Similar to us having a throw in specialist in Rory Delap and not realising it until it's too late.😀 As for the rest of the Premier League, I don't think we're going to see much movement for a while yet, although there always seems to be one club that likes to get in there early with their transfer business. Apparently Enzo Maresca to Chelsea is done.

SNSUN
Leicester City - 4/9. Everton - 10/11. Ipswich Town - 10/11. Nottingham Forest - 7/4. Southampton - 7/4. Wolves - 7/2. Brentford - 4/1. Fulham - 5/1. We are, somewhat surprisingly, only 5th favourites to get relegated next season according to the Bookies. Leicester are obviously favourites because of their impending points deduction, I assume Everton likewise.

What I find encouraging is that there are a good number of clubs other than the newly promoted clubs in the list. I’m surprised to not see Bournemouth in the list too - Brighton are too well funded/run now to be in danger of a bottom three place, but who knows what the new season will bring? WRT Saints placing, this will be largely determined by the success of our summer transfer business - break the squad up too much and lose the feel-good factor - sign too few or low quality players and RM’s system will be quickly found out at Prem level leading to a similar result to the 22/23 relegation season. Just reading North Stand chat and there seems to be some uncertainty about the future there, about the fact the don't seem to have a managerial target in place (despite being the "well run" club they are and planning for every eventuality) and that players they have could want out. They also have some ageing players in Welbeck, Milner, Dunk, Gross and Veltman so I can see why they'd be uneasy. As you say (and as we found out), you're only a couple of bad transfer windows (or the wrong managerial appointment) away from relegation in the Premier League unless you're one of the big seven.

They could get deduced 50 - 60 points and would still stay up. I suspect that's what'll happen - the PL will deduct them a stupid amount of points, but enough to give them a chance of staying up. Ultimatley, its not in the best interests of the PL to relegat one of its biggest sides.

S-Clarke
I think this is actually a decent season to be promoted. Everton by all accounts are getting another points deduction, Leicester's is pretty much confirmed too. Both of those sides will be forced to sell their key assets before they can even move. So straight away you'll have two teams potentially starting from negative figures, with weaker teams than they have today. Throw in a financially screwed Forest, and a quickly declining Brentford and 4 of the bottom teams aren't as daunting as it could have been. The one side I'm interested in is Ipswich - as a squad I think they're on par with Luton in respect of them being a 'team' rather than having any standout individuals, but the manager factor may just give them an edge - maybe...but it'll still be tough for them given the lack of top level quality in their squad. As long as we make a decent fist of our recruitment then we should be fine imo.

Despite promotion, our recruitment was just OK in my opinion and we got away with getting in some average players or players that didn't contribute much- Charles, Stewart, Brooks, Rothwell - and prior to last season, our recruitment was often very poor with Carillo, Onuachu arguably Sulemana, DCC etc. Hopefully a change of approach will improve our success rate in that area.

I think our loan signings were the success stories this season, and by all accounts they weren't 'club scouted' options - they were managers picks and/or DoF (Wilcox) setups. Fraser - Martin knew him well, manager pick. THB - Wilcox setup. Downes - Martin knew him well, as well as his coaching staff. Manager pick. Brooks - Wilcox setup. Of the signings that were more 'club wide' based on scouting etc and not based on any specific manager relationships, it's a very poor show. Charles, Stewart, Holgate, Rothwell. The jury is still totally out on our recruitment under SR imo. Like you say, it'll be interesting to see what we do this summer and who we actually lean on for the recommendations. FarehamSaintJames
Those hoping that Man City will be deducted points - hilarious. Everton will probably get a marginal one again. Leicester will get maybe ten points (if we’re lucky). I don’t think Forest will.
