Figured we may as well get this rolling now we know all the teams and people are starting to make moves...

Fair play to McKenna

Understand he'll  be one of the highest paid in the league. Ipswich definitely placing a big bet on him succeeding, fair play to them, we owe them next season should never have lost twice.

What odds on JWP scoring a free kick for West Ham at St Mary's to beat Beckhams record before running in front of the Northam wall doing a golf swing?

It's incredible that he's completed a whole season with them and not scored one free kick. He should come back and start scoring them again for us.

We were terrible in the first game, but how we contrived the lose the second game still baffles me

I think Paqueta is first choice free kick taker for them. Quite funny.

If we'd have won that game, and the Middlesbrough & Blackburn draws were wins, things would have looked hugely different going into the final run.

Similar to us having a throw in specialist in Rory Delap and not realising it until it's too late.😀

As for the rest of the Premier League, I don't think we're going to see much movement for a while yet, although there always seems to be one club that likes to get in there early with their transfer business.

Apparently Enzo Maresca to Chelsea is done.

He wont be for much longer. Looking at potentially a career ending ban for spot fixing

  • Leicester City - 4/9.
  • Everton - 10/11.
  • Ipswich Town - 10/11.
  • Nottingham Forest - 7/4.
  • Southampton - 7/4.
  • Wolves - 7/2.
  • Brentford - 4/1.
  • Fulham - 5/1.

We are, somewhat surprisingly, only 5th favourites to get relegated next season according to the Bookies. Leicester are obviously favourites because of their impending points deduction, I assume Everton likewise.

Sad to see how far off Brighton and Bournemouth we are now.

Rollback 8 years and people would be laughing you out of the room if you suggested we'd be worse than those two.

Teams like Saints and those two are only ever one bad transfer window or managerial appointment from a relegation fight. We went from sixth and three points of CL football to needing a win at Swansea to survive in two years.

What I find encouraging is that there are a good number of clubs other than the newly promoted clubs in the list. I’m surprised to not see Bournemouth in the list too - Brighton are too well funded/run now to be in danger of a bottom three place, but who knows what the new season will bring?

WRT Saints placing, this will be largely determined by the success of our summer transfer business - break the squad up too much and lose the feel-good factor - sign too few or low quality players and RM’s system will be quickly found out at Prem level leading to a similar result to the 22/23 relegation season.

Surprised that Man City aren't in the top five. How many points will they be deducted?

Roll forwards 8 years and it'll all change again. Medium sized clubs like us, brighton etc. just cannot sustain long periods of success without significant investment.

I believe Man City are 25-1 which is crazy for a team that just won 4 Premier Leagues in a row. I guess the Bookies figure that even if they got a points deduction they'd still have the quality to be well clear of relegation by the end of the season.

Just reading North Stand chat and there seems to be some uncertainty about the future there, about the fact the don't seem to have a managerial target in place (despite being the "well run" club they are and planning for every eventuality) and that players they have could want out. They also have some ageing players in Welbeck, Milner, Dunk, Gross and Veltman so I can see why they'd be uneasy. As you say (and as we found out), you're only a couple of bad transfer windows (or the wrong managerial appointment) away from relegation in the Premier League unless you're one of the big seven.

They could get deduced 50 - 60 points and would still stay up.

I suspect that's what'll happen - the PL will deduct them a stupid amount of points, but enough to give them a chance of staying up.

Ultimatley, its not in the best interests of the PL to relegat one of its biggest sides.

This is probably killing MLG so I’ll help him out. We’re joint 4th favourites in your list, not 5th.

Really weird Premier League now, seven clubs from London, only five Northen clubs and three on the south coast. Hardly representative of the country as a whole.

Yes I read somewhere that just 5 clubs from the North of England (2 each from Manchester and Merseyside, plus Newcastle) in the EPL is the lowest number since its formation.

Ooh good spot. Either way I'd take a 17th place season next season with bells on.

If we were four up and it was in the last five minutes I'd love to see that. It looked like he would breeze past Beckham's record but a bit like Tiger Woods and his masters wins it hasn't quite happened.

I don't like wishing hardship on others but karma would say Everton going into administration and -15 point deduction would be fair after bribing Hans Segers and would help us, fingers crossed

Like JRM, admin for them would only help us.

Their dodgy approach to trying to meet PRS rules, from loan applications to inflated covid impacts lowers the sympathy for them.

Leicester and Everton in minus points is a good start for us.

100 point deduction for City and we’re as good as safe already

I think this is actually a decent season to be promoted. Everton by all accounts are getting another points deduction, Leicester's is pretty much confirmed too. Both of those sides will be forced to sell their key assets before they can even move. So straight away you'll have two teams potentially starting from negative figures, with weaker teams than they have today. Throw in a financially screwed Forest, and a quickly declining Brentford and 4 of the bottom teams aren't as daunting as it could have been.

The one side I'm interested in is Ipswich - as a squad I think they're on par with Luton in respect of them being a 'team' rather than having any standout individuals, but the manager factor may just give them an edge - maybe...but it'll still be tough for them given the lack of top level quality in their squad.

As long as we make a decent fist of our recruitment then we should be fine imo.

I think our recruitment will be very interesting. Despite promotion, our recruitment was just OK in my opinion and we got away with getting in some average players or players that didn't contribute much- Charles, Stewart, Brooks, Rothwell - and prior to last season, our recruitment was often very poor with Carillo, Onuachu arguably Sulemana, DCC etc. Hopefully a change of approach will improve our success rate in that area.

At some point it seems Everton will go down - it's just a matter of when. Annoyingly Dyche was the right manager for them at the right time but even he would struggle to get a points deducted Everton safe... surely! (Cue Everton surviving AGAIN)

I think our loan signings were the success stories this season, and by all accounts they weren't 'club scouted' options - they were managers picks and/or DoF (Wilcox) setups.

Fraser - Martin knew him well, manager pick. THB - Wilcox setup. Downes - Martin knew him well, as well as his coaching staff. Manager pick. Brooks - Wilcox setup.

Of the signings that were more 'club wide' based on scouting etc and not based on any specific manager relationships, it's a very poor show. Charles, Stewart, Holgate, Rothwell.

The jury is still totally out on our recruitment under SR imo. Like you say, it'll be interesting to see what we do this summer and who we actually lean on for the recommendations.

Charles I would have thought might have been a Wilcox link, Martin stressed how he’d wanted to sign Stewart at previous clubs.

Holgate … well there was no rhyme or reason behind that. One of those signings that probably no one will admit to.

I can see the reasoning for Holgate. He had performed OK in this league before and we needed to strengthen the back line and Everton wanted rid. Was disastrous though no doubt.

Those hoping that Man City will be deducted points - hilarious.

Everton will probably get a marginal one again.

Leicester will get maybe ten points (if we’re lucky).

I don’t think Forest will.

I see our rivals this season being Forest, Brentford, Ipswich, Fulham with Leicester and Everton only being rivals due to the points deductions. This is a big season to be promoted because immediately we are on a positive footing compared to others.

He was Everton’s player of the year in the Prem 2019/20 under Ancelotti. Goes to show what a manager he is, because that genuinely ranks as a more impressive achievement than winning the Champions League five times.

Absolutely no idea how Everton got Ancelotti as a manger. Regarding Holgate, he clearly has ability. His issue is more mental than anything else. He's seemingly a mess.
