Carsley can fuck off if he can’t even be bothered to sing the national anthem.  I know he played for Ireland, but he’s about as Irish as Jack Charlton and the City Centre clock.

Surprising that he didn’t answer Ireland’s call.

Free header given away at the first corner.

TBH I wouldn't either; it's deadful.

This could be 8-0 if don’t take foot off. Ireland are hopeless

Will Smallbone as effective for RoI as he’s been for Saints this season. Needs to hit the gym and weights big time, Declan Rice is hard to deal with anyway but 10 stone dripping wet doesn’t cut it. Get on the protein shakes as well.

This actually vaguely entertaining by England standards.

Thanks to Southgate getting us relegated in the nations league, we'll beat a few low ranking teams and Carsley will get the job full-time. Another that's achieved nothing in senior management.

But they've got the mighty Smallbone in midfield. They can't be that bad.

Not been watching. Are they playing a possession game with quick passing through midfield, to get the best out of Will?

If he wins football matches playing attractive, attacking football he could sing Wonderwall instead for all I care.

Not as a central midfielder, Never. He’s decent as a right back in games where we have a lot of the ball but the real test will come against decent teams as with Liverpool defensively he gets exposed.

They’ve hardly had the ball to be fair and winning it back isn’t his game.
he needs steak and compound lifts.

Agree and was Southgate who hung him experimenting in a major final when had 2 years of games to try it if he thought it would work. TAA’s distribution is excellent however much you hate scousers

Carsley will get the job I reckon. Good job with the 21’s, will be tasked with bringing through the next batch, easy decision for the FA.

Ireland look like they would struggle to get out of League 1

It was ridiculous.

his distribution is good but this is an easy game against a pretty poor level opposition. I’m not convinced he’s good enough defensively to be first choice right back for England.

Agreed, but not basing it on this game - think they’ll announce it quietly after next international break.

Coleman getting injured is a real blow for Everton. Leaves them potentially needing to play Holgate at RB.

What a shame.

He’s back at WBA on loan

Great one through ball in the first half but some of his other passes were not particularly good

Did you not see how many times he gave the ball away? One giving the 'oirish a golden opportunity! Today TAA was very poor

Says nothing about the nation or its people. Just asking for some deity to save some rich person. I never sing it either. Always used to leave cinemas along with everyone else when it struck up back in the day.

Keeping the cinema theme, I'm all for the national anthem being replaced by Pearl & Dean.

Lawrie getting a couple of appearances (keeping this Saints related) 🙂

Pearl & Dean is also versatile. Here it's combined with Led Zeppelin....

I’m an idiot then 😂.

He can’t defend, and he gives the ball away far too much.

We have better full-backs in my humble opinion.

He had success with this group of players (or soon to be group of players) at the euro-u21's, by that alone, he's achieved more than any other home nations manager in the PL.

Unless Pep or Carlo come along (or the FA grow a pair and appoint someone like Jose), he's the best option for us.

I thought the criticism was well written and exactly what's wrong with out defending.  Before they came think about playing high or passing too close to our box they need to focus on basic defending.  Mke us difficult to score against.

TBF I wrote that when he started game brightly and then proceeded to be shit.  I gave up even watching the game as same old frustrating England. So yeah completely get people not wanting him in the team

Youth management is a different skillset and we'll learn absolutely nothing against low ranked teams in the nations league.

When it comes down to the crunch games, and the pressure that involves, he's completely untested. No such pressure exists in youth football.

Like the Americans, we shouldn't limit ourselves to only domestic talent. If we can't find the English talent, look elsewhere. Pochettino has extensive senior management experience and unlike Carsley, he played in major international tournaments as well.

We should be approaching names like Xavi, Low, Tuchel, Zidane (if he speaks English)... I doubt we've approached anyone.

I refuse to believe his CV is the best we can attract but we all know the FA have already decided he's got the job.

National management is a different skillset to club management.

Zidane, reasonable enough shout based on CV. Although I'd want to see him do something with someone other than Madrid (why hasn't he taken another job - waiting for France?) and I doubt talks english and/or be interested.

Low & Tuchel both German and I'd rather win nothing than a german win it for us. Low lasts 2 tournaments as Germany manager were a disaster.

Poch, won nothing and is an argie (see above).

Xavi...? Other than an underwhleming stint at Barca, what on earth has he done to warrent the job. You've just shown that you're after a big name rather than the right name.

I think the pressures and quality of opposition manager they face in senior club managment is a better test for their aptitude than international youth management is. They have all shown they can manage big characters at senior level and have playing or management experience in major international tournaments. They've all won silverware in senior management. They've proven they can thrive under pressure. They're all far more qualified as far as I'm concerned and personally, I couldn't care less if our manager is German. It's a one sided rivalry anyway.

These are the high profile names currently out of work that come to mind but that's not to say there aren't others that are more qualified than Carsley. I'd even rank the likes of Potter and Solskjaer clear of Carsley on the basis they have both managed senior teams to silverware.

Youth football is a skillset more dominated by player welfare and development than expectation. It's also a place inexperienced managers go to learn their trade. When we go to the world cup, he'll be up against seasoned managers with a lot more nous. Carsley is not the best man for the job nor do I believe he's the best man that wants the job.
