What a beautiful cross from Armstrong!

You could tell by their faces what it meant to those players.

We had a few good players then not so today

Was this the game where Lawrie Mac said afterwards: " it was a difficult game but we came away with the win, an assortment of mixed fruit & veg, and £4.20 in loose change".

Yeah. Excellent comment from the era.

It was a very, very good team at the time. Able to withstand, and soak up pressure, and yet have the confidence, ability and belief, to patiently win the game. People nod their heads sagely and say, we'll never see a team like that again. But I'll never say that. There's always hope around the corner. It just might be a long, long way off.

yep I never get bored of watching that.seeing 6000 saints fans celebrating like that in the vipers den warms the ****les of my heart.

It was David Armstrong who does the Radio Hants summaries who provided the cross ,for the younger fans on here.

i bet it was carnage that day.....

NO one cared , still get a buzz from it .

The Skates were chanting " Scummers Scummers here we come" and we were all thinking about what the parks and hill lane would be like for the replay when Steve Moran pops it in, WHAT A DAY

Me, my brother and my dad ended up with about 25 steps of terracing between us after the celebrations had calmed down. We had all been standing next to each other. It was complete and utter bedlam and the most fantastic explosion of joy and elation ever experienced by me still at a footy match. Beating those bastards who were throwing bags of **** at us, and bananas at our black players right at the death was bliss. That is why saints are great (still) compared to those gippo ****s in their shed(which they can't even fill against a top four team) down the road.

A brilliant brilliant day.

Well the official number was 9,000 with those in the seats (25% of 36,000 in those days), tho' unofficially a few more with those forged fartton end tickets.

But as 'Didcot Saint' says "complete and utter bedlam and the most fantastic explosion of joy and elation"...you had to be there.

One of the most eventfull days in my life, so much happened from the minute we left Totton. It got very interesting once our train got to Portchester and people got on wearing blue scarves!!! The walk up Goldsmith avenue was fun both to Farton and back to the station afterwards. Can anyone remember arriving at Farton station and seeing loads of Skates lining up along the top of the embankment behind the grey wall shouting 'scummers' at us! The ol bill told us that we would be escorted up to the ground but when we got past the coppers at the station entrance it was a free for all!!! No ol bill to be seen out in Goldsmith Avenue, I reckon they were stretched to the limit that day. I saw people with bloodied faces after being slashed with Stanley knives ( not nice ) When we got in the ground at 2pm it was already half full and rockin! The atmosphere by 3pm was like nothing you've heard, it was electric and 'very nasty' Can you remember those retards on the North terrace?( the ones that coined Mark Dennis ) Obviously the goal in the 90th minute went down like a lead balloon with them and we must have been kept in the ground for 30-45 mins and once we got out there were still skates hiding down side streets wanting some! I remember the police escort back was charged by the skates on several occasions as they tried to get at us and some of us wanted it and tried to break out of the escort. I remember some dopey skates on their flat balconies shouting abuse at us only for the saints fans to kick down a wall and throw bricks at them, watching them scramble back in their flats was rather amusing! There is so much more I could add to this but i'd take a while!

What a day, went mental like I have never done before, even my Dad lept around like a lunatic not seen since May 1st 1976. That was the day that I realised that they hated us more than we hated them. Just watching that for the 1,000 th time it has only just dawned on me what a great pass to Armstrong by Worthington. HAPPY DAYS.

SCUMMERS he we come...DONT THINK SO!

Oh what a brilliant day out that was, and seeing the all those saints fans going mental was a fantastic sight, as I was one of the many who was in the Fratton End, and god did they not like it one bit.

They were stunned into silence.

I recall walking up Goldsmiths avenue and no police were around. Got to the top where the coaches were to pick us up and then all of a sudden fights breaking out, even 2 old codgers were at it!!! I have never felt the tension like it before. The crew who were there were very handy, many I had not seen at games ever before. There were some real hard cases with us.I recall the tea wagon being rolled over in our section (Im sure it was at that game)

So many games watched, cant remember a thing, (mostly the last two seasons!!) but that day it all sticks!

never went down so many terrace steps when we scored ever again, sheer bliss!

Oh for the chance again to wipe out 2005 now. one day......

Yes i was thinking same thing, my best and worst moments supporting Saints in the same ground about 40 yards apart spread over 21 years.
