That’s the formula you need as mid-sized or smaller PL outfit. Trick is not to get clever bollocks and dip too far below the market value for purchases in key positions and/or players without the athletic attributes in your spine.

The one thing which is really noticable is just how much Brentford run, and how fast they are, both on and off the ball.

Compare that to our slow, ponderous style under Martin. How did he ever think that would be successful in the Prem??

Yep, they look to get the ball out wide to their best players as quickly as possible. No weird tactics or philosophies anywhere to be seen.

The bottom 3 are all pretty crap. I do expect Wolves to pick up, and they did look like they were going to a while back. But still think the 3 promoted will be the 3 to go back down. I do expect this trend to stop next season though.

Leicester fans feeling it more than us now I think, we're long gone,  resigned to our fate, Leicester on the other hand  knew a win tonight would lift them out of the bottom 3 and yet they never even got close to Brentford

Yeah, but they haven't conceded as many, I don't think. We've still got that record.

I've just seen the goal clips and some very empty stands..

Yes but at some stage they’ll be degraded just as we were and back in the Championship. Same with Bompey, Brighton, Fulham etc. it’s not our time atm.

Why? Leeds, Sheff Utd and Burnley who are the three best sides in the Championship are nowhere near equipped to deal with the PL and I dont think any big spending by either side (unlikely as it is anyways) is going to change that. Championship sides are largely reliant on an established PL team having a desperate season - like us in 22/23

Wednesday heading for that mid-table finish as expected, yet some of our fans will still be demanding Rohl as manager. As I said before, if he didnt have any prior link to us, I dont think we'd be paying any attention to him

Probably, but also the fact he’s getting the most out of his squad if Charles is the best player.

Palace have managed it though, you just can’t afford to have a lazy window or two and be proactive/ruthless if a manager isn’t cutting it eg De Boer. Look at how long we limped on with Pellegrino beyond November, Nathan Jones and Martin when it obviously wasn’t working whatsoever.

Like a lot of their player recruitment, SR do the same for managers. Get up and coming ones or ones with a point to prove, presumably thinking they will have to pay less, and reap the rewards. Except Jones, Selles, Martin and now Juric have been among the PL's least successful managers. Rohl may be great. But it's also just a repeat of the others, and none of them have worked for us.

It's not even as though they share a common set of values. SR are happy to lurch from one to the other. Why not lurch towards a manager with some actual success and proven ability for a change?

I share your sentiment but to be fair to SR I’m not certain managing saints as we get relegated was all that appealing a prospect to ANY proven success and proven ability Manager.

Those criteria ( proven success proven ability ) have an implicit upward career trajectory to them - which getting relegated in first season and the lottery of the championship in year two rather pisses on. 
 

I think it’s pretty clear neither Potter or Moyes wanted anything to do with us and taking an “interesting” championship manager- especially is problematic given our recent experiences. Fans might rightly say “ have we not learned our lessons “ if Danny Rohl  were poached for example. Allegri and unemployed high end managers like that are simply not going to touch us. 
 

Recruiting Ivan - a baggage free foreign coach with a sellable to the fans CV seemed the easiest solution for SR - with as much chance as success as the more contentious recruitments they could have tried. Whether he is preferred for next season despite his Board support remains to be seen. I sense his honeymoon is over and some players are getting very busy with their agents…as is our don’t fancy it injury list lengthening ….lets not be surprised if our starting team next season has 7,8 or 9 new faces including the manager!
