And to add insult to injury having the decisions explained by an American woman to a Premier League manager and two top ex footballers. It's bollocks.... I can see me getting very irate next season.

Lots of managers/players don't seem to know the rules fully 😄 In this case I had trouble following her explaination as she didn't have a clear voice , could be the accent so relied on the slo mo , which wasn't always clear . ITV will have to up their game .

VAR I thought would be better in the Euros than our Prem but last night the match was ruined for me . It turned the game into a lottery . The handball watched at normal speed was pretty unavoidable I thought the the mm offside just silly what advantage is that ? Perhaps they could add to the rules of offside that if it couldn't be detected by a human in normal speed then the attacker gets the benefit of the doubt . At least we would have more goals to celebrate .

They might know the Laws though.

Istr that exactly what was touted about VAR when it was introduced. This of course is before the degree of pedantry which makes even the most officious H&S inspector look like a wild child was introduced.

I was so pumped up to see us get promoted, I hope I don’t start wishing for the good ole pre VAR championship days before the upcoming season is out. It’s a pure joy hoover.

The handball was certainly debateable but that is an issue with the interpretation of the rules, not VAR. According to the rules as they are it was the correct decision so Michael Oliver had no choice but to give it. It's what constitutes a handball that needs looking at.

The offside I don't have a problem with as it's factual. The line has to be drawn somewhere, you can't just say it was close so we'll give the goal. It's either offside or it's not, no matter how small the margin. Personally I would rather they used the feet as the marker but that wouldn't have made a difference to that Denmark goal anyway.

As for your last point, VAR has also given goals that were disallowed on field, it doesn't just take them away.

There was also a case for keeping Germany as host in the competition at any cost.

Once they had settled Denmark were by far the better side and deseved to win.

The thing that stood out yesterday was that handballs are now a binary thing. There used to be a bit of nuance (ball to hand etc) but now if the attacking team touch the ball with a hand, it's disallowed, the defending team do it and it's a penalty.

Not to say it's right or wrong, but it's different from the way the game has always been played. So if this is here to stay then it should be been communicated to avoid these surprises.

The American ref lady on TV last night was saying that proximity is not longer a factor in handball decisions. Imo that's a bit shit, but if that's the rule and it's enforced consistently then they'll even out over the season or something.

I see now why the VAR decisions were made (thanks for the laws update!) But it spoiled my enjoyment of the match and I wasn't even taking sides .

Vest seemed ok in this match , no major clangers 😄

Players have already been playing for ball to arm penalties- and practising for ball to arm penalties - for quite some time.

It's quite a skill though totally outside of the spirit of the game and next season in the EPL I hope our team is up to speed on it.

When Southgate said he had noone to fill the Phillips role, he was really kicking himself for not being brave enough to reach down a division for Downes.

And to put KWP on the left of defence.

Yes . Channon played for England when playing in the old division2

Southgate really gambling with that lineup

Got to love a lack of imagination.

Saka on the left would add width, especially given Tripper is so one footed.

Foden should be dropped, he was poor before but given he’s flown to the UK and back in the last five days would suggest he isn’t match fit.

Palmer should be playing.

Much as others have said. Mainoo a better option than TAA. But if Foden moves in, Rice is doing a lot of support for one footed Trippier and if Mainoo moves out of position.

Higher tempo, quicker passing are musts so the weaknesses aren't exploited. Hopefully, Southgate has sat them down with a few RussBall videos to show them how it's done.🙂

Trippier should not be in this team

Yep. That was sloppy. Fair play to Guehe though, doing what he had to do knowing that's him out if we get through.

I dunno, 2 yellows and the worst shot you'll ever see, so more excitement than normal. Or something.

Two poor efforts from Walker. Players in there. Misses them all first time, doesn't bother getting it in at all second. Then caught out as Slovakia attack.

England seem almost pushed into attacking in response to Slovakia's strong start. 3 early cards.

They’re so hesitant, Walker should have crossed and bottled it, Saka should have done when he got to the line. Then Walker makes a terrible mess and Slovakia somehow don’t score. Slovakia should be 3-0 up already, they’re miles better than England so far, better more progressive footballers and a better team. They’ve certainly found where England’s weaknesses are and unlike the group teams are willing to exploit them.

Now Bellingham’s booked, with Mainoo booked early, England will be down to 10 shortly. England players look similar to what Saints faced last season in the Championship last season, it shows you how much the overseas stars make them look half decent.

I reckon we'll see one by half time. I'm taking Bellingham.

Zero movement upfront again. What do they work on in training?

I think they just play darts and film M & S adverts

Mainoo for me. Young, willing to impress, one foot wrong and he's toast.

Yeah no Guehi for the Quarters (if it matters). Dunk, Konsa or Gomez then. Dunk for me.

If it matters...

It will. I fancy us to win by a couple. Those would be normal choices. He'll probably slide Walker across to get Trent (TM) in.
