one slight change.

Where can I get a proper list of who has joined and who has left? Not the hopes or rumours but the reality.

I think people make too much of whether a player wants to be at a club. I don't want him to sign a new contract because he isn't very good. But if we signed a player who scored 25 goals this season and kept us up and then admitted he's only here because he had no other offers, would anyone actually care? His goals don't mean less.

Lots of people don't want to be at their jobs but do well anyway.

No don’t agree entirely - there’s only one way you can possibly predict if a ‘mature’ player will perform to expected or better levels and that’s to review historic data. In Che’s case he’s hardly set the World alight both in the Prem or indeed last year in the Championship. Thats all you need to know he’s not worth a new contract, but his obstinate behaviour in signing a new contract with Saints makes it a nailed on NO for me.

It turns out that Adam Lallana might not be the only ex saints midfielder returning to the club. This one makes a lot of sense to me. Just an enquiry at this stage though.

Hope it's not ox. Hojbjerg maybe?

Prime Vic Wanyama next to Downes would be the stuff of dreams.

Sadly after 3 seasons with his feet up in the MLS I suspect he is even further past he prime than he was when spurs ditched him!  Another who’s bank balance did better from leaving saints than his career did!

Celtic were a great feeder club for us back then got a couple of gems!

Please be Elyonoussi. We’ll have less possession and need his world class off-the-ball skills.

Alternatively, a cheeky loan enquiry for Lavia?

'SFC are in advanced talks with Burnley to bring back Nathan Redmond.

Redmond will replace Sulemana who is being moved on - a club in France has put in a bid for him. Club see Redmond as good value as part of the transfer profile strategy that they are employing this summer - experienced voice in the dressing room to help the younger players, still well-respected by the coaching staff and in the last year of his contract at his current club.

Discussing 2 year contract. £2m fee, wages around £45-£50k per week. Talks well-advanced. Both clubs keen, just need player to agree personal terms. Hoping to have it concluded in time for player to take part in pre-season from 18th July.'

Looks like this was bang on the money about Redmond being on his way back - click that link above and scroll down, they literally called out 4th July (ie today) as a key date.

I for one will be pleased to have him back. Good experience, low fee and a good lad to have around the place.

Welcome home, Nathan!

Schneiderlin is a free agent, I hope it's not AOC.

Would welcome Reed back, he fell out of favour at Fulham in the last quarter of last season. He did sign a new contract though and Palhinha is off to Bayern

Shane he's about 40.

Just turned 33 actually, so gives Lallana a few years. Would prefer Morgan if we were going back down that route.

"33".

Who was that 40 year old 'teenager' at one of the Italian clubs a few years back?

Well if we're talking ex midfielders that can cut it in the prem...

Downes - obvious, so not sure you'd be counting him
Schneiderlin - loved him but wouldn't have thought so
Hojbjerg - Spurs want rid and have for a while
JWP - Never wanted to go to West Ham, and long way from home
Tadic - does he count as a mid?
Harry Reed - Logical choice - decent solid prem level midfielder at a good age
Romeu?
Redmond?
Chamberlain
Lavia - Loan?
Stu Armstrong re-signing?

Struggling for names after that tbh...

Please No! Couldn't get in a struggling Burnley side last season and he was dire for us in his last two seasons. This would be a ridiculous (if true) signing.

Lavia on loan or JWP are the exciting options. Reed I'd take as a depth option, Charles won't cut it.

Anything else, apart from maybe Hojbjerg I'd be out on. However his wage demands would be silly for us.

Wasn't this made up and put on here earlier by someone waiting to see when the press would pick it up?

Would make the most sense, positionally - we need another even if we get Downes, IMO.

Wow, a Downes and Romeu midfield partnership would awesome. Redmond, not so much!

Lavia on loan isn't as far fetched as it could be. The guy hasn't played for a year really, they've just signed another CM (and are trying to sign another, go figure), so his game time will be limited. After such a long lay off he will need games to build himself up again, we'd be a pretty ideal place for that to happen you have to say. Familiar surroundings, guaranteed game time, he's known around the place etc. He seemed a well grounded kid.

JWP feels a little far fetched to me due to the wages. I can't see WHU letting us have both Downes and JWP and I'm not sure we could afford that either.

We used to get absolutely ripped when Downes was out in the the EFL - imagine the carnage if he ate raw chicken liver and missed games in the Prem.

Lavia probably won't play for another year, we don't need another injury prone sick note specialist

Wouldn’t be saying yes to Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Hojbjerg, Tadic, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Reed for a whole host of reasons.

Redmond I would never say no to, was a good senior pro when he was here.

I don’t see us signing another ex-Saint though, we’ve filled the quota for this season in Lallana. 😂

Romeu is a lovely bloke but he's also a midfielder whose biggest issue was passing the ball and ended up getting replaced by an 18 year old who'd never played professionally due to it.

I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if it was him. I could definitely see it being Reed though as RM seems to only like British players. 14/14 signings so far.

His issue with passing was so bad, he ended up at Barcelona

Because he suited the slower style of football in Spain at Girona.

There's no need to rewrite history. It's why he was deemed surplus here.

Anyone thinking Romeu could still cut it in the Premiership think again!

It was a huge mistake Barca signing him and the manager admitted as much. I absolutely loved watching Romeu in the Barca shirt after having seen him in our Saints team for so many wonderful years.....however it was painfully clear time had caught up with him. The Spanish league is no where near as fast and brutal as the Premiership and Romeu has struggled in the last season. After initially being a starter he quickly found his playing time limited.

Hojbjerg I would take back, he can still cut it

JWP in a heart beat yes

Reid, real grafter, i can see why he might be considered

Redmond......please NO!

Not so sure he was deemed surplus - my understanding was that he wanted to go back home, Semmens refused but Romeu went to SR and they agreed (have a feeling the deals for Edozie and Larios were linked to him going to Girona).  In any case, he ain't coming back now.
