Holmes_and_Watson
Somewhere in the 15mins I missed, the game changed. Subs, or VA changing shape, happy with the lead and looking to counter, instead inviting pressure? Even then, they had chances to extend the lead. It's not one I'd put at the ref's door. VA tried to shut the game down and failed. Years ago, Saints were trying to kill the game off in the corner. 30 seconds later we were picking it out of our own net. A slightly less poor example of that happened here.
ChristopheVAFC
The day after the match, and after a few hours' sleep, here are my thoughts on yesterday's game: The first half was incredible, we were 2-0 up after 10 minutes and at half-time we went into the dressing room with a 3-0 lead. In the stands, we were feeling confident and, like the players, I thought we were going to win the game, but we didn't count on a number of things that happened in the 2nd half: - Our players slackened off and didn't play with the same intensity as in the 1st half. - Refereeing - let's face it - not in our favour (on 2 of Concarneau's 3 goals, we had a player on the ground). - 7 minutes of extra time, but the referee blew his whistle for the equaliser at 90+9... Most of us felt that it was a draw that tasted like defeat. I think that yesterday's game will be a good lesson for the club and our players, so that they can tell themselves that nothing is decided or won in advance in this championship. We're still unbeaten in the league and in 3rd place with 1 game in hand. There will be better games and we hope we can do better very soon. Allez VA!

I felt a little bad posting right after it, as I think it's fair to allow a little cool down time. So, me going right in and being a bit critical of VA wasn't the kindest. On your points, VA made a habit of not just having players fall over, but stay there like there was a medical emergency, when clearly they were at it. The added on time was directly the result of VA taking ages with subs, delays from some hard tackles and their own time wasting. Silly pen to give away. Should have been a win, but that choice to change the intensity to slow the game down, just allowed the visitors to get into it. A few spells of some higher tempo control would have put an end to that. Even so, VA had enough decent chances to put the game to rest in the second half. Far from a disaster. Some game management lessons learned.

According to our information, the management of Versailles have decided to stay at the Jean-Bouin stadium. This is a sign that the club's ambitions and resources have not diminished, despite the change of president during the off-season. The club paid around €80,000 per match (all inclusive) to rent the Jean-Bouin stadium last season. Thanks to the arrival of its new chairman and majority shareholder, Alexandre Mulliez, grandson of the founder of the Auchan group and former vice-chairman of Auchan Retail France, FC Versailles has been able to successfully pass the scrutiny of the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG), even though the risk of filing for bankruptcy could not have been ruled out a month and a half ago. Auchan Calais was always on our 'booze-runs' a few years ago - used to have a small bar just inside the supermarket entrance if I remember correctly (was probable 20 years back!). I think the Jean-Bouin stadium has a capacity around 20,000, what sort of attendances do FC Versailles get there? I imagine a lot of empty seats. Not a good run of games at the moment, but we're still unbeaten in the league and we're 4th today. If we win the replay at Orléans on Wednesday following the refreshment stall fire, you'll go top of the table. (Let's hope we don't concede another penalty!). We're still a little frustrated, though, because these are points we've lost foolishly and we'll have to do better if we hope to climb back into Ligue 2 at the end of the season. Convict Colony
Poha is a big guy, perfect for a centre back i take it back at the moment its all oreleans with balls into the box, no real outlet for VA, they are looking to break, guy on the left wing is fast. Have to say as well the VA defenders are passing the ball back to the keeper super fast I am just waiting for a mistake, which in his 6 yard box area could be a problem, he's dealt with it all well so far though. 1-0 orleans, va couldnt clear the box. Ok I am off, hopefully that starts the fight back as not been too good so far. Edited October 9 by Convict Colony

ChristopheVAFC
Hello folks. Some news from my team. After the heavy 4-1 defeat at Orléans, VAFC played last Sunday in the French Cup against Compiègne (6ᵉ division), a quiet 3-0 victory. We also lost our number 1 goalkeeper, Jean Louchet, to injury following a shock against Versailles. Unfortunately, our goalkeeper tore his anterior cruciate ligaments (he will be out of action for around 6 months). The club has recruited a new, experienced goalkeeper in Mathieu Michel, who will play his first official match this evening against Sochaux. https://www.transfermarkt.fr/mathieu-michel/profil/spieler/193142 So tonight, Valenciennes travel to Sochaux as part of the 9ᵉ journey . We hope to get back to winning ways, but it won't be easy. Here is the YouTube link for the match: Have a good day. Allez VA !

Tommy Mulgrew
VAFC lost 2:0. Took off 2 defenders and brought on 2 midfielders in 88th minute when 1:0 down to a 29th minute goal and, very Saintsily conceded a goal at 90+4 to lose 2:0. No doubt Christophe will explain how the game went.
ChristopheVAFC
The day after the match, and a second league defeat this season. We have regrets, because we have the potential to do much better. It's been a bit of a complicated period and I'd say there are 2 reasons for that: We don't have defensive stability because we've lost our experienced defender Bakaye Dibassy to injury until January 2025. In attack, we're relying too much on our top scorer Mathias Oyewusi and the other strikers aren't scoring either... The situation is still far from critical, as we are still well placed in the table, but we will have to react very quickly if we are not to be left behind in the league. As for the fans, they are gradually becoming annoyed and impatient, and they hope that answers will soon be found.

This season's recruitment has been much more coherent, with experienced players who have gone up in the league. He wanted players with a good mentality, with exemplary character and who were serious about their work. He recently celebrated 2 years as our sporting director.
