I’ve been given a quote for some replacement windows , the quote was extremely competitive , this is were the alarm bells started ringing , the firm wanted 50% deposit but wouldn’t take credit card payments , so I had no consumer protection if things went wrong , so with my suspicions raised I did a little digging and found this does this mean the owner is bankrupt or the firm is ? His quote had a vat number which was a live one I think . Thoughts please

Not a bankruptcy expert but it doesnt smell right and I wouldnt take the risk when there are many good companies out there.

A friend used these people, made in Germany and you can specify exactly what you want in terms of frames, U values, double or triple, noise reducing, laminated or not etc. cheap too

Having a quick look - I agree, this doesn't look right at all!

Andrew James Carr (dob 13.02.1987) - is not listed as a director of any company.

There are no companies listed at 25 Colton Close, despite the letterhead claiming that is the registered office.  There WAS a company registered there called 'York Insignia Limited' but the address changed in April 2018.

The VAT number on the letterhead IS listed to Andrew Carr at that address - although why would a VAT registered company give a quote that doesn't include a VAT breakdown!

However, Since Andrew Carr has been made bankrupt he would not be allowed to run a company, so having a VAT registration would be irrelevant.

The fact they are asking for cash only, smells fishier than a pub that the cunt with a bell has been in.

Steer clear and not risk losing over £4k!!

Looks like his business is a sole trader, not a limited liability company. It also appears that a supplier has petitioned for the bankruptcy.

So, yeah, I would NOT pay him any cash.

I got confused between Jonnyboy and Johnnyboy. The former would never be having something as bourgeois as double glazing

If you don't want to be viewed as bourgeois just hang net curtains behind the windows..

They’re a sign of aspirational pursuit in the decadent, materialistic West.

Yeah “carrying on business as”. He obviously owes a creditor money and they have made him bankrupt.

Keep well clear.

Pretty much covered above.

"Danger Will Robinson!"

Enough concerns to stay away. I've seen plenty of folk who try to convince themselves it will be all right, in the face of multiple red flags.

I'd be looking elsewhere.

His estimate refers to a registered office which seeks to suggest that he's trading via a limited company but that appears not to be the case. Regardless, he's gone bust at a creditors instigation - avoid like the plague mate.

Many thanks for all input he’s been binned off and gone with a more expensive but legitimate quote , surely in this day and age most people would do some background checks , although to be fair I wasn’t 100% sure what he was doing wrong but something rang alarm bells
