Just need Fernandes to do a Schneiderlin and work an agreement to give us a season in a lower league and see how it goes. Amazingly, Schneiderlin gave us two in League One after the initial summer hysteria regarding his French youth international manager. Although, Fernandes has a lot more of a profile now than Schneiderlin did.

Just show him Portugal legend Ruben Neves playing for Wolves in the Championship.

He again looked an absolute donkey.

That's two of next season's relegation spots for the Premier League sorted, one to be decided.

I think Leeds will give it a much better go than any of the three this season

Remind me of the French youth international manager and Schneiderlin story? If I remember correctly, he started very slowly for us and certainly wasn’t a stand out player when we were relegated from the Championship that season.

Yeah they'll be best suited than any of us 3 we're this season, they have a half decent spine for one and if they keep hold of Gnonto and James they have a bit of attacking nous.  Depends on their transfer activity. I do think it will be very difficult now for any promoted side to survive in the Prem. Forest did it by signing an entire new team and hoping some came good (which they did). Saints need to not just sign players this summer that can get us promoted but have one eye on them playing for us in the Prem. That, and hoping we can keep hold of the likes of Fernandes.

They'll be helped with the fact that Elland Rd is a much scarier place for away teams than the likes of mostly soft and welcoming St Marys.

I would bloody hope so.

They've got us to learn from ffs

If that isn't enough.. They can fill their boots and learn from Ipswich and Leicester too.

Mind you, none of the team's coming up this year have owners as naive as ours and will know full well the standard of the Premier League.

We beat Leeds 3 times last season, when they had Riimer, Somerville and Archie Gray in the team. They will have Harrison back from his loan, but I think they will need genius recruitment to have any chance

Just flicked on Sky Sports looking for the Spurs v Forest game and noticed there's something on the next channel called the 'Baller League'. I watched about 30 seconds of it...what is that nonsense all about and why on earth is it being televised on a 'serious' sports channel?

They will have a lot to spend though with PSR, due to staying down the extra year, what I thought was best for Saints. They should be able to make a good fist of it due to that.

Agree, as they won't be as hamstrung by PSR 💰

Memo to all Saints fans, seventh place next year would be just perfect, at no time must we be positioned in, or aim for, a top six finish. Good things come to those that wait.

But don't wait toooo long, silly Stoke, bumbling Birmingham, middling Middlesborough, desperate Derby, baffling Blackburn all show the downsides of not bouncing back 'too soon'.

No, but he was very poor, and should’ve been booked for taking a Burnley player out clumsily in the air. Looks a bit chunky to me as well.

Good finish by AA at WBA v Derby by contrast, similar to many of his goals for us last season.

Cos this season was better than being mid-table in the Championship? I don't think so.

Next season we can aim for promotion as we will be out of the 3 year reach of the disastrous 2022/2023 spend. Last year we weren't which meant we couldn't spend what was needed to stay up.

How so?  Although recruitment was light this season, their wage bill and costs would still be high.

I see Vardy has apologised to the fans for an embarrassing season leading to relegation.

Leeds will have no chance unless they replace Meslier. He will get caned in the PL every week.

I think staying up now need big slice of luck with signings clicking, also need a couple of existing Premier league steams to start imploding at the right time, are points deductions a thing of the past now as Man City are still avoiding them ?

Won't their PSR limit be less than ours though due to the allowed losses being £20m less per season?

The folly of Martinball further exposed at PL level https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c20xd10z6gvo

I think it shows you need talented players to keep the ball better, otherwise it’s folly. Therefore the team need to be able to defend well and the best chance to score is press upfield and take advantage of the goal scoring opportunities.

A template for any promoted team atm with limited funds.

Scott Parker is a much better manager than Martin - who would have thought

his team dont let in many but also dont score many.......we are half way to that this season

Apparently the Burnley ownership were one of the groups that Semmens turned down for this crowd we have

I wonder if Farke would consider Baz? 🙂

They went straight back down with their philosophy first manager. Every time I see Parker, he's getting his hair just right. So as vain as Martin there.

So lots of parallels. 🙂
