What are the reasons for not wanting a national enquiry?

The point is that in the very unlikely event the amendment is passed, the entire Bill falls. ( Not that they were bothered when they were in power ). By all means raise the issue and debate whether an enquiry is necessary, but why play politics in this manner ?

So Kemi Badenoch has now decided that the Asian grooming gangs issue is a national scandal. It is odd that it wasn’t such a big deal when her party was in power and it is odd, as it was a national scandal, that her party did absolutely nothing to implement the 20 action points from the last report. It seems that things are only a national scandal when you are desperate to deflect from your own incompetence and are desperate to score political points but have little to fight with.
She talks about smearing British Muslims ignoring the fact that Jenrick does it on a regular basis. No support either for another female MP who has faced death threats following Musks racist and defamatory comments

If Labour supported an enquiry there'd be no need for an amendment.

But this Bill would not be the appropriate way to introduce it, the amendment gives nothing additional to the Bill, it is deliberately destructive and distracting.. The Tories could have created an enquiry in 2022, 2023, or 2024, but chose not to. As I said, there may well be scope for the possibility of such an enquiry to be debated, but playing such pathetic games is unseemly.

My observation of trends is that a SoG post is guaranteed a like by TD, often a laughing emoji by Hypo and sometimes east stand nic, and that most other people react with comments and emojis as befits the post. I used to be benevolent to SoG and although I think too many people play the poster not the post, he doesn't help himself, and I'm still convinced he's on a wind up or is some kind of abuse masochist.

To be clear, this is the amendment the Tories and Reform supported.

"That this House, while welcoming measures to improve child protection and safeguarding, declines to give a Second Reading to the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill because it undermines the long-standing combination of school freedom and accountability that has led to educational standards rising in England, effectively abolishes academy freedoms which have been integral to that success and is regressive in approach, leading to worse outcomes for pupils; because it ends freedom over teacher pay, making it harder to attract and retain good teachers; because it ends freedom over Qualified Teacher Status, making teacher recruitment harder; because it removes school freedoms over the curriculum, leading to less innovation; because repealing the requirements for failing schools to become academies and for all new schools to be academies will undermine school improvement and remove the competition which has led to rising standards; because the Bill will make it harder for good schools to expand, reducing parental choice and access to a good education; and calls upon the Government to develop new legislative proposals for children’s wellbeing at the same time as establishing a national statutory inquiry into historical child sexual exploitation, focused on grooming gangs."

The first highlighted text shows the original purpose of the amendment, the second was a late addition to hide their intentions.

She wasted every question, it was a pathetic performance.

What ever the flavour of government is, a strong opposition is a sensible idea.

But surrounded by the bewildered halfwit survivors of The Johnson and Sunak Corruption Clusterfuck, Kemi is making Ed Davey look like Nelson Mandela.

I thought the Tories would do anything to avoid another leader turnover but she's objectively really poor.  Labour are hardly popular at the moment but she's pretty much single handedly keeping them in the game.

I think the Tories will pull the plug at the first opportunity to avoid getting cemented in 3rd place.

Unless the MPs can take control of the selection process, as they did when Sunak was shoehorned in, any new leader will be another deadbeat. Tory members are so out of touch with the rest of the country they will want another Kemi / Truss type.

She just doesn’t listen. I actually felt embarrassed for her in PMQs yesterday. Starmer must relish PMQs whereas even Blair used to dread them. The Tories are between a rock and a hard place. Do they go through another drama of a leadership contest or do they stick with what they have in the hope that Badenoch loses her arrogance and learns how to become a party leader. Farage has them by the short and curlies. They are so concerned about Reform that they seem more intent over a fight over 2nd and 3rd rather than showing voters that they have learnt from their mistakes are can be trusted with government again.

Farage has done what he does well. He gets everyone talking about immigration. As with Trump, he blames all of our ills on foreigners when the real major issues are elsewhere. He is playing Badenoch like a cheap fiddle.

the issue is too many weak people like you. Selfish, arrogant, ignorant, blaming everyone else for their problems, taking no responsibility for their behaviour, racist and bigoted as they arrogantly tell everyone else what they should be doing, constantly jumping on bandwagons to appear nice people.

luckily this is cyclical so we are now seeing strong  men guide us out of the bad times.

You clearly have memory problem, someone made a generic racist comment, no-one was abused. I have already explained that back then I was not as woke and was just out of uni so didn't respond, Would definitely say something now though if I heard the same (which I wouldn't because we are all more woke now, even you if you are brave enough to admit it).

In my opinion weak men are those who have to appear to be cool and think they are acting hard by being anti-woke. It's piss easy to join in and take the piss out of trans-gender people, laugh along with the homophobic jokes or go along with ignorant racism just because others around them do without thinking about how it effects others. You are the pussy.

Im not surprised you're getting all defensive. Someone was being openly racist and you stood back and let them carry on because you were more worried about how doing the right thing might impact you than doing it. Course you’d “definitely say something now” for one it’s easy to be brave after the event, it's easy to type from behind your screen what you'd definitely do now and the bandwagon says it’s not acceptable any more so you'd have loads of support. Too bad when you had the chance you were too weak to do anything. Like I said, weak.

So Badenoch is hitching her wagon to the Trump/Vance/Musk brigade. No policies just populism. Invent enemies and then whip up the hatred. It clearly works for some.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/feb/17/kemi-badenoch-western-civilisation-will-be-lost-tory-party-fails

So our Kemi is intolerant about someone taking the knee against racial intolerance? Are we now expected to take to the streets to fight against pronouns? We have one Farage. We don’t need another one.

I’m sure it is not unusual for people to exaggerate on their CVs. What surprises me is that some don’t double check and correct any “mistakes” by the time they reach high office given that everything they have  ever done will be under scrutiny by those wanting to score points against them.
