Hopefully the Sunderland game goes ahead at the weekend, I wouldn't want to fall too far behind even with games in hand. Long way for Sunderland to come without plenty of notice though.

I can see the Northam singing "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire!"

First match thread where people aren’t asking if there are any streams for tonight. Out of interest does anyone know if any are available?

Probably not worth it, just got a bad feeling that we’re just not going to turn up tonight…

I think all streams are being used to douse the flames.

Some years ago there was a massive fire in a Liebherr warehouse in Newport Pagnell which covered the area in black smoke. Numerous local businesses had to evacuate their premises. Is this Marcus trying to tell us something?

Black smoke… sack … bloke.. MARTIN OUT

If St Marys was ever devastated where would we play our home games. Is there a decent stadium nearby?

Bournemouth? Or Reading for the size?

Reading would suit me tbh

Reading would be the obvious choice. Bournmouth too small. Reasonably easy access by train.

Ryan Lowe:

"First and foremost, the safety of everyone involved - around the ground - it is important that nobody is injured or hurt. And then obviously, our supporters who've travelled all the way and taken the day off work to come - we really appreciate that. As always, you travel and you support. Unfortunately, there is no game to play tonight but we will look forward to getting back to Deepdale on Saturday afternoon and hopefully we can perform for you."

"The smoke is still there. We haven't really known; we've tried to contact Southampton. Then, we obviously got the call. The lads have seen stuff on social media. The most important thing is that everyone is fine and then the second one, is that you can't go into the ground with smoke like that - there could be all kinds of chemicals in there. We'll get back up the road and it gives us two days of preparation now, for Stoke, which is important. We'll be ready for Saturday afternoon."

I actually admire his love of a great song and spontaneous approach. But the last few seconds trouble me ...

Fire would have been out hours ago but the fire fighters fannied around at end of the street with the hose and when they got to the fire no one would turn it on and point it at the fire...

They passed the hose to the fireman at the front and he passed it straight back.

I think it's still burning and the back wall is onto the pre match family area so is a little bit a health and safety nightmare. Gutted as think we might have had a good game

I believe it's known as 'ending with a Shipperley".

Some of the players volunteered to help, Smallbone went to tackle the blaze but it went straight past him, Manning rushed in to help but was at the wrong building, Sulemana was first on the scene, using his lightning pace, but immediately turned round and ran back the other way, hasn’t been seen since, Che was on the hose but sprayed the building two doors down. At least they were brave.

I have heard that because of safety concerns , which assume is toxic material in the stadium, there will need to be an inspection before Saturdays game can go ahead.

We’re bringing in a specialist to help facilitate.

Thought we'd banned Westwood?

Interesting that the affected building is owned by Saints apparently, wonder what they had in mind for it eventually.

You can’t be a long time supporter. Many of us longer standing fans know this was the intended site of the monkey-chicken petting zoo.

An insurance jobby, apparently.

Originally it was bought to be our trophy warehouse.

Odd though that the fire lasted so long in an empty building.

It can’t have been empty. All that black smoke must have come from something. A pile of car tyres or a source of fuel oil.
