Happy with that, no blocks of difficult games except May. Hopefully we will be safe by then.

Ipswich and Leicester have a difficult Christmas and January fixture list: 

Ipswich

  • 14/12 Wolves (A)
  • 21/12 Newcastle (H)
  • 26/12 Arsenal (A)
  • 29/12 Chelsea (H)
  • 04/01 Fulham (A)
  • 14/01 Brighton (H)
  • 18/01 Man City (H)
  • 25/01 Liverpool (A)

Leicester

  • 14/12 Newcastle (A)
  • 21/12 Wolves (H)
  • 26/12 Liverpool (A)
  • 29/12 Man City (H)
  • 04/01 Aston Villa (A)
  • 14/01 Crystal Palace (H)
  • 18/01 Fulham (H)
  • 25/01 Spurs (A)

Ending the season with Arsenal (h), Man City (h), and Everton (a) means we essentially need to be safe by the end of April or we're relegated. Grim.

In fact, if you look at our last batch of fixtures its a load of bogey games or title chasing sides...
We don't traditionally get man points at Spurs, Everton, or west ham. Leicester away is also a pretty shit game for us broadly (albeit this year i think they're a cert for relegation). And then City and Arsenal, whilst at home, will be fighting for the title/CL. God knows what Villa will be like by April, but probably out of europe and having a late season charge to catch up points on the European spots. Its a very very tough run into May and April.

August and September aren't bad, but when do saints ever start a season well? Could be the case that we drop points in our most critical games before we ever get going - clearly a good start will be required. Because Forest, Ipswich and Leicester at home in 3 of our first 4 home matches is our main relegation rivals out the way by November. 3 must win games. Everton as well on the 2nd November.

The Christmas break looks kind, not an awful lot of travelling, and broadly speaking some easier games during the peak congestion period.

The opposite often happens - we'll drop points against the teams we shouldn't, yet pickup the odd surprise result against the 'tough' games. Those end of season games are potentially a nightmare for those 'bigger' sides, especially if we're fighting for everything. If i was in their shoe I'd prefer not to be facing a 'relegation' side at the end of the season.

Look at us in our last season, we were pathetically bad - one of the worst ever PL teams, but still drew at Arsenal, beat Chelsea and drew against Utd. 

Be interesting to see how we shape up next season, all a bit unknown at the moment. The other 2 promoted sides will be saying the same.

Nonsense, the PL shouldn't have given two shits to that.

Just let them deal with whatever the draw handed them.

Been happening for years. All fixtures are manipulated to a degree.

And the Premier league obliged giving them the most winnable fixture as a send off. Everton probably actually requested us. (Although we did win there with Nathan Jones as manager)

Well it's not actually a "draw" because there are loads of considerations in play. The random element is quite a small part once all the conditions go into the fixture computer.

Making their last game an "uncontroversial" opponent is not unreasonable request. Exactly the same thing happened 20 years ago at Man City when we did them one nil in their final match at Maine Road.

Must only favour the bigger clubs, as we had Arsenal in our last league game at The Dell. Unless of course we asked for a "glamour game".

The most surprising thing for me is the number of games. September and October have three games each. We were doing that per week in the championship 😂

Seen a few Everton fans on Twitter moaning that they haven't got a bigger team for their last game and that a small team such as us shouldn't get the 'honour' of playing in the last game at Goodison.

Forgot how deluded some of their fans are. Would love to send them down.

Might be the last competitive game at Goodison but you'd imagine they'll arrange some send off game or a testamonial against a top European team. 

Be good to relegate them for good measure though

As others have said its a balanced set of fixtures, tough teams are usually followed by beatable ones.

The only tougher spots that stick out are the start of Dec (Chelsea(h)\Villa(a)\Spurs (h)) and May (Leicester(a)\Man City(h)\Everton(a)\Arse(h)).

Home points are key and Jan-Apr looks to have quite a lot of winnable home fixtures.

If we can keep up with the pace till Jan then we've given ourselves a decent shot of getting over the line. Must be clear of danger by May.

Don't be a fanny. We've beaten Everton, Spurs and West Ham away in relatively recent seasons. And haven't done too badly against Arsenal either.

If we're still in the mix in late April/May, there's nothing to say we won't pick up a few points with a bit of belief (though obviously it'll be tough...).

Anyway, it's all moot. We will be on the beach having qualified for the Champions League by May.
