Hello friends, once again we've been through all the emotions in the Coupe de France!

We were leading 2-1 at 90 minutes +6, but Thionville equalised at 2-2 just before the final whistle at 90+7!

A penalty was awarded and VA won 5-4.

Around 80 Valenciennes supporters made the trip.

There's a lot of work to be done, but we hope things will be better by 2025.

Allez VA!

The story of the Göztepe Legendary Bus, the symbol of championships and cups, is with you with the distinction of Göztepe TV.

Here is the curious story of the Göztepe Legendary Bus… July 15, 1997… When a serial killer named Andrew Cunanan killed the famous fashion designer Gianni Versace with two bullets in his head in Miami, USA, the whole world was in shock…
Televisions and radios were reporting the incident as the first news…
We were also driving north from London on the English Autobahn towards a bus depot in the Yorkshire region… Around 14:30 in the afternoon, we heard on the radio that Versace had been killed. It seemed like an ordinary event to us, but we would learn years later that it would help us remember this event and history… Because the reason we went to Yorkshire from the Yeni Asir London office that day was the double-decker English bus that Göztepe still uses today… Yes, the chairman of that time, Aydın Bilgin, wanted us to buy a bus to take the Göztepe footballers to the stadium… First, we looked in London and the surrounding area, but we could not find the desired bus… The garages in London said that there was a high demand for these buses, and especially antique enthusiasts bought these buses for various purposes and took them all over the world… “Where can we find them?” When we said that, they told us to look north… It would take us a day to go north and back, and the newspaper work in the office would be disrupted… We started looking for a bus by calling the ads… Its engine had to be good and it had to be in good condition to go on the road… It had to be able to go at least as far as Turkey… After a week of searching, we found the bus in a garage in Yorkshire where old municipal buses that had been taken out of service were collected. The fact that it was affordable, its engine was in good condition and it was still registered made our job easier… We would just go and take the bus for a spin and if we liked it, we would pay for it and ship it from the Southampton port… So we set off on that July 15th. After a 4-hour journey, our bus was waiting for us, washed and cleaned, from the garage… Its color was not red like the usual London buses, but dark green…

So, to tell you the story behind this banner, it's from a Valenciennes supporter who's aiming to hit the ‘grand slam’ of away games for VA this season (friendly, league, French Cup).

And so far, he hasn't missed a single match since the start of the season, and his banner is displayed on the gates of the visitors' stand at every match.

The bus represents travel and therefore away matches. It looks more like the red London bus, haha.

Oh hi

Good evening Fabrice!

From what I can tell you about Joachim:

- He's one of the players with the greatest potential to develop with us.

- He trained with us at Valenciennes and has always been a good player, diligent both at school and at football.

- He's 18 years old and still has his whole career ahead of him.

- He is captain of the French U19 team

- He has been one of our most-used players since the start of the season (11 games out of 13).

- He's having a bit of trouble this season in the 3rd division because it's a league with a different mentality (aggressiveness, etc.).

I can see him taking his first steps in the 2nd team with you and then, if he establishes himself quickly, making a few first-team appearances.

Has Kayi Sanda signed yet? Not overly promising that he perhaps hasn't been at his best this season, but at 18 years old, it's very young for a centre back and as the French u19 captain he must have something about him!

Great that we are looking to sign young talent. I thought SR had abandoned the policy of spending big on academy/U21 guys after Shields departed.

A little worrying that, although young, he is struggling to play 3rd division football. That said, I am mindful of just how much of a pussy Morgan Schneiderlin was when he first joined us (bottling tackles at Bristol City almost caused me a takotsubo cardiomyopathy), but he obviously developed into one the best players I have ever seen in a Saints midfield. Let's hope this fella follows a similar trajectory. Finding good young CBs is far from easy.

Kayi Sanda:

If KS is anywhere near as good as Morgan Schneiderlin, who played for France for every age group between u16 and u21 inclusive as well as the full national team, I shall be well pleased with this new signing.  Morgan came from Strasbourg, a step up from VAFC, for about £1million IIRC so I suppose £5m is OK, even if I suspect it might have been inflated for VAFC’s benefit (internal SR accounting and all that).

As Chez says, we shall have to wait a couple of years to see some benefit from our outlay.

The latest news is that Joachim is no longer at Valenciennes. I went to see him at training last Saturday and he wasn't there.

I think his arrival will be made official this week.

We currently have 2 players on loan:

- Axel CAMBLAN from Stade Brestois 29 (playing in the Champions League this year)

https://www.transfermarkt.fr/axel-camblan/profil/spieler/924800

and

- Ousmane TOURE from Lille OSC (also playing in the Champions League).

https://www.transfermarkt.fr/ousmane-toure/profil/spieler/990732

These are 2 6-month loans.

