I notice people saying that we've had this long run, but we've not played anyone decent etc etc.

During this run...

Southampton 3 - 1 Leeds United

Southampton 2 - 1 - WBA

Coventry 1 - 1 Southampton

Hull City 1 - 2 Southampton

Norwich 1 - 1 Southampton

Watford 1 - 1 Southampton

Millwall 0 - 1 Southampton

I'd say the above are a pretty tricky bunch of games in any season, and they've all been part of the run. Not sure why some neutrals are trying to down play it by saying we have a tough run coming up. That tough run includes Millwall, Bristol City, WBA, Hull - we have already beaten all 4.

Expand

Think you could add Huddersfield to that list after the way they played today. Leeds have to go to their place which could be tougher than they think.

Same. WTF is wrong with some people. Everyone could see we were half a yard off it in the first half. But the answer is to support the team, not to tell lads who’ve put together a 25 game undefeated run that they’re shocking or shite. Grow a pair.

Bloke behind me every few mins or so would shout THIS IS SHIT SAINTS. SORT IT OUT MARTIN.

He wasnt completely wrong as we were poor to be fair, midfield was all over the place and we were giving the ball away so easily , but some fans couldn't wait to get on their backs.

Thought the panto season was over! Very sad indeed. 24 unbeaten at the time, what will happen when we lose, on the pitch demanding the board to quit?

Makes you wonder what will happen when we finally lose a match. Calls for Martin to be sacked? It is truly bizarre after the run we have been on. How anyone thinks that slagging your team off lifts morale is deluded. Nothing wrong with constructive criticism, which you would imagine Martin gave them at half time (as opposed to the “metaphorical booing” as suggested by a poster earlier). It is the sign of a good side when they pick up three points after a less than stellar performance. This is a team worth getting behind and that doesn’t mean booing when they go in two down at half time.

As for the goals. I thought the first one took a bit of a deflection. He had no chance with the second and it is very harsh to expect him to save the third.

While the five-goal-blitz, goal of the season and the era-defining astonishing comeback were okay, I'd like to moan about a poor first half.

And I hope their keeper and outfield players have all recovered, they appeared to suffer three or four career-ending injuries during the periods that their side led the game, thankfully they all seemed to recover enough to take goal kicks and throw-ins a bit quicker towards the end.

Just watching the goals. Are we seriously blaming Bazunu for that first one?! Never known a player hated by a fanbase quite like this. Still got two more to go. No doubt he'll be responsible for both of those too.

I don’t think the forum is a collective voice but, yes, a good number of people definitely seem to think that he could have done better with the first one.

The year is 2027. Saints have just achieved a midtable finish with the 3rd lowest goals conceded in the PL. Bazunu has won golden glove which included 3 league penalty saves and 2 in a shoot out. Brighton who have just qualified for the CL for the 2nd season in a row come in for him............

That's the first thing you have to say about this crazy, magical game today.    Huddersfield were excellent for all of the first half and a good portion of the second.   Only WBA earlier this season have impressed me as much   They pressed, ran at our defence and were well organised - how can they be so close to the relegation zone?   We were totally eclipsed in midfield  even before Downes went off and barely threatened their goal (first half) with Adams and AA virtual spectators.   It didn't help that Stu A. was having an off day which left KWP and to a lesser degree Fraser to be the only attacking outlets.

When the Rothwell worldie went in - reminded me of the Romeu volley a few years back - closely followed by the sublime Brook's assist for JR's brace, it looked like capitulation time, yet that didn't happen until much later in the game.      Martin's subs were crucial to the turnaround.  Rothwell of course as the enforced change.    Brooks provided guile, width and combination with KWP that AA just doesn't have - he's much better suited to a more central, inside-right role.    Brooks is much more than a winger, he has the attacking-mid, SA style of game in his locker.      The pace and run of Edozie and Sulemana were immediate threats, and Mara's energy, strength and confidence all became too much for a (finally) deflated opposition.   You can see Mara getting more game time now, his confidence levels are high.

