Albion and Bulwark were both mothballed by the last Government, and Northumberland is beyond economical repair due to structural failures.

Err, they were under control on the primary contractor, with work packages to regenerate bulwark at least.

This has left the navy now negotiating with said contractor to take back control of a recently sold frigate

"What we’re actually seeing with HMS Bulwark is extended readiness, just under a different name. Despite previous announcements about returning to service, I think most people knew that was unlikely. The reality is that the ship is unlikely to be deployed for any significant operations. The notion of being ready ‘if required’ subtly but unmistakably points to this being the case.

Of course that is going to be said. The real world is a regeneration programme just needed the commitment.

Which amounts to the ships being 'mothballed'' pending any decision to initiate the 'regeneration programme'. Neither Albion or Bulwark have been operational for at least 12 months, and the previous Government showed no inclination to act on bringing them back into service.

Such a situation mirrors the Thatcher Government's actions in the Defence Review immediately before Argentina invaded the Falklands - the number of RN ships listed to be decommissioned was a significant factor in the Junta's perception that the UK would not try to counter their actions. ( Hermes was to be decommissioned, Invincible was to be sold to Australia, and both Intrepid and Fearless were to be listed as surplus to requirements as the Navy was pivoted to a predominantly anti-submarine force ).

Fair point 🙂

The jocks managed to stop short of the cliff edge and there were loads of hidden costs in their leave campaign, not least a lack of clarity of whether they could carry on using Sterling, whether the EC would let them join the Euro (very unlikely as Spain didn’t want the Basques kicking off) and/or the EU itself.

Yes you are probably right. Like I said a bit too much of a conspiracy theory. It will be interesting to see what moves Blackrock does make in the UK though and also what hands farms do end up in. One claim is that young people who want to be farmers will be able to do so. Let's see if that happens.

ITV news ran a story on whether many of the 'signatures' were genuine.

Given that two thirds of those that voted in the GE didn't vote for Labour there are many more names that could be added to this pointless act of self-promotion by Farage - and what the fuck does it have to do with Elon Musk ?

Listened to a good Ian Hislop interview today. Essentially said "this lot aren't very good at explaining things. Politics is about bringing people with you."

I think that's a good summary. It does seem like much of the wounds they have caused so far been self inflicted. Certainly their comms need work and selling proposals to the electorate.

A minority of people who didn't like an election result want another one.

That's not how it works in the UK, and they knew that before the election.

The problem is that in front line politics your past will always be a stick to beat you with, and the dopey people calling for a fresh election etc will judge her as if she's robbed a bank. In any other area of public service it wouldn't get a second mention, but in front line politics with her party under pressure, she's probably made the right call.

Starmer grabbed the opportunity to move on the left wingers on though, won’t be too upset.

Shame - she has been convicted and been punished - really should be the end of it. She has left with honour and integrity as she left with absolutely no fuss.

Endemic of the press and the need for to break people.

That's like being done for doing 33mph.

Over the last decade we've had cabinet ministers literally stealing public money, taking bribes and carrying on, so it's difficult for the opposition to make anything of this.

Unless they can't spot the enormous trap they'd walk into.

Well yeah, but that’s no given. And as Jamie Delldays shows time and again, hypocrisy is fine when it comes to politics.

FWIW I think she was right to fall on her sword. I don’t much like the press going through bins, but you can’t be transport secretary of the country with this on your record while trying to stand front and centre for a party that said “you can’t be a lawbreaker and a lawmaker”.

She plead guilty to making a false report to the Police, inventing a false 'vicious' mugging to cover having lost her work phone, ( which it turns out wasn't lost ).

So yes, she did.