We are still waiting for a few more players, although our new manager says he wants quality rather than quantity.

I have no doubt that the €5 million will be put to good use here, and it's a very handsome sum indeed.

I hope that both our clubs will enjoy better times in any case.

€5M put to good use ? Pigs will start flying out my butt the time Chorley and SR start making good decisions. No changes from previous owner EZ,we are getting players on short term loans, free transfers or 3rd grade players from obscure leagues.

Hello friends, today is match day for Valenciennes at the Stade du Hainaut.

It's the first league match of the year 2025, with the reception of Paris 13 Atletico.

I'm hoping for a return to winning ways this evening!

Link to watch the match:

Nice day friends!

almost double your biggest ever transfer fee received and one of the top 3 of all time in the French 3rd tier. Should enable you to buy your way up to the 2nd division at least. Used properly should be able to buy a very good set of players for the 2nd division in French football.

Cameras usually make conditions look better than they are, but for most of the second half I had a hard time spotting the ball (and no chance of seeing P13A players) when play was on the far side of the pitch. The pitch didn't look too good but it played a lot better than it looked.

Camblan looks a good addition.

Hello folks.

It's match day for Valenciennes as they travel to Le Mans in the French Cup (the stadium is next to the 24-hour Le Mans circuit, for those who know).

Kick-off 8.45pm French time, broadcast in France on Bein Sport Max 7.

I should have a streaming link for you shortly before kick-off.

In my opinion, if we qualify, I'll be happy of course, but if we're eliminated, we'll be able to focus on the championship.

Seems pretty lucky you get to play le mans given they are only 1 place above you in the table, or is it only smaller teams at this stage of the cup ?

There aren't many small teams left and we're playing against a team from the same league as us.

Here's the table below:
(L1) -> Ligue 1 (1st division)
(L2) -> Ligue 2 (2nd division)
(N) -> National (3rd division)
(N2) -> National 2 (4th division)
(N3) -> National 3 (5th division)

Is that right that Valenciennes only has a population of about 40k but a stadium with a capacity of 25k? What's the potential to fill that with a successful team? I notice you're also relatively close to Lille and Paris so would assume a lot of people would support Lille and PSG in the surrounding areas?

There are around 42,000 inhabitants in Valenciennes, and the Stade du Hainaut has 25,172 seats.

The Valenciennes metropolitan area has a population of around 195,000.

When we were in Ligue 1 between 2011 and 2014, there were around 12,000 for the classic matches and more than 18,000 for the big games like those against Marseille, Lille, Lens, Paris and Lyon.

The record attendance is 23,021 for the PSG reception in 2012.

We actually have 2 clubs playing in Ligue 1 around 1 hour away: Lille LOSC and Racing Club de Lens, which are clubs that attract people and get results, so that's not in our favour.

This year we have a loyal base of around 4,000 people who are always there, but after that we're not the best in France in terms of love of football.

that's interesting seems like you can get some good crowds there relative to the size of the town. I live in a town with a league 2 club which twice the size of Valenciennes but is dominated by a current championship club which most people in the town support. They've struggled to get crowds much over 4,000. I think the average attendance is only about 3k this season. It's great growth considering they were playing 3 leagues lower in front of a 200 people only 20 years ago but certainly dont think they'll be getting crowds anything approaching your level any time soon.

The good thing about us is that there will always be a small group of loyal supporters who will always be there for the club and the team, whatever the championship.

Some supporters who hadn't come for years have come back since the arrival of Sport Republic, and even if some of my compatriots are a little disappointed, I personally remain positive, telling myself that a project takes time to set up and that it's not in 2 years that the first results will pay off.

We always hope to fill the stadium, it's always nice to see people, but in France, without sporting results, you don't attract many people, and at the moment, it's cold, so people prefer to watch the match on television, knowing that the championship is free with Youtube this year.

Agree with Turkish, our Harrogate Town correspondent.
A lot of teams over here would give their eye teeth for such a stadium.
Where did the money come from and how much did it cost?
Our 32,000 stadium cost £32m in 2002, as a comparison.
That was certainly an excellent way to open a new stadium.
I recollect we did buggar all!!

Stade du Hainaut — Wikipédia

"Financing for the Stade du Hainaut totalled €75.9 million. This included a loan of 14 million euros and an equity contribution of 41 million euros from the Valenciennes Métropole urban community. This was supplemented by a €20 million subsidy from the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region."

Bearing in mind that during its construction, the Stade du Hainaut was closed for about 1 year (cancellation of planning permission by local residents who complained about possible nuisance), during the stoppage of the worksite, there was a penalty of €10,000 per day...

I'd put the total cost at 85/90 million euros.
