Downes was really giving it large after the match. With a bit of luck he could be persuaded to stay.

Downes was with one of the back room staff down in front of us looking into the crowd - the back room guy was patting Flynn on the badge and seemingly gesturing he is staying here!

Let's hope he does; immense again today, and for most of the season.     With THB "in-the-bag", it only remains for KWP to extend for our best players of the season (along with AA) to provide a good start to piecing together a competitive Prem side.

What a memorable day that was.   Every Saints player gave something to the cause.   THB, Bednarek, AA, KWP and Downes the stand outs but how good was Fraser in the LWB role, defending well and dangerous on the counter attack.    Smallbone has played well in the last month and was solid and creative today - the assist for Armstrong was sublime and he has earned another opportunity at the highest level.    Airibo, ran, tackled, harassed and got involved for the full 104 minutes - who thought he could run out a game like that?     And McCarthy with the low down, left-handed save and the commanding punches clear has left a legacy over the last few games if today was indeed his last for the Club.

Well done to R.M., he set the team up perfectly to counter the Leeds attacking strengths - forsaking high possession for defensive structure, astute counter attack and a pragmatic "get at them" approach.    He and his coaching staff have shown great tactical nous in the play off games and the flexibility to tweak the style of play and personnel to counter WBA and Leeds.    He has certainly earned the right to lead Saints back to the Prem.    What a day it must have been for those at the ground.  Great day for the Club and the city of Southampton.

Was one of the players celebrating the most at the end. Seem like he genuinely loves being here and is no doubt very excited to be guaranteed to be playing in the Premier League next season.

Another young player who we will get to see grow in a Saints shirt. Plays a very calm game for a defender his age and has all the attributes to go far in the game.

Couldn't see a thread on this. Permanent move complete.

Are we the first professional club ever to sign two Taylor's on the same day?

Feels like an opportunity missed to release the new kit and have some kind of 'tailor' pun on social media.

Not sure but a manager Taylor signed a player Taylor yesterday for Bristol Rovers.

We are putting together a group of very talented 20ish CB.

TBH, Ronnie, Wood, Zach Awe, and Nico Lawrence. All playing/training in PB football.

PB is very demanding on the CB, to identify young CB that can play this style and improve is very smart.

If they make the expected step up and becomd PL standard we will have a very solid CB options, which is very important to RM PB style.

Carsley doing his U21 stalwart a favour by getting him in the senior squad before he heads back to the U21. I'm ok with it. Whether Tuchel will continue to select him remains to be seen but this will do his confidence the world of good.

Good for him. Echo the thoughts that he’s had a really poor start to the year but recent weeks been one of our best players.

Definitely a favour to his U21 captain but can only be good news for us you’d hope.

Bizarre call-up. Carsley taking jobs for the boys to a new level by putting each and every one of his U21 favourites in for a round of back patting if they do well against shit opposition.

England aren’t exactly blessed with quality CBs these days and I think this reflects that. But as others have said, hopefully it’ll be a confidence boost for him and some good experience

Ramsdale and THB call-ups will only be a good thing for us. It’s going to be mega confidence boosters for players in positions we really need to be turning out high quality performances week in, week out.

Yes. Providing neither get injured.

Worrying that THB will miss over a week at Staplewood of Martin coaching him to pass sideways. Perhaps he'll be benched on his return to enable a phased rehabilitation into the squad again and get up to (or down to) speed with it.

Russ is probably on the phone to Carsley asking why Captain Jack hasn't been selected.

Disagree.  Thought he was very good against Everton, after improving steadily over the last few weeks.

Indeed but the mistakes he made earlier in the season....Not saying he hasn't been very good the last few games but I just worry it's too much too soon.

I have a great feeling about this call up. It’s going to transform him.

Weird call up. He's going to be a quality player one day but we aren't close to that yet.

Well done THB. Just being part of the squad working with different coaches will be hugely beneficial to him. Doubt he'll get any minutes on the pitch at this stage.

Congratulations THB! He joined Saints and he must have been hoping one day that joining Southampton Football Club and playing regular minutes despite his age would help him to get exactly this. And it has.

This is absolutely a terrifically validating result for him, SFC ~ and RM.

Other ambitious young players considering joining lowly Southampton- or indeed currently at the club - wether it’s us at the bottom of EPL or relegated to the Championship have a contemporary example right in front of their eyes now. No need to reference young players who got International call ups from decades ago. It CAN happen if you are at Southampton. 👏

You are such a plum!

When THB joined us, he had already been involved with the England set up for over 6 years.  Had been the captain and been part of the European under 21 Championship winning team.  But somehow, you want to credit RM for his call up to the senior squad.

Your wind up isn't even slightly amusing any more, it just looks sad and desperate.

Aaron Ramsdale has been transformed by Russell Martin too, He's gone from a benchwarmer to an England international 6th highest saves in the this season in the space of 3 months. He is more than a lego headed Arne model.

Another thing crossed my mind today. Selecting THB and Ramsdale isn’t so much having a look at them in the England squad, as Carsley’s early job application.

He was apparently at Brentford at some point I believe.

Personally my response to this is ‘fuck off’ . Rather stick with ‘Lego Head’ than bring ‘Billiard Ball Head’ here.

Honestly I don't know enough about his preferred style of play to have an opinion, but he led the under 21s to a European trophy so there is something about him. Don't think he was right for the senior mens job but doesn't mean he couldn't do something with us.

For anyone in any doubt that THB has cojones; he's only gone and got engaged to Roy Keane's daughter

Can you imagine the eyes over the dinner table at the first 'meet the parents night'!!

Father of the Bride speech: glare across the room "DO YOUR JOB"

😁

Cheered me up this morning after hearing that we'll have to manage without Rambo for a bit.

* No doubt this is not news to many people
