Challenger Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 You can imagine the WAGS excitedly sat in the stands with the " on the beach" website already up on their phones. 5
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 Passing it back and across. Fine, because it drew them out. Good pass through the midfield. Going well. Got to Foden, who could have gone out into the space. But he automatically cuts in and back it goes. Southgate 45 mins from the end of his time. I think he was going to choose to go anyway at the end of the tournament. But to go out with a whimper is poor. And to go out because you didn't have Shaw, Maguire and Henderson covering up basic gaps is pretty grim.

SNSUN Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 Abysmal is the word. Effort has been there perhaps but that's it.
Sunglasses Ron Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 That was a horrible watch. Bellingham, Foden, Kane, Saka all absolute gash (as they’ve been for most the tournament).
Sheaf Saint Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 That's up there with the worst England performances I've ever watched. 1
James Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 Don’t have any faith in Southgate to change this. How he has watched the first 3 games and served up shite like this with no changes is ridiculous. It’s actually impressive that he’s made a team this talented look this bad. 2

egg Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 This Mainoo lad is a conundrum. Can look amazing at times, then goes missing, and often seems to be hiding rather than finding space. He's got something though.
SaintsBarry74 Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 Just to remind you the oppositions national sport is ice hockey. Ice hockey.

I’m struggling to understand why England haven’t had that in total this tournament with the talent we have.

SNSUN Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 Shame we can only make 5 subs really. If Southgate doesn't make any half time subs he's going to want to stay in Germany forever.
S-Clarke Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 The worst of the bunch from this tournament. I honestly don't think any changes fix this, the entire team and squad is disjointed and unbalanced. The coaching is utterly horrific. No tactical understanding of the modern game from any of them. They can throw on Palmer and Gordon, but if they follow the same horrendous coaching instruction then it's just pointless. Every single game we've played this entire calendar year has been absolutley inept. It's all broken quite deep and 'tweaks' in a single game at HT aint fixing this rabble. 2

HarvSFC Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 Very reminiscent of us under Selles. A lot of pointless passing between the backline, a lot of aimless punts being soaked up by the opposition defence when it does go forward. Only real threat looks from a set-piece and nobody's working hard to put pressure on the opposition when we don't have the ball. 0 shots on target and nothing clear cut being created. Only this England team is a lot more talented than that Saints one, which makes it all the more impressive from Southgate.
CB Fry Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 Southgate resigning tomorrow won't be great for Sunak trying to land his last minute campaign messages. 1

AlexLaw76 Posted 30 June, 2024 Author Posted 30 June, 2024 He has changed Gallagher for Mainoo. That is it! not changed anything else. What is he thinking!!!!
The Kraken Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 Beyond awful. If Shaw is halfway fit he’s got to come on and give us at least a tiny bit of something down the left. Foden having a stinker but it’s all so predictable down there, Trippier is only going to cut in each time. Probably have TAA on for Walker too, get some width from the full backs. Then take your pick for the other 3 subs.

Martin always had the goal of trying to move opponents, allowing passing opportunities at pace. We got to see the best and worst of that developing. It doesn't seem as though Southgate really knows what the outcomes of trying that approach are, or how to get there. Trusting far too much on individuals in a system that requires teamwork to be effective. Then hampering it further by putting in players who aren't good fits to the system. Foden/ Trippier mentioned a lot. But setting up to move opponents, and not doing it to support Saka, who is keen to get behind has been very frustrating.

SaintsBarry74 Posted 30 June, 2024 Posted 30 June, 2024 The last run we had in the Euros was a joke: all games at Wembley, barely any opposition fans, and a dodgy penalty gifted in the semi-final. At some point, Southgate's luck must run out.