Rothwell's man-of-match well merited, but KWP played a mighty 113 minutes; almost a lone hand in the first half and was a big part of the turnaround.

Thanks to The Cat for posting utube highlights 🙂

As for the first goal Baz had moved across then straightened his stance  which changed his momentum so slight delay in diving. Not sure that qualifies as a bloomer !

I think we got Huddersfield at the perfect time for them to play very well and it to be very tricky for us. A big win at home against rivals, a caretaker who knows the club, and one who has instilled a go for it attitude likely freeing previously nervous players.

I'm sure we all agree the win was amazing in terms of the comeback. But it may have been a decent win without all the craziness.

We weren’t great first half, but have to give credit to Huddersfield who were at it from the word go.

Particular mention to their number 14 (Thomas) who was everywhere and causing us real problems (didn’t he score one and make another?).

The game was over for me when they out him right back!

Things is, it’s not only on here is it.
Every fan base and forum across the country is full of “fickle as fuck” football fans and we are no different.
They’re also full of fans, like you and Bad Wolf that seem to be either oblivious to this or just want the opportunity o knock your own fans, for whatever reason there is.
Baz could have done better for the first one, in my opinion, sorry if that upsets you and clearly makes me the biggest fuck going, but he could have got to that. Not that I would say it was a fuck up like Watford, just he could have done better.

What a brilliant game of football. Huddersfield were excellent first half. They continually pressed, attacked, and gave our defence a bad case of the heebie jeebies. However that came at a price for them. In the 2nd half they couldn't sustain it and were overpowered.

A timely warning that this is what Saints can expect in the Prem, and those athletic machines can sustain it all game.

Fabulous fightback. I wondered what on earth Martin was doing putting 3 wingers on the pitch but it worked.

First time I've seen Brookes, he really is a class above. Not a chance Bournmouth will sell him.

Mara is on fire now, hope starts against Bristol.

Great atmosphere as well, the stadium was rocking.

No 1 priority for Martin now is to stiffen that midfield. With Downes likely to be out for a while, he needs to make some adjustments.

Well, after scoring...for a bit. But yeah it was what you like to see and hear inside a football stadium. And the Northam was far better yesterday helped by the fact we had fans in the two blocks sent back by the visitors who were more keen to get involved than what's happened before - other than the first few rows who were made to sit by stewards, everyone stood. It also helped being a lot closer to the Itchen North so there was a bit more joined up chanting.

Weirdly just under 30,000, when I looked on Friday there were less than a dozen single seats available scattered around the family stand and was complete sellout by Saturday morning, you couldn't buy a ticket. Capacity of St Mary's is around 32,000 with a usable 31,500 due to segregation netting, they only had a small section that wasn't full but even knocking off a bit of corporate (which is included in the capacity) I can't see how there were 1,500 empty seats yesterday.

Leicester, West Brom and Huddersfield, 3 best sides at SMS this season.

I get the feeling that our replacement for a Downes-less midfield will be to just score more.

We have attacking options all over the squad now, but without Downes we will cede more control, and probably see fewer clean sheets than we've been used to. So we need to use what we have going forward.

Hopefully Charles can take his chance but we all know he's not as good as Flynn. No one is in this division.

Not sure if this is a sarcasm or not but either way I'm absolutely gutted there isn't an option to buy Brooks at season end. It's 3 assists in not even 2 games. He's an actual touch of class and an effortless footballer.

Let's also be clear, until he invoked his inner Zidane, Rothwell HAD been anonymous. He certainly turned that around in style but until that point I wasn't quite sure what position he was bought in to play.

I'm not sure why Baz is getting such a hard time, the first and second goals were symptomatic of the crap way we were playing - defenders/midfielders letting them shoot - the first was non existent marking on a runner, the second was cowardliness from KWP and Smallbone who both failed to close the guy down. The third was just a flukey deflection.

Goalkeepers will concede goals - yes Baz may have done better for the first one but the rhetoric that every goal we conceded is somehow all his fault is utter nonsense.
