BotleySaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Team doing fine so far this half. But you have to fear the counter attack goal. Need a chance to come off for us. 1
Hopper Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Better than any performance from the 22-23 season for me so far. 5
Colinjb Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 If we cannot get at least a draw from this then we can mark it as a disappointment. All defense for Newcastle. 1

Just a bit - it's been a very good performance away against a top 6 side - and we were dominating before they went to 10 men. 1

This game has gone now but tomorrow and Monday has to be about getting a first choice keeper in. It’s not difficult, practically anybody with a pulse woyld be an upgrade on Alex and Baz, and if Martin doesn’t trust the scouts (understandable) then give Mendes or one of other agents a ring, I’m sure they’ve got a keeper looking for a PL opportunity in their books who are at least passable. I don’t know if the hesitancy to get a first choice keeper is the manager or board. If it’s the former, the club might need to do what Cortese did over Nigel’s head by getting Boruc in. It’s underwritten by the weird board fetish with Bazunu. They need to get smart as it’s small margins in this league. Reliable keeper is essential. Up to me I’d approach Johnston and then make a final offer to arsenal for ramsdale - either improve us enormously. The way the outfield players are battling deserves a rock at the back. 2

Holmes_and_Watson Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 It's all the tougher when we allow them to get back, get central and block everything.

Saint Matty 76 Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Got to give Archer 15-20 minutes here. Perfect opportunity. 1
SNSUN Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 I know Archer hasn't trained with the lads but he needs to come on here. 25 mins left to score.
obelisk Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Giving away free kicks so they can lump it into the box just isn't good tactics.

So the decision to pass the ball wasn't in itself a bad one in that situation, but of all the passes he could have made, he chose the worst possible one. I'm not having that it's down to tactics and instructions. Any half decent keeper should have been able to complete a simple pass there. 1

The safe option is to put your foot through it with half time just around the corner. 1

That 'simple pass' was ever even going to leave our own penaly area. If you play around in your own box you'ree only ever going to concede. You're never going to score in their goal. Agreed, it should have been simple. The fact that McCarthy underhit it show to me that he was not confident in what he was trying to do. It was a bad case of the yips.
obelisk Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 It'd be criminal to come away from this game without something. 2
Sheaf Saint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Everton 0-2 down at home to Brighton and down to ten men.

Saint Matty 76 Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Good subs. Great opportunity for them both to become starters if they do something right here. HAVE to get an equaliser at least.
OttawaSaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 BBD has given them problems all game, AArm has been quiet yet it's BBD to make way. 3
obelisk Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Saints with not much of an idea of what to do in the final third. All a bit desperate. 1
washsaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Edozie really is not very good. Flatters to deceive with no end product whatsoever. I'd certainly have SAA ahead of him. 2
Ralph Fastenbüttl Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 Don't fret folks - remember, as the great Nathan Jones once pointed out, playing against 10 men puts you at a massive disadvantage. 2

Honestly think he's another who needs to just go on loan to a middle of the road team, nothing to play for, and just start every week. Like a Bristol City or a Stoke type side
Toussaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 16th , need to keep this going for another 37 and a bit games and we’ll be fine 1
washsaint Posted 17 August, 2024 Posted 17 August, 2024 This game is summing up while it will be a long, hard struggle this season. We look great - until the final 3rd where we look hopeless. Lots of positives from this game but if a new GK is not in place for the Forest game that would be criminal. Looks like we have run out of ideas on how to break them down. 1
