Greece proving that underdogs who are well drilled, well coached and set up in a good formation can upset the big boys. They broke quickly, passed horizontally, got between the lines and gave England a harsh lesson. Are you watching Russ?

The defending for the second goal was the sort of stuff you see U11s do in the local park absolutely hilariously shit. Greece could have had 6 or 7

Of course he was watching, he will feel vindicated that England have copied him.

Hopefully the FA are thinking how well his system will work with the England players...

Interviewer just asked the scorer about "an historic night for Greece with your first win over England", Pavlidis looked at him like he's a fucking idiot and then said the obvious...the night was special for them because of Baldock, nothing to do with England.

God knows what that starting line up was all about, at least Southgate picked a balanced side.

Hopefully tonight’s embarrassment puts to bed the idea of Carsley getting the job full time.

I think the pressures and quality of opposition manager they face in senior club management is a better test for their aptitude than international youth management is. They have all shown they can manage big characters at senior level and have playing or management experience in major international tournaments. They've all won silverware in senior management. They've proven they can thrive under pressure. They're all far more qualified as far as I'm concerned and personally, I couldn't care less if our manager is German. It's a one sided rivalry anyway.

These are the high profile names currently out of work that come to mind but that's not to say there aren't others that are more qualified than Carsley. I'd even rank the likes of Potter and Solskjaer clear of Carsley on the basis they have both managed senior teams to silverware.

Youth football is a skillset more dominated by player welfare and development than expectation. It's also a place inexperienced managers go to learn their trade. When we go to the world cup, he'll be up against seasoned managers with a lot more nous. Carsley is not the best man for the job nor do I believe he's the best man that wants the job.

Oh look, he came up against a seasoned manager with more nous in Jovanovic and look what happened.

lol. Southgate is too defensive, Southgate needs to play our attacking players and fit them all into a system. Kane is past it and slows us down

Carsley picks all the attacking players and no Kane. You can say what you like about Southgate but at least he picked a balanced side

🤣

Fortunately.. I more important things to do, like the washing up and cleaning the toilet...but it was a good way to learn how to play without H. Kane.

Russel Martin could have told Carsley that playing without a striker doesn't work, but as a Scotsman ..why should he help England.

Did I read that the Greeks had 3 disallowed offside goals?...whether they were correct decisions or not is somewhat immaterial considering that

they  actually got the ball in the net 5 times.  If this is the best that England have to offer , we 're in for a bad time before the next major tournament.

Didn't the Dutch invent total football?

And actually make it work.

It’s almost as if famous footballers and managers have media training and PR teams working for them and that not every word that comes out of their mouth is the gospel according to our lord. Who’d have thought.

Vaguely Saints-related, Lewis Payne got on second half for Cheltenham in their 3-2 defeat at home to Swindon in a Cotswolds derby today and did well. Harrison Sonha, their other technically good player, didn’t get on until half-time either. Swindon filled the away end for the short trip and gate of 5.5k meant a good atmosphere.

Michael Flynn much like Russell Martin at Saints on thin ice, far more so I’d say. In fact, as popular as a fart in a space suit with the natives at the moment unless things rapidly change. Thought he’d be a decent appointment but after a huge turnover of players they really cannot defend at all.

There was nearly a comedy own goal before Swindon’s first from a throw in that exceeds anything Saints have done recently. Amazingly, Cheltenham were the width of a post from 3-3 after being 3 down, but both sides will struggle to stay up, exciting as today was. The win is only Mark Kennedy’s second in 14 for Swindon but buys him a couple more games having been under pressure going into today.

So boring sideways , sideways, backwards etc then long hopeful ball that goes out of play / mopped up by defence   repeat .

Flicks and touches a couple of yards no real forward momentum let alone a shot on goal   as bad as watching Saints .

We should be approaching names like Xavi, Low, Tuchel, Zidane (if he speaks English)

He was on my shortlist so I'm very pleased!

Shea Charles was fantastic yesterday for Northern Ireland. Hopefully he can keep prospering and come back and make an impact for saints at a later point.

Be ready for us in the Championship next season.

Let’s just hope he/Sheff Weds don’t ‘do a Burnley’ and go up whilst we go the other way.

Why would that matter? It worked out great for us with Tella.

He probably won’t want to play a season for us in the Championship, but if the main purpose is to sell him at a profit then fine

Joel Piroe is utter, complete garbage. Although a toss up between him and Stewart as Russ' striker not sure who the worst investment would have been. Stewart at least looks a player when fit. Piroe looks like a poor Rugby Union player.

Ugh.

5 Live obsession on making ghost sounds over Ten Haag's job continue.

They're saying that if they win, it's in spite of the manager. If they don't, it's his fault. They are saying they have no plan and, unlike every other team in the league including Saints, they don't have an identity.

The Spurs boss came in for some light stick, before the West Ham goal.

If you are a top 6 club, and don't win, the press panic button is pushed to give them something to discuss with all the depth of a puddle.

Playing decent football with a young progressive manager with exciting, forward thinking players. What's not to like? Apart from their joke of a ground of course.

More atmosphere than our ground tbh.

Their manager has a bit of Pochettino circa 2013/14 about him. Not sure why Foley wasn’t in Semmens viewfinder when Gao was selling, far more switched on about the football industry than SR will ever be. Apart from Semmens being a total smug and complacent plank. Fitted well with SFC post-2016 then.
