saintwarwick Posted 28 January, 2009 Posted 28 January, 2009 IMO he isnt great, but does get stuck in which is what we need really. But is he better than Molyneux? It's too early to compare but I prefer Skacel on the left wing anyway so Molyneux can continue playing at left back. Get Skacel on the wing starting Saturday.
hypochondriac Posted 28 January, 2009 Author Posted 28 January, 2009 Here you go http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/DivisionalAssists/0,,10794~20067,00.html Eight assists along with Gareth Bale So that would be joint highest for the club when he was played in his preferred position?
saintwarwick Posted 28 January, 2009 Posted 28 January, 2009 So that would be joint highest for the club when he was played in his preferred position? Yep and that is why he needs to be in the team in his correct position.
saintwarwick Posted 28 January, 2009 Posted 28 January, 2009 So that would be joint highest for the club when he was played in his preferred position? Also chipped in with four goals http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Goalscorers/0,,10794~200610280~7,00.html

Chez Posted 28 January, 2009 Posted 28 January, 2009 I've never really liked him, primarily because his fitness was poor when he first came and he has failed to improve it since he got here. Perhaps he has never had an engine but to only last 60 minutes when playing in midfield is poor. Also he dives. In pretty much every single game you will see him stutter down towards the corner flag before allowing himself to be `touched' by the defender before falling over to `win' a free kick. This helps Saints but I hate it, sorry but cheating like that is crap and every now and then the ref spots it and doesn't give it and we end up being in trouble. What I really hate though is when he shirks his responsibilites defensively because he seems lazy. I'm talking about not getting into the correct positions early because that would take effort, not tracking the runner cos that would be tiring, not tucking in or covering round because he just can't be bothered. Perhaps this is all down to his poor engine, perhaps its down to him not being a fullback, either way I find it hard to excuse which perhaps is unfair. What I saw at Reading was beyond the pale. He had a good game, but in the second half a simple one two from Reading that put their guy in could easily have been prevented but Skacel just shrugged his shoulders and acted as though it was the midfielders man when it was quite obviously his. I am not sure how else to describe the incident other than him being extremely lazy and not giving a **** - which almost cost us. Let me counter my own criticisms by saying I think he should be in the side, he is better than Molyneux (from the little I have seen) and Holmes, he has a great first touch and great ability on the ball. I have also been impressed by his heading ability since going to fullback. I also think he has been treated very poorly by the management and forgive him wanting away. The way he has been treated who wanted want away?
Greedyfly Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 I've been banging on about this for nearly 2 years - glad a few other people agree.. Completely agree with you too. Skacel and Rasiak should have been first names on that teamsheet. Skacel still should be. He got berated badly yet created so many goal scoring oportunities when he was utilised properly. To be fair that could have been the difference between Burley being a hero OR the useless ****wit he turned out to be.
slickmick Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 No reason for him not to play this weekend with Holmes out injured. No one will buy the excuse that he got injured during training again.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 I think its true Skacel did not fit in with Bales rising game. His best attributes and scoring opportunities at Hearts came from drifting in and playing in the hole with the striker almost, but that was not going to happen here. If you watch him closely across a given game, much of his skill at LB is about his clever reading of a situation and being able to use it to his best advantage - i.e. this is experience shining through and not many Saints players have got it now. Le Saux was from the same mould. It sets a player apart from the pack IMO - he is a Prem level player with a good footballing brain playing in a team continually mismanaged in a really tough and brutish league. As far as his attitude goes, I think his remarks are understandable when he says he'll look for something better if he doesn't get played. FFS the guy is a professional. He has shown remarkable dignity in front of home fans - he waves occasionally to the crowd ONLY when his name is called by the fans - SO WHAT?! Damned if you do, damned if you don't - typical of some on here.
saint-ross Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 Give me one example on the pitch? When I've seen him he's always looked one of our most commited players. He seems to be becoming more and more lazy as time passes. Did anyone see in the man utd game where one of our lads (cant remember who McLaggon i think) dribbled almost straight into him coz he just stood there, didnt find a supporting position or show any desire for the ball or to create anything. In the game against palace when our second goal was conceded, skacel could be seen marking no one, then shouting at one of our nippers to pick the man up, by which time it was too late. Skacel saw the danger he should have just dealt with it, not pass the buck. Just a couple of examples, but as one of the higher paid players he should be providing better service to the club. People talk about his potential and how we dont get the best from him. I think its his attitude more than anything else. Kelvin Davis can be quoted as naming him the laziest player in training also.
samwhocan Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 I agree with alex. Not a dig but are you a season ticket holder? Yes... yes I am! So in short there are a few people who dislike him. Pretty sure i could pick any player in the squad and would be able to find someone who could have a moan... Not just a few. At least not where I'm sitting (Northam), apart from one bloke who must have had a civil ceremony with him! You can moan at most players, this is true, but they haven't all got attitude problems...

Well we will never agree. I would argue that 99% of his "attitude problem" is media constructed or on here. Anything else is because he has been treated like crap by the club. Anyway it doesn't really matter because his stats speak for themselves when heis played in his best position.
Runaway Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 All this discussion is moot, because he's asked to leave Saints (hence left out of the Norwich game) and is finalising a contract with another club as we speak.
sfc6mufc3 Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 tis true http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7858760.stm
St Marco Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 He'd be in my first team every week wide left. 100% agree. The past managers and club have treated him awful. If you kept being shipped out to another job every 6 months and then were told to do a different job to the one your familiar with you would be ****ed too. This season i felt Skacel has done well and has tried a hell of a lot, more then what Wotte says today. He should be played on the left as in our promotion chasing season he was our top assister....

rooney Posted 29 January, 2009 Posted 29 January, 2009 He never came up to expectations, but then that is the difference between football in the Scottish Premier and the Championship League here I guess.
