Does seem slightly curious that they've decided to tweet about the anniversary of an ex-player joining us. Can't remember them ever doing that before, so why now...?

I'm sure they've done it before.

Where is this being mentioned that an ex midfielder is coming back?

From these @LeG posts last week I assume?

It turns out that Adam Lallana might not be the only ex saints midfielder returning to the club. This one makes a lot of sense to me. Just an enquiry at this stage though.

I mean this one pretty much gives it away, unless he's being a complete shit stirrer 😂

Why would we even be contemplating bring the Ox or Harrison back - waste of money that should be used on bringing 3 starters in Downes, AM & CF.

Ox is a proven Premier League standard player.

At least that has been confirmed now. Good luck to Caleta-Car.

I'll always remember him for the Grimsby home performance

When he's not in the physios room: which has been most of his career.

Sport Republic's transfer philosophy seems to be a 180 (and just as extreme) from when they came in.  Signing older, over the hill players - a few years ago they would have been great but the likes of Ings, Ox, Reed, Lallana are all well past their 'best before' date.

Guess we'll see how it all pans out.

Sorry, but Ox WAS a proven PL standard player. These are the stats taken from the PL web site.  That is 39 games in the past 4 seasons and 4 goals in that time. Superb player but, unfortunately,  has been plagued with injuries.

Have there been any links to DM/CM players in addition to Downes (other than speculating that Reed might be the ex-player alluded to?) Even with Downes in the side, our midfield gets walked through in the PL unless we sign someone with strength and bite to play alongside him.

no Bella-Kotchap or TP. Lets hope it's because they're on the move. DCC already gone hasn't he?

As revealed earlier today by the CoT

We’ve only signed Lalana

Who starts when Downes (if he comes) doesn't? Who starts alongside him?

Reed would be ideal. Proven at this level.

Jack Cork is on a free. He would be a good experienced back up to Downes , even if he only plays 15 minutes at the end of games, and covers injuries and suspensions.

He would have been 4 or so years ago, not now.

Reed makes sense, I can understand that one. Jack Cork is a signing an ambitious L1 side would make for a season, not a Prem side serious about being competitive.

Buy Sara from Norwich. Better player than Reed IMO.

I cant believe Wilfred Ndidi is without a club

We should definitely be interested in signing Ndidi on a free. Would strengthen our CM after Downes ofcourse.

I reckon he'll re sign for Leicester, he's squeezing them for more dollar - they'll be desperate after Dewsbury - Hall went.

Linked with Everton, so he might be waiting to see if Onana moves

nice looks right up my street.

Sounds about as gory as Wolf Creek.

Doesn’t need to be that gory. The real horror is the banality of the violence and the setting of a decaying town in Derbyshire.
Watch it. You know I’m always right 🤔

That’s as maybe I’m just not convinced because of the who starts bits - there must be better options out there. Has he been linked other than on here?

Yep, Downes and Reed as a combo works for me. Play both when we need to play a more defensive line up but play Downes with Reed as stand-by when we want to play more offensive
