Why is 'woke' used as some sort of insult? seems a pretty sensible thing to be to me if you want to be leader of a political party or nation!

'aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues especially of racial and social injustice.'

Because the people who use the word  pejoratively are anything but so need to kick back. As one major social commentator said recently, “better to be woke than be an arsehole.”

I genuinely think there’s something wrong with Atkins, she’s an absolute lunatic who can’t keep her emotions in check. She screeches her head off whilst she’s supposed to be listening to the answer to her question. She got warned previously for doing even worse and making herself look like a complete fucking twat but she doesn’t seem to have taken any of it on board.

Really basic error to have a go at one of the Chambers’ best orators for lack of experience - when he’s been shadowing health for 2.5 years and the Clown Car brigade had 5 Health Ministers in that time. She metaphorically watched the pie of a cricket ball she bowled disappear back over her head into the stand with a thud. Although Streeting really took her to the cleaners today apparently on the debate about the Darzi report. What a fucking legacy to leave https://news.sky.com/story/darzai-review-key-points-from-damning-new-report-into-state-of-nhs-13213159

I love the way they grandly call it a leadership race to -

a. Glam it up

b. Pretend they're still relevant.

c. Add in fake urgency to make it exciting.

In reality this vote is nothing more than a little sideshow, a Punch and Judy tent outside a Wembley gig, the rearranging of the corrupt, the changing of the arseholes - a project to amuse a small group of wealthy old people while some adults try to rebuild our country as a result of their last few decisions.

They are keeping the seat warm for Andy Street to firstly get a safe seat to win and secondly for him to get onto the front bench for whoever loses in 2028 or 29. Then when the Tory right/ERG is rejected again they will turn back to One Nation.

It’s an absolute shit show of nobodies, a collection of failures. Kemi is absolutely hatstand, I almost hope she gets it for the hilarity. i reckon honest Bob will win it, and what a cunt he is. Ask someone to draw you a Tory and he is it, useless and completely arrogant about it all in the same breath.

Interesting tactic.  I wonder if badenoch is a plant, put there to say the most stupid possible things, so that the other candidates can get some good soundbites and come across as reasonable?

I can’t believe she’s said that, I don’t think she’s a plant but is just genuinely batshit mental. Ageing population, main two parties looking to reduce migration, maintaining a western public services model - yeah, great idea Kemi 😂😂😂

It’s going to be Jenryck isn’t it? And his corruption record is a gift for the other parties.

The fact the audience cheered about her saying Trump winning would cheer her up and fact that a majority of hands up wanted her back in Parliament defies belief.

They really don’t get why they lost so heavily do they?

She gives the media plenty of content but it grates how much publicity this cunt gets. She is shameless. Badenoch seems to have similar arrogance.

Blue on blue action made that a lot more exciting sounding than listening to their sales pitches today. 🙂

So it wasn’t Kemi on Penny?

Cynical I know but that’s the sort of thing which gets you the elbow at the BBC and not what you expect from someone that experienced. Given Boris’s duo will be going shortly I’d think, I wonder if she’s had a bigger offer from one of Murdoch’s or Marshall’s streaming channels and this gets her out of her BBC deal?

"And today on Newscast, Laura will be sharing the results of her latest deep dive into the political world. Laura, what are you...oh wait, we already know, thanks to you sending us it all last week."

The BBC decided not to proceed, despite Boris saying he never read the notes, honest, cross his heart.

A BBC spokesman said that, since the Conservatives are no longer in power, there was no underhand deal they could enter to let it go ahead in exchange for a favourable licence fee outcome.

So Tugendhat is out and most, if not all, of his votes will probably go to Cleverly leaving the other two to fight it out as the nasty choice. Jenrick and Badenoch will both be working through the night to try and pick up extra votes. I expect we will see Cleverly and Jenrick as the candidates to be put before the gammons and blue rinsers. My money would have been on Jenrick but given Cleverly’s stock has risen after his conference speech, who knows? There will be a fag paper between a Jenrick Tory Party and Reform. Will common sense prevail and the moderate candidate win? Can’t see it myself. I think we are in for a drawn out battle for the far right ground over the next 5 years.

My gut says that Cleverly could beat Jenrick, who's frankly not very inspiring.  But I don't think the Tory members would be able to resist Badenoch and her extreme anti-wokeness.

Badenoch or Jenrick.

Fucking hell!

Good news for Labour.

Cleverly had the broadest appeal to the wider population

Badenoch could start a fight in an empty room and Crooked Bob has the sort of face that you'd like to punch.

When was the last time that a leader of the defeated party won the next election (Wilson in '74?).

Surprised at that, Cleverly looked like the best out of a bad bunch.

Think Starmer is going to be able to crack on with his free Arsenal tickets for a while as the two left just look unelectable to me. Badenoch seems a tad unhinged and Jenrick just comes across as a wanker.

Vote lending for sure, big own goal, and it means badenoch could well get in 😯

we will see a campaign based on getting rid of disabled toilets and the evils of trans-women. Not sure how she is going to win over the grown ups in the room.

And more prisons to accommodate 10% of the civil service

The last Tory membership vote gave us Truss as a PM, so I’m fully expecting them to stick to form and elect the worst candidate as their next leader. Trouble is I’m very much unsure which one that is. Honest Bob seems seems like a genuine sociopath and the dictionary definition of terrible Tory. Kemi is, unfortunately for her, only fractionally as clever as she thinks she is, and I’m not sure if continuing her tactic of inciting division is going to poll all that well outside of the true Tory blue bloods.

Just when you thought that the Tories were going to have a grown up for a leader.....

Mind you if Cleverley supporters were really that cack handed it is perhaps  a good job that he hasn't gone through to the members vote. Has any politician ever  been as misnamed as Cleverley??

If kemi gets in labour will need to avoid a winter election to head off any claims of weather control / weather weapons.

I expect starmer would just capitulate on trans issues and neutralise the battleground with badenoch, so they are probably better with jenrick and running on the "stop the brown people" ticket.

Neither seem very hopeful, how on earth are they going to get this turned around to traditional conservative family values?

Maybe jenrick, generate a scandal in a year or two and try for a new leader again?

They’ve been gerrymandering the vote for years, going back to when Portillo was kept off the member’s ballot .

Just as Ed Millibands short sighted rule changes gave us Corbyn, William Hagues rule changes gve us these shenanigans.

If you want to give the members a say, just vote once & send the top 2 forward to the membership.

Wasn't it the members that gave us Truss ?
