It was an exaggerated suggestion included to support part of that poster's contribution to the discussion. It was never intended to be serious.

Maybe so but Batman is taking it somewhere else.

Why can’t they join?

plenty of talk of Australia being a member of sorts

Article 10 of the NATO Charter. Other than the founding members, only European countries can be invited to join.

And that can change the moment the USA decide. Hence why it is in the table for Australia to be involved

Only European countries can be invited to join. Let me know when Australia joins. I am sure the Aussies will all be busting a gut to send troops to Eastern Europe.

Just like Turkey.  That country in the Middle East.

I thought Turkey was in Europe?  Austria will be pleased with their bye tomorrow evening when your revelation reaches UEFA.

Turkey is as much in Europe as Russia, as is Kazakhstan.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey

Turkey,[a] officially the Republic of Türkiye,[b] is a country mainly in Anatolia in West Asia, with a smaller part called East Thrace in Southeast Europe

I can't imagine Turkey being the first country anyone thinks of when asked "name a country in Europe".

I don't disagree with you, and a higher percentage of Kazakhstan's land area is in Europe and I bet even less people would name that as a European country. Even so, both are better qualified to be members of UEFA than Isarel.

Part of Turkey is in Europe. Using your massive knowledge of geography would you say that Turkey was a more natural fit for the NATO organisation  than an island off the coast of China?

What about an archipelago just off the northern coast of France joining the Trans-Pacific trading bloc ?

It's a completely stupid analogy.

An island off the coast of China is about the same natural fit (geography wise) as an Island in the South Atlantic.

I hope this helps with your geography question, even though none of them (or Turkey) are connected to the North Atlantic.

I never go to turkey and think of myself a sgoing to Asia. I never see their football teams playing in Europe, or their country playing in European qualifiers and tournaments, and wonder why some Asian team is involved. Forget the technicalities, people recognise turkey as European.

Anyways, the debate is daft as Taiwan ain't joining NATO.

Interesting feedback from whogetsmyvote.org

Mostly Green with LibDem and Labour 2nd and 3rd place. Tories and Reform both in the red zone.

How come that Asian country is in the quarter finals of the Euros?

Fun fact:

c.12M of Turkey's population live in the part of the country that is in Europe, Slovenia only has c.2M population. So Europe's "native" population is 6 times as Turkish as it is Slovenian...

We have had two leaflets from the Tories and two from the LibDems but nothing from anybody else. Not seen any boards, banners or window stickers around. No canvassers have been spotted in the area. I’m sure the parties must be more active elsewhere but I have never seen such a lacklustre effort from all parties in an area for a General Election.

I wonder why 🤔

traipsing round hour after hour, come rain or shine. Pounding the streets day after day, stuffing leaflets in letter boxes that people don’t want, is one  thing, being stuck listening to you discuss politics, quite another.

Obsessed. Three different threads, three SOG name checks. Do you have Wile E Coyote and Road Runner style dreams about him when your dribbling on your armchair, having an little afternoon nap.

Beep beep.

Do you think that reading your fanboy posts about Nigel Farage and Margaret Thatcher is any better?

You are going to be ruled by a bunch of pinkos for the next 5 years at least Duckie. I feel for you, I really do.

Duckie thinks most of what we have had for the last 14 years are pinkos. Labour are pretty much commies.

Which is truly a fun fact.

Another fun fact, Turkey's native population is also 6 times more Turkish than the 12m that live in the European bit.

Coincidence or what?

I assume you mean Asian, rather than Turkish, as your post doesn't make sense...

Happy voting today everybody.

For those who are thinking of not voting…….maybe just have a vote anyway?  Democracy is a good thing even if you think all the people on the ballot paper aren’t.

Here’s hoping that the good people of Clacton see sense today and make it 8 times unlucky for the self proclaimed man/amphibian of the people,  “Nige.”  🐸 🤞
