Loan players, returnees and losses

Just read an article that according to the Bournemouth manager David Brooks will definitely be going back there next season come what may, I started to wonder what the loanee situation was down at St Mary's, I have to admit I've lost track of it all.

so who might be coming back, and who might be returning to their parent clubs? I guess Downes is top of the list, the new manager at West Ham will at least want to take a look at him, but apart from him I'm not sure what's what?

Well, in terms of players with us:

THB (will join permanently if we go up)

Downes

Fraser

Brooks

Rothwell

But coming back in the summer (as it stands):

Perraud

Lyanco

Bella-Kotchap

Alcaraz

Onuachu

Lis

Plus a number of academy lads.

DCC is out on loan, but believe there's an obligation to buy for Lyon.

To be honest, Alcaraz aside, I wouldn't want any of them back, particularly if we go up so hope we can find them all a home.

Good idea for a thread.

Loans to return to us:

Charly Alcaraz

Armel Bella-Kotchap

Paul Onuachu

Romain Perraud

Lyanco

Mateasuz Lis

Loans with obligation for parent club to buy:

Duje Caleta-Carr

Players out of contract:

Stuart Armstrong

Che Adams

Alex McCarthy

Loans to return to their parent club:

Ryan Fraser

Taylor Harwood-Bellis (£20m option to buy, only valid upon promotion)

David Brooks

Joe Rothwell

Flynn Downes

Into their final year: (potentially forced to sell if they don't re-sign, can't afford to lose any of these assets for free)

Jack Stephens

Jan Bednarek

Adam Armstrong

Kyle Walker Peters

Surely if we go up, Stephens and A Armstrong aren't getting new contracts? I know Armstrong has predominantly played out wide this season, but is he good enough to play there in the Premier? Certainly can't play through the middle.

I'd be surprised if AA isn't offered a new contract in either scenario. He's hit 23 goals (so far) this season and has over 30 goal contributions, he's definitely earnt another crack at the PL if we get there in my eyes - and we need to protect our investment too.

Get Lyanco back, need his fist pumping passion back in the team.

The fact he can't play football is irrelevant. It's character we need.

People loved that, but it was the most irritating thing ever. I don't mind THB doing it as he does on the back of being good at football, but when all you can offer as a footballer is celebrating conceding a corner then it's probably time to call it a day.

A Armstrong has done enough to deserve another shot at the PL. Could be very different with a manager who knows how best to play him

I'm torn on this. On one hand, I agree that if he is played regularly in a settled, confident team with a clear playing style (unlike his previous stint in the PL), then I think he deserves another go. He's the best finisher we have, and if we could find a good way to create chances for him then he will still be a real asset.

But another part of me thinks that realistically the Championship is his ceiling, and that the PL really is a step up too far for him.

Perraud (far better than Bree or Manning), ABK, Onuachu, and (obviously) Alcaraz, would all be getting game time for us next season in the champ if they were here.

Depending on what happens with Bednarek and TBH, i can see Lyanco in this system as well.

We'll have further outgoings this summer (players out of contract being the most obvious one), but the above are a reasonable set of players to return for championship team.

Four goals over two seasons in the Premier League does suggest that his level is where we are at now.

With the gorilla it’s unfortunately the wrong type of fist pumping 🦍 🍌

Despite the fact none of them wanted to stay this season, you think they'll be here with us in the championship next season?

Perraud is a much better wing back than Manning and is the type of player we will need (and can afford) should we make it to the PL. Manning will be out of his depth up there. Otherwise I agree only Alcaraz looks like he has the right qualities eventually to succeed at the higher level.

Mind you it is all a bit academic because we wiill not be promoted and will be thankful for it. Imagine the humiliation of being pummelled every week and falling back into the Championship in our first year. All the loanees will be gone, our two or three decent players will jump ship and Martin will be left to sort out the scraps that remain if he is not fired or decides to leave for pastures new.

What? Like RM has not got the best out of him? Baffling comment. Or do you mean Has did not know how to get best out of him but RM clearly does? Hope you meant the latter!😃

Or....  It just means RM didn't manage him in the PL.

Not sure why that is baffling?

For the "hard-of-understanding" @Weston Super Saint has it correct. RM did not manage AA in the PL. Those who did, did not know how to get the best out of him.

after Adams leaves,  AA will  be the only finisher we have.   It will be hard enough replacing Adams with a goalscorer of ANY real merit,

but losing AA as well would be  a catastrophe, and new players will have to learn " Russball " PDQ.

Adam is also a very good defender ...when he's not scoring goals and assisting others.
