Blimey look what happens when a giant is in the box

Some header that was. Such a hard choice on who I want to win this. Once upon a time it would have been Newcastle but their fans have been utter entitled bellends since the takeover and the media love in, and their “love of a number 9” makes me sick. They’re like the Pompey of the north such is their opinion of themselves.

On the other hand that would mean the National anthem booing scouse rats winning which would be equally funny watching them mess up.

It is a bit Catch 22 - Toon tip it for me as the bin dippers are more entitled knobs, most of whom have never been to Anfield.

Trying to explain to my 6 year old how big a win this is for Newcastle. I said to put it into perspective even Saints and Norwich (wife's team) have won a major trophy in that time. "Oh my God" she says, "they must have been really bad."

Last time Newcastle won a trophy Anne Boleyn was about to be executed. And like any right minded fan I am so delighted Newcastle fans are so happy and would happily trade a positive diagnosis of my cancer to just enjoy a real football city rightly having their moment. Ohh I’m so emotional. If only another journalist could be hacked to death it would make my weekend.

One of those games which I wanted both teams to lose. Newcastle deserved it though.

Did you explain that Newcastle are now  owned by Saudi Arbaia so hardly some plucky underdogs?

Liverpool looked like they didn't realise it was a cup final.

Agreed, maybe going out of Champions league and having a tough 90 minutes against the mighty Saints in the last week had taken it out of them

Quite happy Newcastle won, personally. Don’t particularly like them or the PIF but at the end of the day they’re just another part of another soulless sports conglomerate. I’d rather them win the least fashionable of the big four trophies and make Liverpool’s season a bit less special. Plus everyone can now STFU about 70 years etc.

In tonight’s game, Vardy on his way to another defeat, which is always nice.

Do we have to play Leicester again? They look just as shite as us - so could nick that one like the Ipswich game.

Yes we've still to play them......but we're not beating anybody as long as Juric is still in the dugout

Am pleased for Newcastle despite them being owned by murderers.

Only downside is now they have won something it does make our ‘fuck all since 1976’ seem just that little bit more shit.

Leicester’s last 7 home games

0-3 Wolves

0-2 City

0-2 Palace

0-2 Fulham

0-2 Arsenal

0-4 Brentford

0-3 United

I mean… at least we’ve seen a couple of goals since Christmas.

They are just shocking, how on earth do they have more points than us?

It’s such a sad indictment of where we are. Any other season and we’d be talking about how abysmal they have been.

Sacking Copper looks ridiculous now given where they were at the time.

The fawning over Newcastle winning the Carebo Cup is pretty vomit inducing. They're even going on about it on This Morning today.

There’s loads of big fat women in Shirley High Street which I take as a sign of support

Better than that cheating diver Nunez parading around with the trophy.

I just had a liverpool fan today moaning about how bias the coverage was on sunday, the neck of it. For years we;ve had Carragher, Redknapp and the commentators fawning over everything Liverpool do

Those 2 drive me mad. Scouse this, that and the other. Glad their quadruple season has dwindled to a single.

To be fair Liverpool were 2nd best for 90% of the match and several Newcastle players turned up for the match , Joe Linton was outstanding although slightly annoying 😄

But it was a cup final for Newcastle, wasn't it?

I think he’s given Tuchel a hand picking the England side tonight.  Fucking hell!

Out of interest…..Why?

On form I wouldn’t go for Foden and prob wouldn’t go Rashford but it seems like a 4231 with players in their regular positions, which is not something you’d attribute to Ivan.

10 minutes into the new Tuchel reign and you’d be forgiven for thinking Russell Martin was the new England manager.

Got to be honest, it’s not too bad.

Burns is nowhere near good enough though.  Can’t understand why he’s playing.

Kind of shows the difference between decent enough in the premier league and decent enough at top level. He probably earned his chance but looked out of sorts.

Our CB options aren’t brilliant really. Also Foden and Rashford being so limp is not a good look. Thankfully Tommy Took called them out on it for being far too passive.

Our defensive options are pretty poor, when you compare to other top nations. We don't have any players, outside of Stones, that I'd class as a top level CB.

There are certainly no Rio's, Terry's or Sol's in the current group. Defo our weakest area and why I've always thought we need to play to attack and score, rather than the Southgate approach to keep it tight as our defensive players aren't good enough.

Dunno - two Euro finals and a World Cup semi final. I’m not sure what else England fans would expect. He did a fantastic job.

He was right.  He remember when wingers were there to skin the full-back and get the ball across.

Foden was so bad in that position last night.

England squad for the Latvia game.  According to the BBC:

  • Southampton stopper Ramsdale is the only player from the original 26 not to be included in a matchday squad.

Another commentary on our season.

Just reading an article about Scotland after their defeat to Greece.. This caught my eye:

Quote

Che Adams, the centre-forward, has a rather unfortunate habit of not looking remotely dangerous near to goal.

Not sure why Foden has gone off the boil , perhaps Pep has coached him to death along with Grealish ?

he was stuck out on the wing friday night and he's not a winger, he needs to be playing either centrally or at least further inside, he's brilliant at finding pockets of space, hes not going to accelerate past people like Saka does.
