It’s going to be ‘must win’ just about every game if we’re to have any hope of top 2. Put the pressure on and hope that the others have some shockers as we have.

Millwall have 1 point from their last 7 games, scored 3, conceded 15. Must fucking win.

This needs to be an emphatic win…it certainly should be, but something tells me a wheel has come off somewhere. Can’t see Manning being replaced, so if their RW forwards are half decent they’ll suss out that we’re weak down that side and capitalise. If Russ is really on his game and gets the starting selection right, we’ll win but it’ll be tough against another load of cloggers.

1-0 Saints. COYR!

Personally I think we had a pretty settled squad and team that we did not need to bring in the loan players in January. We had enough problems keeping everyone happy as it was. I think we have muddied the water a little and it has been our downfall. On the flip side to this if there are injury’s on the run in we will be glad for the bigger squad. I just feel that sometimes you just do not need to do anything and carry on as you are.

Difficult to disagree with this, although there is an interim position in that you bring in the loan players in the expectation that the run in will need extra decent players waiting to go. Problem is how to manage (a) getting players match fit and up to speed with the system and (b) actually being able to attract the right level of player in the first place, knowing that they’ll be bench warming until they’re needed. Plus there’s the decent academy players not getting a look in.  Personally I don’t have a problem with that scenario - our established first team should have first nod if they’re performing well, which as you say, they were in early January.

Any news on KWP's injury scare from the other night? Looked like a potentially nasty one although he did manage to finish the game. Wondering if we might rest him for this and go with Stephens and manning at LB (i'd rather seem Meghoma). Isn't bree also meant to be approaching fitness?

it's that sort of limp wristed behaviour that lets Millwall take liberties at other clubs without a firm like the DEF.

If you actually knew the real reason why they damaged cars i think you'll find it's because it was the early days of Saints firms reputation rising as Europes most dangerous mob. The Bushwakers, having been destroyed by the DEF at London Bridge a few months before had come for revenge. However word had spread that the DEF were coming round Milton Road onto Hill Lane to head them off as they left Archers Road area. The Bushwakers froze with fear, with roads being shut off and exit routes at a minimum the only option they had in the darkening winter evening was to try to break into cars to try to take cover. Some managed to do this and hide until the DEF disbursed, whilst the others not so lucky sprinted as quickly as they could in the direction of Southampton station in far more dangerous version of Bulldog, some tried to find the nearest police offers for the safety of an escort whilst others tried to blend in with normal fans. It was certainly day Millwall never forgot and of course you'll never hear about this in any films or books as in the rewriting of history Millwall could not allow their reputations to be tarnished. Those that know know.

Pretty sure I remember them trying to light fires in the Archers Road end during a league cup match in the 80's. Was mildy amusing watching it from the Milton. Much more "fun" moment was when myself and a few mates were caught up in a mini riot after watching Saints lose at Upton Park. We thought it would be a good idea to sample some East End hospitaility and found the "world famous" Blind Beggar pub. Not sure where they came from, but a load of Millwall turned up and proceeded to kick the shit out of the West Ham lads that were brave enough to stick around.

remember the FA Cup game when they teamed up with Pompey to have a go at us. Two of the self titled top 5 mobs in England joining forces to take on the DEF and they ended up being chased all the way down to St Denys. You wont find that in their works of fiction.

I think for me as much as we need a win we need goals and lots of them. We need to firm up defence too and bazunu needs to drop 50% of the risk play. Baz, kwp,Harwood,many,meghoma,stu,downes/Charles,aribo,Start sulemana change for armstrong 2nd half if not working, Brooks, frazer.

I feel sulemana needs to start a game a not be thrown In there's a reason he has a price tag. Let's capitalise on it.

We'll win this as long as Martin plays the strongest team but am I confident we'll go on another unbeaten run? Not particularly but we need to keep fighting for every point. Could be some tough boys up for a fight though...

KWP, THB, Bednarek, Manning

Downes, S Armstrong, Aribo

Brooks, A Armstrong, Fraser

Have said all season our target is two points per game, which over last decade guarantees promotion.  13 games to go, lots of twists and turns to come.  We remain on track, as do three other clubs, but I will personally settle now for 92 points and if some of them are gained in games at Ipswich and Leeds then all the better

Think we should start resting players for the play-offs to be honest. The gap to Leicester and Leeds is insurmountable now.

We are really getting into the silly season now and it's becoming harder by the minute to determine who is being ironic and who is not. I'll give you the wink!😉

So we play with Tigers and Lions in the same week. We've had one mauling so let's hope we aren't in for another...

Nah! 4-0 to Saints, we will put them back in their cage and lock the door.

Very comfortable win with this team:

KWP.      Bednarek    Bellis.      ?

Brooks.           S Armstrong.       Fraser

This has to be the starting lineup every week.  Bree at LB, but if he’s out then I would rather play my Nan than Manning.

Play this side and we’ll fucking destroy everyone in our way.  Come on Russell, stop fucking around and saying you love the players and start to get a fucking tune out of them.

RM: "Flynn has trained for a couple of days now but we'll need to assess him to see if he's ready to be involved tomorrow or if we feel we need to keep him back until the Liverpool game" (paraphrased)

Reading between the lines, bench at best for Downes I reckon

That's fuckin stupid. Let's play him in a game we have no hope of winning, yet we don't play our best starting eleven in a must win Championship game.

Maybe he’s not fully fit. Why risk him, to then relapse and be out for rest of the season.

Maybe I didn't word my paraphrasing very well.... Russ didn't say or imply that the Liverpool game was more important, I just think it happens to be the next game in line and if they don't think he's 100% ready for tomorrow then it'll naturally be the Liverpool game that he'll be ready for.

Far enough, but just don't see the point in him playing in that game either. Absolute non entity of a game, even worse due to the fact that its played midweek.

Russ didn't say he would definitely play versus Liverpool, just that that might be the first game that he *could* be avialble to play in if he's not 100% for tomorrow

Russell's actual words on Downes....

https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/news/article/martin-to-exercise-caution-with-downes

Martin to exercise caution with Downes

Southampton manager Russell Martin has issued a positive update on the fitness of Flynn Downes, but reiterated he will need time ahead of his return to the side.

Downes has missed the last three games having been substituted on 33 minutes during the 5-3 win over Huddersfield at the start of February.

This week saw a return to the grass for the midfielder, but the manager will refer to his medical staff before determining how ready his player is.

"Flynn has trained for a couple of days, said Martin, "we just have to assess how he has reacted from today. We'll have a meeting with the medical staff, like we do every week. Then we’ll make a decision.

"Whether he starts, whether he’s on the bench, whether we wait until Liverpool to give him more time. If he’s ready to start, brilliant, if he’s ready for the bench, brilliant, if he’s not we'll give him more time."

Elsewhere with James Bree continuing his recovery with consistent training sessions the only long term absentees remain Juan Larios and Ross Stewart.

I’ve learnt not to believe an utterance of what Martin says.
And very rarely anything that comes from the Comms team at Southampton FC. Barring of course the normal run of the mill stuff.
It’s just like politics, spin and more spin.
