OttawaSaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 (edited) Ipswich 0-2 Liverpool. That's part 1 of "the memory of Bobby Robson" has a bad day in place. Over to you Saints... Edited 17 August, 2024 by OttawaSaint 1
tdmickey3 Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Midfield bar Downes is to weak but until Ugo Is in and another AM, it’s best we have. Hope MaCarthy has one of his better games he’s going to need to
sfc4prem Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Their team doesn't look much changed from the one we faced back in 2022/23...

hypochondriac Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 (edited) What do we want from today? Obviously some points would be the first thing but if we can't manage that, I want a performance to be proud of, some promising passages of play, looking dangerous in attack and showing that we can compete with these players in this league. If we can't have any of that then just lose by one goal so we aren't bottom! Edited 17 August, 2024 by hypochondriac 1
Farmer Saint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Team as I thought - strongest side we can play at the moment (until others are au faix with the style).

Trying to work out when Wood overtook Edwards in the pecking order - I thought it was Edwards who was receiving all the plaudits. Strange that he's suddenly behind Wood now.

Miltonaggro Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 1-1 I think, hopefully settle a few nerves and get right up some 'expert' hooters!
pingpong Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Primary objective should be to keep within 2 goals of them, would take a 3-1 defeat please.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Nervously looking forward to seeing what we can do. Think it could be a big wake-up call with a number of horrible fuck-ups when trying to pass in our pen area. Shearer has called it 3-1, so I’d like us to completely make him look a prat and win or at worst draw. Not sure I like a 3 CB defence, especially with Stephens there…invites pressure and inevitably means there are fewer options to play out. Good to see we’ve moved on from Manning. Good to see Archer straight onto the bench as an option with Tyler too. Is Aribo good enough to deserve a start? Jury out, but I thought he looked leggy and got caught with the ball a bit too much in pre-season games. So tough to call this…think it will be a sad loss, but let’s hope it’s more 2-1 than 9-0. COYS!
Saint Matty 76 Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Any chance of creativity will need to come from the wing-backs with that midfield. 1
Suhari Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 https://nativesurge.info/newcastle-vs-southampton/ Seems okay. 2

There will, I predict, be at least three embarrassing losses of possession, one of which will lead to a goal, but if there's enough of the other kind (courage, be our friend!), I'll take it. I actually love the experience of seeing 21 triangles lead to a zip-zing and we're away. I like Russball. It's entertaining as hell. And the tension is part of that. Miss Bazunu, but still... we have to try to see if we can hold onto the system we've been practicing for a year. It served us pretty well last year. One key thing to look for. Can Smallbone cut it in the premier league playing the role he's embraced? He's looked v elegant as the escape ball master. Every time he does something impressive today I'll be cheering. (And of course counting on Downes for his brilliant break-up play.). Fantasy moment: we're trailing 1-0 in the 70th minute. Tall Paul comes on and scores a headed goal from a perfect Sugawara cross.... It can happen, friends. It can happen. Entertaining it ain’t.
saintant Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Looking forward to seeing the surprise RM said he has up his sleeve. He said we didn't use it pre-season because he didn't want to show his hand. I'm intrigued.

HarvSFC Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Jacob Murphy still starts for them? Would be a shame if he picked up an injury today. 1

OttawaSaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 From some angles yellow vs black and white not easy to tell apart.
OttawaSaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Wonder how we'll hold up against a more aggressive press.
Saint_clark Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 No streams working for me now. Hate the Prem.
Bad Wolf Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 "Russell Martin was lucky to keep his job after 7 games last season" - If that's where we're at then the game has gone. 1
Saint Billy Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Newcastle pressuring the tippy happy stuff at the back already
saint francis Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Works perfectly for me but Arabian commentary... https://livehd.lat/100/ehd-37.php
OttawaSaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 (edited) Great play Suga! Yellow for Hall. Edited 17 August, 2024 by OttawaSaint
Saint_clark Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 We're playing an insanely high defensive line, so high that we're in their half and they have a forward closer to our goal than our defenders.
Miltonaggro Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 (edited) Stephens' magic strikes again. Edited 17 August, 2024 by Miltonaggro
Saint Matty 76 Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Smallbone should probably do better with the contact so it doesn't need the touch, but it's unlucky!
Sheaf Saint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 First blood to us but offside. Was Smallbone's shot on target? Would it have been better for Stephens to leave it, knowing he was offside?

SaintBobby Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Wasn’t going in from Smallbone, so not a big error by Jack
