stevy777_x Posted 20 June, 2024 Posted 20 June, 2024 I don’t to sound negative after the fantastic end of season, but last summer we knew exactly who was in charge of football operations. With the departure of Wilcox back in March, we had ample time to find a replacement and haven’t with the club preferring to promote within and use internal resources. So, who is in charge of transfers ? Is it a transfer committee like we used to have back in the day? Who does an agent contact at Saints to promote one of his players? Who decides to sell if we receive a big offer for one of our players? I have strictly no idea, if someone can clarify? 1

Does knowing a "name" give you any more idea about how our recruitment process works?!?! Our head of recruitment is Mowbray. Wilcox was director of football and oversaw the general restructuring of the playing and supporting staff, he wasn't our head of recruitment. Does that help you understand the transfer process, how we select players, how we negotiate for them? 😄 Edited 20 June, 2024 by Saint86 2 2

He stepped up once Jason left. And then others stepped up who were below Darren to fill his role. We've got stacks and stacks of scouts who are everywhere, Darren's original role was to head up that department and make sure the scouts had the right info/profiles to look for (whilst working closely with Wilcox)

Not seen it confirmed. The original question is a valid one. Who is currently fulfilling the role previously carried out by Wilcox? 1

I'm sure I read it on a release from the club, something along the lines of existing people will step up into the roles etc and I'm sure I read that Mowbray was moving into more of his role during the time he announced he was leaving. There was talk of them not replacing Wilcox at all, and just evolving existing roles.
SaintsLoyal Posted 20 June, 2024 Posted 20 June, 2024 Saints might appoint a new DOF now they’re in the PL, but until then it’s Mowbray and Mark Bitcon. Yes we got some money for Wilcox, but will now take six months to find someone else equilivant and doing s job already.
Nolan Posted 21 June, 2024 Posted 21 June, 2024 Article from the Athletic 30th June last 2023. How Jason Wilcox and Darren Mowbray’s new jobs will work at Southampton - The Athletic (nytimes.com) "Mowbray and Wilcox will lead recruitment as part of Southampton’s strand within Sport Republic’s centralised scouting system." "Scouts across the multi-club model will work underneath the pair, identifying targets who fit positional player profiles. Reports will be fed to Mowbray, who will then watch the players live. The 45-year-old attends as many as eight games a week during the season, domestically and abroad. If Mowbray approves, he and Wilcox will run the data, perform the necessary due diligence and evaluate whether the player meets the criteria and suits Martin’s heavy-possession-based style." and Echo from the 5th of May Southampton may not directly replace Wilcox after Man United move | Daily Echo "The Daily Echo understands the decision comes down to replacing Wilcox directly with a like-for-like replacement or increasing the responsibility of others." "Saints already have a head of recruitment in place, after Darren Mowbray joined the club from Scottish outfit Aberdeen last summer."

Miltonaggro Posted 21 June, 2024 Posted 21 June, 2024 Hand fucking crimped boys - the transfer business this window is in good artisan hands!
davefizzy14 Posted 22 June, 2024 Posted 22 June, 2024 Perhaps we will appoint from within with both Mark Bitcon and Darren Mowbray leading things in that regard.

You think that there is some " super brain" making all the key decisions. ! Every day they have someone toss a coin....and the winner makes the decisions for that day ....and then tomorrow...the same procedure. Sooner or later .....there will be a squad of former Prem. players -all over 30, and several new right-footed centre-backs. Easy. No problem. 1

The side was so good ...and almost unbeatable, and it was rumoured that team selection was so straightforward that even their tea lady could pick the side on a Saturday morning.
