Tamesaint Posted 24 February, 2024 Posted 24 February, 2024 Unless we get out of this run of form asap do we give up on automatic and just concentrate on getting ourselves into the play offs in the best possible form?? ... And winning the FA Cup of course. 😁😁

Lighthouse Posted 24 February, 2024 Posted 24 February, 2024 How do you 'just concentrate on the playoffs'? How is it any different from trying to win every game, like we have been up until now? 4

Just make sure you don’t overdo it, and win too many games otherwise me might miss the play offs and go up automatically. 4
Ted Bates Statue Posted 24 February, 2024 Posted 24 February, 2024 At least under Adkins the last lot had the decency to get us promoted and kindly kept us up before they decided their heads were in Liverpool.
die Mannyschaft Posted 24 February, 2024 Posted 24 February, 2024 Lowest points total for championship playoff was 68 points. Average 74 so we should be able to win even just a few games.

Ensure that there are no key players missing due to suspension. Eg Bednarek currently on 9 yellows. Go into the playoffs on a decent run of form. 2
Kenilworthy Posted 24 February, 2024 Posted 24 February, 2024 The important thing is to be 3rd or 4th so the second leg is at home. The thought of having to go to Hull, West Brom, Coventry or Norwich and having to get something from a second away leg is horrific. That means we just have to keep going. Although maybe right at the end of the season we might decide tactically to finish 4th to ensure we play a team we are able to beat - that means avoiding Norwich. 2
OnceaSaintalwaysaSaint Posted 25 February, 2024 Posted 25 February, 2024 Some say look at the opposition team before deciding your own line up. I say put out your strongest team every game. A player gets replaced when either crocked or suspended. Matchday programmes used to have a double page spread where you could easily see who had played every game and who was coming in from time to time. Without doing the analysis and my memory is short, I bet during Oct/Nov/Dec, we were often playing an unchanged team which builds understanding, confidence and a winning mentality. With cup games, additional players in the transfer window and Jack S being shoehorned in to the matchday team, RM is now constantly tinkering with the team. Stop it. 1

VectisSaint Posted 25 February, 2024 Posted 25 February, 2024 Its no good concentrating on the play-offs. What we have to do now is concentrate on consistently getting results. The way we are playing at the moment we will probably get to the playoffs and lose in the semi final. You need to go into the playoffs on a good run of form, expecting to win every game. If we go on a good run between now and the end of the regular season (and bear in mind that would required getting some sort of result against Leicester, Ipswich and Leeds, all away), who knows what might happen, we might get back to 2nd. 2

You can't 'avoid injuries' they happen when they happen. Keeping players fresh is part of season long squad management, we've been doing it all season with midweek games. Avoiding suspensions will only really come into play on the last game, if someone is on 9 yellows and we're mathematically out of the automatic race. Decent form, so like I said just keep trying to win every game. 1

If Russell drops/rotates out our best players so they "avoid injuries" and "remain fresh" what happens then? If the second string perform brilliantly, why would you drop them? If the second string are terrible, how do you go into the play offs on a decent run of form?
S-Clarke Posted 25 February, 2024 Posted 25 February, 2024 Yeah, this is a bit of a nonsense approach. The only way you concentrate for the the playoffs is to win, go in with momentum - that's it. If we know auto is 100% gone and and we're safe in 3rd/4th by the last two weeks of the season, then maybe look at potentially rotating a few around so we have our best available for the playoffs. But for now, we just have to keep winning although we've forgotten how to. Football is a strange game. 36 points to play for, a very, very, very tough run-in for us in comparison with the rest for sure, but if we aspire to be a PL side we shouldn't be scared of anyone we face at this level. 2
The Kraken Posted 25 February, 2024 Posted 25 February, 2024 Disappointed. When I saw the thread title I assumed it was an Alpine Saint inspired parody thread. Turns out the OP was being serious. ☹️

tdmickey3 Posted 26 February, 2024 Posted 26 February, 2024 Need to win playoffs if only to avoid the dirty skates, imagine losing to them next season 🤮
