Charlie Taylor signs. Good acquisition

2 year deal. Slightly underwhelming but probably sensible bit of business when you consider our other option is Manning or Larios, who is made of glass.

I'm keeping a keen eye on who may still be with us should we get relegated next season and that effectively sorts out the left back slots for the next Championship promotion push! (Of course we all hope that doesn't happen...)

I've always liked him, not what I'd call a mega glamorous signing by any means - but we've had a pants pulled down many times with 'glamorous' big fee signings.

This dude knows the PL, knows English football and knows relegation battles. We needed better at LB and he undoubtably adds to that area - for free. Very, very sensible pickup. I'd prefer this one over Ryan Sessengon.

Burnley fans seem genuinely gutted he hasn't signed a new deal.

They do which is a good sign. They also say he's good at defending as well as getting forwards which is a rarity for us. He can also play LCB in a 3 so that's an option - although they describe him as being very one footed. It's not a "wow" signing but it appears to be a sensible bit of business on a free transfer and he's only 30.

Left back has been a bit of a problem area for us since Bertrand left. Hopefully we'll finally see one who is decent at defending, even if it isn't a long term signing.

Don't really know much about him. Love a free transfer though, and this season is all about consolidation so he doesn't need to be anything special just not be a complete mess.

Decent business. Good, solid player, experienced and proven in the PL, and free transfer means cash can be spent in other areas.

Good signing in my book. Always looked decent whenever I watched Burnley on the box. Plenty of experience which shows we've learned some harsh lessons from previous mistakes when we opted for signing youngsters who might produce good sell-on value. Welcome Charlie, looking forward to seeing you step out in a Saints shirt.

If anything I’d say our record of signing young players is better than that with experienced ones. In the last two years Manning, Onuachu, Orsic, AMN and Stewart have been something of a disaster.

TBF most of our signings have been a disaster. Our young additions of Sulemana, Larios (for other reasons), Mara, Bazunu etc haven't really been worth the money. Bar one or two (Lavia/Tino) our perm signings of all ages have been utterly horrific for years.

One of those names you know of, but not sure of the detail/quality. If he’s better than Manning then it’s very good business. Be interesting to see how he gets on.

He is way better than Manning.

Hypothetically we could see both on the same pitch if we play with 3 CBS, as Taylor can play LCB and Manning as a wing back.

It can't be good for the self esteem to play for a manager who picks 6 full backs every match and you're still not getting a game.

Really strange one. Wasn’t he quite good at Burnley?

He must be awful in training if he can’t get a game in this team

He is probably an ABBA or S Club 7 fan, and has told the manager that Metallica and Megadeth are not real musicians.

Can’t he play CB also? We are desperately short there. I thought he looked a solid player. We need all experienced hands to the pump. Some humble pie needs to be eaten by whoever needs to eat it to get Downes, ABK and Taylor back into the team / squad.

I’ll be very surprised to see any of those three back in a starting line-up for Saints going forward and for what purpose anyway? If you were manager why would you pick disruptors to be close to your first team?

Is Taylor a disruptive influence?

In some ways this is the strangest of them all.  We've been terrible this season in a big part because we have a championship quality squad lacking in premier league quality and experience.  He's one player who you'd have thought could come in and just be a competent premier league player.
